  1. Forever a legend for unearthing the Gomis-Buaben midfield partnership. He made a few other decent signings too.
  2. A split after 26 games, with 14 more games following the split is just mental even by the standards of our game!
  3. There is a finite number of teams in Scotland - if that's boring, well that's just how it is. When United were relegated, I didn't think, oh great, now we get to play Morton, Alloa and Falkirk.
  4. Kilmarnock is decent, if only for the pies.
  5. I'm happy to be considered mental over wanting McNamara sacked after the fermers debacle. It's meaningless now, but I remember thinking from very early on that we playing amazing fitba despite McNamara's involvement, not because of it. All this boils down to is bad management. Players should have been getting rested (Souttar and Gauld especially) whilst we were winning, one, maybe two at a time. Instead we suffered our worst result of the season, queue wholesale changes, resulting in an even worse defeat, which then was followed by a huge game against Aberdeen where the confidence was gone! Now our players have no confidence, need rested when we need them most, so we're screwed.
  6. As someone said above, there's actually nothing wrong with the current set-up. Unless of course we eventually decide we're fed up with no team other then the Old Firm winning the league and switch to an American-style play-off system.
  7. He should've been sacked after the defeat to St Johnstone near Christmas 2013 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/25482658 It was blindingly obvious he didn't have a clue what he was doing.
  8. In other news, it looks like we're not gonna have a Dundee derby for another wee while. With Hearts almost certainly getting relegated now the Dee will have no chance of winning the league next season.
  9. I guess from this that Kieran Freeman will be getting offered a new deal. Would still expect at least Adam King and Cammy Smith to be allowed to leave.
  10. Agreed. I was lucky enough to be at Fir Park that day. The best United performance I've ever witnessed in the flesh, and I'm no youngster! Shame it couldn't last.
  11. Souttar brings the ball out of defence, Gauld sweeps the ball out wide to Robertson who drives forward and hits a screamer into the bottom corner. I could weep thinking about what might have been if we'd had a manager with half a brain, and a board with the strength to hold that team together for more than one season.
  12. I wouldn't dispute that. Amazed he stuck it out over there so long, playing in front of three men and a dog.
  13. In a team that included Robertson, Armstrong, GMS, Ciftci and Souttar, Ryan Gauld was the clear stand-out player for me. He looks like he's beginning to progress, but I honestly thought he'd have achieved so much more by now.
  14. Barca fans wait to see if there will be a season.
  15. Our signing priorities should be in this order... 1. Centre-back 2. Another centre-back 3. Others
  16. Absolute bonkers! If our owners spend £500k on any player, they need their heads testing. Can anyone even remember the last time we spent a six-figure sum on a player, and it worked out well? ps - I think Johnny Russell is pocketing £27k a week
  17. If you think Smith is good enough (fair enough if you don't) for the top league, then advocating splashing out a large portion of the wage budget on another player in his position when we have other priorities is bonkers imho. I appreciate most fans don't like to think of our wage bill being finite, but it is. It's why I was so irritated when we signed Powers. He was clearly no improvement on Butcher, and now we're stuck with him because we already have to pay King to f**k off.
  18. I don’t think James McPake is the sharpest tool in the box...
  19. The problem with this is that you’ve already identified 8 positions and my argument is, if you sign that many players you naturally have to scale back on quality. Look at our history of player signings over the last few years - it’s horrendous, almost signing a new team each year, that you then have to pay off because they ain’t good enough.
  20. The ‘Why not if there’s one available‘ strategy is great up until the point you’ve spent all your budget and still haven’t signed a centre back. We need to identify the 4/5 positions we need to invest in and go out to get those players. If Neilson decides that RB is a priority position then so be it, but I don’t think it is. CB, CB, CM, LM in that order imho
  21. I can't say I rate Clark that highly, but I'd rather have 11 Nicky Clarks starting than have Brian Graham near the team again.
  22. This kinda worries me. O'Donnell would be a good signing, but surely RB isn't a priority position? If the owners are gonna sign a full starting XI of a similar calibre, then fair enough, but I cannae see it!
