  1. And so, we meet again after encounters in the Premiership and League Cup. Who will prevail in another encounter between the terrors and the stripes? I have a rare Saturday aff so I'll be heading up to Tannadice for this one, hoping for anything but a repeat of the last time we went up there. Both teams are abysmal away from home, but last night gives me a bit of confidence that there might actually be something about us if we stick to the same formation and attitude. All that's required now is a magical striker who happens to be a free agent to actually convert chances...
  2. On this week’s show, there’s another big plot twist in the Championship’s never-ending whodunnit; League One takes a giant leap towards conclusion but pulls out at the last minute; Stenny and City battle over League Two’s final remaining scraps; and Brechin City reflect on a satisfying Highland fling as the pyramid playoffs loom. All this and more, on this week’s edition of the Auchterarder Chippy. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-auchterarder-chippy/id1506219854?i=1000558296959
  3. Didn't see any thread for this so here it is. Hope we win comfortably. we'll probably need Nicky Clark to foul someone again to save us. oh and this is on BBC Scotland at 7:45 kick off... for some reason.
  4. Highland vs Moray in the ultimate Thistle showdown. Lose and we'll produce one of our worst results ever or win to be rewarded with a potential scalping away in Dingwall.
  5. Tough tie to predict a winner. Its a perfect day for football and i am expecting a large crowd to turn up.These are the type of games that get your burrs up. MONTHEBOT
  6. A tie that we should be winning to get through to the next round but there's no telling what Morton side will turn up at the moment. If it's the same rabble that turned out in our last two games then East Fife will probably turn us over here. I'll go for a 3-1 away win and a deeply savoury red pudding supper.
  7. It is with great delight we can confirm would like to announce that the academy are moving pitches to the front of Airdrie Sports Centre. It has been exactly 1 year since we opened negotiations of building our own changing rooms, food area, toilet area and of course the magical sheltered seated area for supporters to enjoy watching the Cairn play. In conjunction with North Lanarkshire Leisure, North Lanarkshire Council & Scottish Football Partnership we are delighted to say that 2019 shall be a year that really does change the dynamics of the full Gartcairn Academy Planning permission has been granted and if you have recently been in to the sports centre you shall see large yellow containers sitting. Tomorrow (14th Jan) marks the day that work begins. See attached diagrams for you all to see what our plans are. Initially the work shall be all about getting changing facilities to the pitchside along with storage. This shall then follow very closely to building out public toilets, a food cube and sheltered seating for 800 people. .We are all extremely excited about this and cannot thank NLL, NLC & the SFP enough for their commitment in aiding us to make this dream become a reality. #MTC #pathway #shelter #pieandbovril #clubhouse
  8. Is it wrong that I want to go to Thistle Weir v Hibs today, just because I think there might be an obscene number of goals? There aren't too many mis-matches in the draw for the 2nd round, and some of them scratched anyway, but this looks like a potential horsing.
  9. Who has had licenses this season that didnt last year?
  10. The cup draws have been fairly kind to us this year, another home one on the cards here. I expect Elgin to make this very difficult for us but we really should be winning. The "game which shall not be named" should give Aitken and his team a big enough incentive to ensure we're not put through that again and I hope for a professional job here. Nobody deserves dropped from the team that beat Raith on Saturday but it would be nice if we could start easing back in some of our injured players (Handling, I'm looking at you). Be great if we can keep up this form and we have the situation where players like Handling and Froxylias need to fight for their place back again, a nice situation to have. Many Elgin fans making the trip down? How has your season been so far?

  12. Who do we all think will win the Scottish Cup this year for the Under 17's. Think this year it is quite open What's everyone's opinion?
  13. Rangers youth team will be playing Celtics youth team in the 2014/15 Scottish Youth Cup final on the 21st of May, does anyone know where, if announced yet this final will be being held? Also will fans be allowed to attend or will it like the Glasgow Cup final be behind closed doors?
  14. I recently went to watch my son play for his School, Lenzie Academy, in an Under 16 Scottish Cup replayed Tie against favourites, Holyrood. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a biased person and if a team are cheated out of something by decisions made, then I would make a comment, even if it was a team I was involved with. My son who is a well know player in the Cumbernauld league as former captain of the successful Rossvale 99 team, decided to give up football to concentrate on his exams at the start of the season. Obviously for me it was a bit of a shock and disappointing but I backed him 100%. Recently he decided to rejoin the school team from last year and his first tie was against Holyrood in the Scottish Cup. The first tie finished 10 minutes early by the referee with Holyrood winning 3.2. So all I know was that the tie was to be replayed I don't know what happened but it sounds confusing. For the replayed tie, I turned up late at the tie. The game was at Toryglen with Holyrood, 2.0 up after half an hour. After 10 minutes of watching the game I was impressed with the referee, with every decision he shouted the reason why Lenzie were fouling. This made every spectator know the reason but the problem then ensued that every time a holyrood played fouled in the same way, the referee waved play on. So there was no mistaking what was going on. Well this continued for the whole of the second half but there were a couple of decisions that he gave to Lenzie which Holyrood should have got and visa versa but the rest of the decisions he was giving them against Lenzie. Well the worst decision of the Match happened when the ball was in the Lenzie area in injury time. The lenzie center/half cleared the ball and every player was in the Lenzie half, with referee on the edge of the Penalty box and as the ball cleared it went over the half way line and the lenzie player, who was a speed merchant, ran and caught the ball, (the boy had ran from 5 yards inside his own area). The referee who could not see the line for players and his height, blew for offside. It was one of the most shocking decisions I have ever witnessed and I believed the whistle was blown purely for the referee to make sure Holyrood went through. Every one of the supporters from the Holyrood section laughed as they knew what the referee had done. Before this incident, during the second half I met the former Under 16 'Jimmy Johnstone coach' and said to him that the referee was a shocker and it was he who then told me that the referee was a Holyrood teacher and part of the team. It is certainly not the case of sour grapes here. People who know me know I aint biased. Even when a decision went for Rossvale and both Manager and coach agreed, I would stand my ground with both of them and tell them it was wrong. About the actual game, it was enjoyable, I personally think Holyrood looked the more composed and technical than Lenzie but as chances went, Lenzie had a few chances at the end that should have either tied or won the tie. Even whoever is beaten, it should be used it as a learning curve to make them feel they don't want to go through that again. But for the boys its sour grapes as it was the referee who won the tie for Holyrood I think in todays age why do the Schools league allow this to happen. I know the referee didn't turn up and there was no reason why that another referee should have been notified to take the game instead of leaving it with the Coaches to decide. What's everyone's thoughts on coaches refereeing ties, especially Scottish Cup ties. Personally I think once it gets to Under 13, a referee should be appointed and emergency contact referee just incase.
  15. Post all 4th round related news, goals & shocks here. Good luck everyone!
  16. Congratulations to St Johnstone on lifting the 2013-14 Scottish Cup... Attention will soon turn to 2014-15's competition, which looks likely to be one of the most interesting in some time, in terms of variety at least. By my reckoning several clubs will be making their debut in the cup and it should have its largest-ever entry since Victorian times? There will be a variety of new entrants. During the course of the season East Kilbride and Gretna 2008 have obtained the licence, and with it membership, and will be entering for the first time. As will Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale from Edinburgh who qualify as champions of the EOS League and are also cup first-timers. Some recent entrants will also be returning. Linlithgow Rose Juniors have obtained their licence and according to their website University of Stirling will qualify courtesy their runners-up position in the Lowland League... presumably the 2 southern byes now being assigned to the LL, not the EOS and SOS champions? If so both they and Spartans, and Brora Rangers and Inverurie Loco Works, will get byes into R2. Qualifiers from the Juniors will be Bo'ness United (East Superleague) unless they are caught by Linlithgow - they're 4pts clear with 3 games to play... Auchinleck Talbot (West Superleague)... Culter (North Superleague)... plus the winner of Glenafton Athletic v Hurlford United (Junior Cup Final), either of whom will be making their debut. Under the current rules licensed clubs are exempt from Preliminary ties. So assuming that stays, and the byes are rearranged as I mooted with the apparet University of Stirling situation, I think that would mean a breakdown of entries as follows: [Note #1 - BSC Glasgow, of the Lowland League, can't enter yet which is why only 13 of the 14 LL clubs are listed]. [Note #2 - claim has been made that Banks o'Dee have got their licence and membership, but I haven't seen this substantiated anywhere. If it is true, they would enter in the First Round under "Juniors", and there would be 8 ties and only 7 byes in the Preliminary Round]. Preliminary Round (7 ties + 9 byes): Highland League (2) - Cove Rangers, Fort William Lowland League (6) - Dalbeattie Star, Edinburgh City, Edinburgh University, Gala Fairydean Rovers, Selkirk, Vale of Leithen Clubs from the Non Professional Game: EOS League (5) - Burntisland Shipyard, Civil Service Strollers, Coldstream, Hawick Royal Albert, Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale SOS League (3) - Newton Stewart, St Cuthbert Wanderers, Wigtown & Bladnoch Juniors (5) - Auchinleck Talbot, Bo'ness United*, Culter, Girvan, Glenafton Athletic/Hurlford United Amateurs (2) - Glasgow University, Golspie Sutherland Competition Proper First Round (18 ties): 16 clubs from the Preliminary Round Highland League (14) - Buckie Thistle, Clachnacuddin, Deveronvale, Formartine United, Forres Mechanics, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Keith, Lossiemouth, Nairn County, Rothes [assuming licence reinstated], Strathspey Thistle, Turriff United, Wick Academy Lowland League (5) - East Kilbride, Gretna 2008, Preston Athletic, Threave Rovers, Whitehill Welfare Club from the Non Professional Game: Juniors (1) - Linlithgow Rose Second Round (16 ties): 18 clubs from the First Round Scottish League Two (10) - Albion Rovers, Annan Athletic, Arbroath, Berwick Rangers, Clyde, East Fife, East Stirlingshire, Elgin City, Montrose, Queen's Park Highland League (2) - Brora Rangers, Inverurie Loco Works Lowland League (2) - Spartans, University of Stirling Third Round (16 ties): 16 clubs from the Second Round Scottish Championship (6) - Alloa Athletic, Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton, Livingston, Raith Rovers, Rangers Scottish League One (10) - Airdrie United, Ayr United, Brechin City, Dunfermline Athletic, Forfar Athletic, Greenock Morton, Peterhead, Stenhousemuir, Stirling Albion, Stranraer Fourth Round (16 ties): 16 clubs from the Third Round Scottish Premiership (12) - Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee United, Hamilton Academical/Hibernian, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren Scottish Championship (4) - Hamilton Academical/Hibernian, Heart of Midlothian, Falkirk, Queen of the South Great to see a number of new faces in the tournament, and with the pyramid going live it will be interesting to see how clubs from the SPFL fare against Highland and Lowland opposition, and how the HL and LL clubs fare against the EOS and SOS clubs (and Juniors!). One other point of note is that, under the new UEFA regulations, the cup runner-up will not qualify for Europe even if they lose to the SPFL Premiership winner. Only the cup winner themselves can now qualify for the Europa League so in the event that someone (i.e. Celtic) were to do the double, the extra slot would go to 4th in the Premiership. Scottish Cup 2013-14 will live long in the memory, from Albion Rovers giantkilling to St Johnstone winning their first major trophy... so bring on 2014-15.
