Exactly,so how HMRC or the goverment differentiated is equally as difficult
IMO the furlough scheme is/ will be getting ripped by many companies and the self employed thats it beyond them to investigate a fraction of them .
Christ they cant get a grip of the multi million businesses that are ripping the shite out of the taxpayer

I run a business and have 5 of my staff furloughed but are out of contract come end of June .I,m unsure if i,ll need the 5 staff beyond that date but just in case I,ll utilise the goverments extension to the furlough scheme. Is that wrong?

Probably not. You do what's right with your businesses best interests at heart surely? It's not a charity you run presumably?

Away back to the hole you came out of!
What we’re doing is clearly legal and completely the right thing to do. Whilst we have cash flow issues, we have enough to pay the players and receive from HMRC before we run out. The furlough scheme is designed to reduce unemployment so don’t try and take a moral high ground, especially given your clubs past.
Now focus on your own club, instead of littering ours with your nonsense - end of.

That doesn't add up though. If it's truly free for all, then there's nothing to be saved by not doing it, if that makes sense. So we're not benefiting and neither are Queens or by the looks of it, Ross County..

The hassle/expense of the admin?
Not having cash to pay the wages before claiming back?

As I said a few pages back though, if it turns out that certain clubs do extend the contracts of players, even though they intend to release them before next season, and certain clubs don’t, that’s bound to build a reputation among players of which club will look after you as a player, and perhaps influence who you will sign for.

There will be hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of people made redundant the day furlough comes to an end. Some have already made clear that it is their intention, such as Rolls Royce, EasyJet and British Airways.

I really can’t see HMRC chasing anyone about it but if our own chairman got that advice from a specialist, you couldn’t blame him if he let everyone go.

It does seem on the face of it though an exceptionally shitty thing to do. Time will tell.

Whatever it is, it's absolutely not cheating tax payers. The scheme isn't there for the benefit of employers, its to make sure the staff aren't denied the opportunity to earn an income from this crisis. Players always get released, but they have never been denied the opportunity of earning as a result of something like this. Dunfermline or any club get zero benefit from this, they would be cheating nobody. How HMRC view it, who knows. But if they see making sure lower league footballers receive a decent income as a punishable offence, that's poor.

However clubs have to make decisions that are in their clubs best interest. Not going to have a go at them for that. This is a difficult situation that will be full of difficult decisions.

Also not confirmed RRFC will go down this route. Clark said he wants to and its our intention, but that it's not confirmed yet.

I'm not sure the JRS is designed for employees who you have no intention of keeping on after the scheme ends either.
Were you not allowed to bring back people back who had recently lost their jobs just to furlough them at the start of the scheme?

Yes but only if there was prospect of their continuing employment beyond the end of the scheme I believe.

Nah we took back some employees who had left for various reasons and definitely had no future with the company but are making sure they aren't in trouble during this whole issue. Govt allows that.

My mistake. I was mixing up an article I read about an employer who refused to Furlough staff previously made redundant on the basis that they had no future employment prospects with actual HMRC guidance.

Giving that he’s had 4 opportunities at that level, I’m going to say no.

The last two times he was at that level he won promotion with Ross County, and got a player of the year award at Dunfermline when we finished fourth.

He's absolutely capable as a championship player, was more of a second striker while he was at us though.

Frustrating that so many of our players are like that, I’d much prefer our best players tried their hand in European leagues rather than the EPL or EFL. Playing and training in Spain, Portugal or Germany would surely improve our players technical ability compared to the game in the British isles. I know it’s not worked out for Ryan Gauld but at least he had the balls to move away from his family and friends and to be fair to him he’s still trying to work his way up the Portuguese leagues rather than come back and sign for Accies or Motherwell.

Moving abroad isn't the best for everyone, but simplistic to say. Andy Robertson moved to Hull and that worked out just fine.

What would you rather have, HMRC ‘not best pleased’ or looking after players and their families?

I'd rather have a club to support.

The Ayr chairman doesn,t see it an issue

Furlough scheme is full of flaws when us the tax payer are paying for millionaires/multi millionaires furloughing their staff

The Ayr chairman is very rich and underwrites (might be the wrong term) their losses, same with the American owner at Dundee.

FFS let it go

I wonder if Kevin Nisbet or Kyle Turner contracts had been ending this month your Chairman would have released ALL out of contract players or the same with Dobbie at Queens. Absolutely no chance - it is just both clubs looking at an easy way of getting rid of the pish they had built up & had no intention of resigning, and getting to blame Covid rather than admit to the recruitment mistakes they had made in the first place. A 6th & 9th place finish proves the players were just not good enough.

We’ll both have a club to support at the end of this.

HMRC aren’t going to victimise clubs all because they’re using the furlough scheme for what it was intended for.

You only have to go onto their site and read it for yourself.

Dunfermline/Qots weren’t advised from someone at HMRC.

Not surprised Dunfermline have been one of the only clubs to have taken this approach though.

Quick question for you. I recall being at a Raith vs Bayern friendly in the late 90’s at Starks Park. Is this right ? I’m 90% sure I didn’t dream it.

Also, what do you mean by your comment about not being surprised at Dunfermline using this option.

You didn't dream it. It was to open the new stands at starks and we won 1-0 iirc.
