He's been needing an operation since something like January or February. Unlikely to play much this season. Would be surprised if we released him but if he gets his operation soon (depending on Covid obvz) I wouldn't be surprised to see him join someone else in January. Hasn't played for a year with injuries and it's confirmed he wont play at all next season it looks like. Makes sense, we'll honour his contract - still has a year left. Might be because Defoe went off injured against Motherwell, there was a bbc story quoting Gerrard saying Defoe being injured could push Sevco into the transfer market for a striker.
