Oddly enough I've been listening to a lot of Hans Zimmer's work the past few days. He has a concert on Netflix just now and it reminded me of how much good work he's done.

I have many film soundtracks saved on my Spotify and would have no qualms with playing it around other people. Film music can be fucking tremendous, I'm not sure why there should be embarrassment about listening to it.

Agreed. Though there are different types of film music - Hedgecutter is probably thinking of the cheesy soundtracks to 1970s porn films. Whatever they sound like.

I just passed an office with somebody listening to the Lord of the Rings score.

Q:  Is listening to film music weird?   i.e. songs that were written for one particular film and not usually heard away from it?   Would you play it around other people or would you keep it as your dirty little secret using Spotify in private mode?

hmmm - i don't think there's a problem with that, some film-scores are purposefully epic and supposed to draw you in - there's an oscar for writing the things, so they're obviously considered to be fairly worthwhile when properly executed; but then i've spent most of this morning looking for a full-length version of the Eurotrash theme to use as a ringtone, so I wdnt necessarily give too much  credence to anything I come out with...

The theme was by Francis Lai, who penned the music to many a Euro 70s/80s erotic movie. Apparently.

The wife used to listen to more film scores than regular music when we first got together, and we get a fair number of soundtrack albums in the shop, so I presume there must be a reasonable number of folk who buy them. For my part, I've taken to putting on John Carpenter or Goblin scores when I'm doing paperwork, to remind me of things I'd rather be doing.

As far as porn soundtracks go...DEEP THROAT! DEEPER THAN DEEP IN YOUR THROAT! DEEP THROAT, THAT'S ALL SHE WROTE!

Now, calm down boy. Your wife is a whore. At least you don't have to pay on a hourly rate. You pay on a life. Enjoy. I wish my wife had hobby....

Eurotrash - Full (1).mp3

Cracking tune, especially the opening bit that you never normally hear.

fucking great - well done that man !

gut-wrenching decision now whether or not to change it for the current default ringtone which is the Dangerman theme that Mark & Lard used as the intro on their 9:00pm Radio 1 show back in the 90's; might have to keep that and use Eurotrash for Mrs H - it'll mean that every call from her will be bittersweet - cracking tune followed by the inevitable bollocking for something or other - hmmmm...

I know there’s a music forum but this is a catchy, nasty wee tune work/drive to (from The Long Good Friday). The GN link being that the composer is called Monkman. Any relation to @MONKMAN?

What do people mean when they say jackanory time? When I google it I get contradictory definitions.
