The New Raith Rovers Thread

In the last two seasons of utter despair, Easton stood out. He was always doing his thing around the local community and developed a wonderful bond with the young players and fans alike. I certainly don't know if he's management material but he certainly comes across as a man who genuinely cared about the club and could motivate and inspire those around him. I think bringing him back in some capacity in the future would only be a good thing.

A trifle unfair, Court & Bell have both featured regularly for East Fife this term and Lewis McCann has even had 2 outings for the Pars 1st team.

More significantly Sean Mackie has played a few times for Hibs and is in the Scottish U21 squad. Also wotsis name thon ginger centre half we gave away for nothing to Sevco hasn't done too badly for himself either and both were in Eastons young side when McKinnon was manager.

Of our own players Easton also brought through Watson, McKay, Stevenson, Berry, Valentine and Jack all from a very early age and all of  whom saw their careers hit the buffers under Smith who wanted nothing to do with any of it or them.

I wouldn't put them on a pedestal as any sort of footballing gods but there's potential there as McKay showed (again) at Stranraer.

Easton came in at the same time as Locke tbf.

With the youth set up, it's really hard to judge. If players are good enough, then they step up. People shouted for ages for Osei to get a chance, and every game he came on he looked completely lost. Our most successful youth period came under Murray when he put the lads in gradually over time. Vaughan, Callachan, Matthews and Laidlaw all got time, but it was helped that in each season under Murray we generally weren't too close too relegation aside from maybe one season.

We're certainly not going to see many of the youngsters come through if they're not given a fair crack at first team football.  That has certainly been the case over the last couple of years.

We can’t have previous coaches back at the club. That will never work...

Yup I stand corrected on that one, Easton came in July 2016 and Mackie was already away to Hibs by then too.

My bad! I had it in my head that McKinnon brought Easton to the club but when I thought about it  it was Laurie that was Youth dev coach.

I remember going to games and saying that Osie has bags of pace but not a lot else, I preferred Court as he looked the more finished article.

The ginger hair centre half is very little to do with Easton. He played 10 first team games and left not long after he arrived.

Easton was only here for 2 years and in that time did all that could be asked from him. Imagine being the reserve team coach and having to deal with Locke and Smith. Coaching wise he proved he was up to it but the actual development side takes far longer than 2 years.

Just to add something positive to this thread and remind us all that it’s not always been shite being a Rovers fan.

My uncle was a sports photographer for the courier back in the day and used to print me off photos he’d taken from the Rovers games.

I found these ones the other day in my mums attic. They were taken after the game in which we clinched the 1st division title in April ‘93.

I spotted a few familiar faces in the crowd.

Great photos! I’ve still got that scarf, must’ve been about 5yr old then. And my eldest daughter wore it when it was the retro day earlier in the season.

Ok, so I’ve quoted the entire post, I didn’t mean that, and I’ve no idea how to fix it... I’m referring to this one Jim Nic has aloft IMG_4093.thumb.jpg.3c5a00f117f4683817bdeab12bbdba82.jpg

12 points of a difference...8 games left...still got Arbroath to play.

I’m saying nowt.
We've gained 4 points over the last 2 games. It's therefore inevitable that we'll continue with that rate of progress and win the league by 4 points. On this schedule we'll overtake them after the game up there which is the 3rd last of the season.
Dave McKay will be the 2019 version of Marvin Andrews as we keep 8 clean sheets in a row to end the season.

Frustratingly, Arbroath have done exactly what we needed them to do after beating them. They've been largely shite, certainly in comparison to their Q2 form. Just a shame we've been worse.

Good win in the end to see and good to see the back line looking solid.

If Arbroath lose to East Fife next week and we get a wee cheeky win at Forfar (doubt that) and if we beat them later on the season that’s only 6 points behind.

We are due a good run. Arbroath are in their worst form they’ve been all season. Their arses will be flapping.

If next week goes as stated above I’m going to have no choice but to get excited...

I’d be interested to see, if anyone can be arsed working it out, what the table would look like if we’d been able to take advantage when Arbroath were beaten.

We have dropped 5 points over the 2 other times they lost (other than against us)

So we would be 7 points behind if we had won those games. Add to that the defeat to them, the late draw against Forfar and the draw against Dumbarton when Arbroath drew that night and that's another up to about 7 points we could d have gained over them.  All ifs and buts, but these are all since the end of Jan.

Sickener.
