Hmm something along these lines maybe. Scottish Water workies left it at my house after fixing a leak in the mains.

Chap I knew lived in an old council flat in the Old Town. He had a cludgie with an old chain pull and the cistern mounted at height on the wall. The model was called "The Niagara". Quite a satisfying flush.

The Council modernised his bathroom and put in a new standard bog. The flush was pathetic in comparison.

Is it acceptable to be invited to a BBQ by another couple and offering to make the salad,?

I don't think so. Feels cheap and cheating somehow, yet the missus' feels its completely normal that someone else provides all the good stuff while we were to bring along a bowl of fucking salad. And half a cake I baked yesterday.

Under the guidelines you’re supposed to take your own food, crockery and cutlery.

I think it is. Take some sides that dont need cooking. You dont turn up to someones house that's invited you for dinner, toss them a steak and here cook that for me. Sides or dessert and drink is a perfectly acceptable contribution for me.

Sticking slabs of marinated meat on the BBQ is a piece of pish. Making a decent salad is an artform.

Unacceptable swinging behaviour. You wait for the hosts to offer.
