It happens on the full moon after the equinox. If you're coming into Edinburgh Waverley from the west then get off at Haymarket instead and get a taxi or the airport bus from there. If your train stops at Edinburgh Park or South Gyle then you could get off there but they're not on the bus route and call the taxi in advance because you can't just assume there will be cabs out there.
