For those of us not in the know, what is the joke? I don't get it.

Maley and Bartley have been taking the piss out of each other all season, earliest I can think of the twitter getting involved was back in January when they had a race and there was a poll for who won (no competitive football then, no competitive football now - seeing a pattern for Twitter polls). Since that every now and then there's something from the official club about one or both of them.

It's really as small as that - I doubt they were expecting last night's effort to take off so much, but it's been good fun anyway.

In any case, I expect by the end of the week we'll have confirmation that he's signed either as a player for another year or in a coaching role. Hopefully along with other news *cough* Lawless *cough*

Player of the season - Lyndon Dykes

Young Player of the season - Matija Sarkic

Goal of the season - Jack Stobbs

Gary Maley was on TalkSport this morning. Worth noting that they said that this was a charity bet, where Martindale would donate £1 to the John O'Byrne foundation ('make a wish' style charity) for each vote placed, if he was kept at the club. Clearly not the case now but he says he will donate two months wages, if he is given a new contract and this will be matched by Martindale.

Going to hit roughly 190k votes and a 3% increase in followers by 6pm today. Overall, a great success for the club.

Actually, Ive changed my mind. A 12 year would know better than to tweet something like that on an official account

There you go grumpy puss, this is the story behind it.

Quote

On Monday, Davie Martindale called Gary and asked if he could come to the stadium to have a look at a drainage issue which we’ve had in the first-team dressing room. Gary came to have a look and whilst in the stadium he and Davie, who are long-term friends having both played in the same team at Junior level (alongside Scott Pittman), began to have a bit of a chat around the fact that Gary was soon to be out of contract.

Gary suggested to Davie that given all that is going and the fact he has a full-time job as it is, he was happy if him being released meant that his wages could be redistributed to the younger goalkeepers at the club to help them through the current period. The chat turned into a bit of changing room banter between the pair with Davie suggesting it would be a bit of light-hearted fun to open it up to the fans via a twitter poll and see if they thought that Gary should say. At this point, assuming there would be 400-500 votes and a bit of good humour amongst the fans and players, Davie would donate £1 to charity for every vote received. In exchange, Gary suggested that if the poll went in his favour, he’d donate two months wage, whilst we still remain without football, to charity too.

So there we had it. 6pm on Monday, a poll would go out on Twitter, a bit of light-hearted banter would ensue between players and fans and at the end of it all, a charity would benefit either way.

Fast forward 4 hours and by 10pm on Monday evening, the poll had already amassed over 100,000 votes, Livingston FC was trending on twitter, press from all over the WORLD were getting in touch to talk about it and Davie Martindale was very quickly recalculating that £1 per vote suggestion!

Subsequently, Davie agreed that he’d donate £1000 to charity given the reaction and Gary has continued to stand by his vow to donate his monthly football wage too.

That brings us to the charity in question – The John O’Byrne Foundation.

The foundation was set-up to support children who spend significant periods of times in hospital battling long-term, and very often, terminal illnesses. The aim of the foundation is to support children and their families with holidays, trips, meeting their heroes and even more simpler things like board games, birthday cakes and such like.

You can find out all the information about the foundation as well as being able to donate to the cause via their JustGiving page on the link below. As you can imagine at a time like this, smaller charities doing good work in the community can really suffer in terms of donations and lack of exposure so if you can help by either spreading the word of the foundation or making a donation, that would be a huge, huge help.

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/barry-hicks

So there you have it, perhaps a football first in terms of the poll but some huge awareness now directed the way of the charity and an overwhelming statement that over 100,000 people want to see Stretch remain in Livi colours!

We appreciate that some may not have initially received the poll in the light-hearted, good humoured way in which it was absolutely intended but it was only ever meant to raise a bit of a smile at time when all other current news is making that hard to do.

Almost 200,000 votes worldwide, excellent response.

Initial reaction was that it was in poor taste and harsh on the player. However, it quickly became apparent this was and is intended as lighthearted and the player was ‘in on it’, as now confirmed. So fair play Livi.
Hearts fans bleating in here should drop down to the championship forum and start to make themselves at home.

Cool story, bro.

Of course, the time to tell that story was when the tweet went out or at least when it started to be questioned.

Dont be fooled into thinking any attention is good attention

Grumpy to the end eh.🤣

The atmosphere around Livi since Ward came in has been fantastic, ex players like Gallagher has said its the best changing room he's been in, even on loan players have said this, everyone at Livi knew this was for a laugh, and told folk like you, that wanted to be Mr damp squib, and now the full story is out and you're still full of indignation, prob because you were shown to be wrong in your poor judgement call, but whatever makes you happy (sic) MrX.👌

Unfortunately, a story days after the event does nothing to change the fact that all of this was inappropriate for an official club social media account.

And if you're going to talk with the big boys, you're going to have to learn what sic means and how to use it. Not using Declan fucking Gallagher as a role model might help too.

You're doing a good job of convincing us that you don't care.

Imagine referring to yourself as 'a big boy' when you can't admit you were wrong.

"The official account keeps telling them it's not [a joke]". That included responses with GIFs of Donald Duck, Sylvester Stallone and Tom from Tom & Jerry.

Super serious, bro.

Morning lads, just dropping in to say I just dropped the kickstarted for a new Scottish football magazine I created with a couple of other fans. Your ex-player Danny Denholm done a feature for us and there's some other cool articles / illustrations in there. Would be great if you could back / share it with as many fans as possible. The link to our kickstarter is:

Honestly looking at those leaving, it's no big deal. Lawless is a tough one but I reckon Forrest will be just as good.

Lamie is average and honestly no loss for us. Erskine is done and Henderson was Knox 2.0

ATS getting a new deal is solid for us, Hamilton should start getting a run in the first team soon. De Vita back as decent cover (he'll be more reliable than Erskine imo). Tiffoney new deal is surprising but he's got the ability to do well for us.

I guess our interest turns to keep everyone else here and getting a GK in and that's us sorted for the next season

Reckon we'll also look to utilise the loan market again @EdinburghLivi - would love to see Sarkic back on loan.

Anyone know if Ciaron Brown is out of contract too?

Either way, get a keeper in and that should be us. Reckon we'll look for the type of free agent that's far better than what we have (like what we've done with Efe).

I have a feeling we'll see a winger or two come in on loan but our squad seems pretty solid already which is promising.

Agree with most of that. Forrest has some really big shoes to fill but I am hopeful he can step up.

De Vita needs a good preseason behind him and a run of games. Not sure what his best position is now.

Glad Tiffoney is getting another chance as he has the ability to tear teams apart with his pace. Needs to work on his end product this year.
