And now Callum Antell has signed too.
-
How is David Ferguson doing for you? I see he doesn't play every week, but started yesterday. He was Berwick's standout player for 2 or 3 years and we'd have him back in a heartbeat.
-
Already looking forward to next season. The squad looked good last season and the start of this, but it already looks better now, and this time it is led by a much better manager.
-
Jamie has been a big - and popular - player for us this season, but has had many cards. His name is pre-printed in referees notebooks, so they just have to tick the appropriate box. Just a sign that he is beginning to reign it in, and I'm hugely chuffed he is staying next season. Scored the first v Cowden today.
-
Jamie McCormack has signed a new contract for us for next season. Hugely important signing for us. Kay, Nelson, McCormack, McKay, Barr, O'Connor, Buchanan, Harris, Laidlaw, is a great core squad to already have signed for next season. Scroll up to see several posts announcing our demise and financial armageddon, just a few short months ago. Regular 400+ crowds are the key. Just ask Edinburgh City. (And East Kilbride in a year or two)
-
You've got enough defenders for the entire League. Can we have David Ferguson back, please?
-
Berwick should have won comfortably yesterday, but Shire worked hard and never gave up, giving their fans a rewarding day out. Some good saves, some glaring misses and some late defensive cock-ups. Learning day for our youngsters (and some of the oldies too)
-
5 wins in a row for Berwick. Rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.... Tam Scobbie turning things around with a reduced budget, several loanees, 'big' players sitting on the bench elsewhere and 3 key players missing yesterday. We'll have further setbacks, but this team is so much better than the dross dished up by Stu Malcolm. Still have nightmares about our gruesome performance at Musselburgh in some crappy cup tie a few months ago. Decent crowd expected against Shire next Saturday.
-
No. He hasn't been in his usual spot on the Ducket (often with his family) for donkeys years. Some years ago, I vaguely remember someone seeing him in (I think) Glasgow. It's a very unclear memory but I think he was OK, but maybe following another sport.
-
Another excellent result for Berwick. 4 wins in a row now. Tam Scobbie has got the team playing in a way that Stu Malcolm wouldn't have dreamed of. Good to see Jordan Sinclair back for his first game in a year, and a penalty save from our young keeper to win the tie for the Gers.
-
It is the case! Buchanan has signed an affordable contract until the end of next season. Well done to Bonnyrigg for pissing him off by keeping him on the bench.
-
More complicated than that. Depends on the agreement in place when Bonnyrigg took him, and the fact that he played as a Trialist today shows that it wasn't just a simple case of Bonnyrigg Rose sending him back. Don't much care to be honest. He's back, is allegedly signing a contract we can afford, and is still fecking brilliant for us.
-
Not entirely sure of the arrangement, but that seems reasonable. Then, when he wasn't getting a game at Bonnyrigg, and he would like to come back to a club that he didn't really want to leave in the first place, financial shenanigans begin. He couldn't come back on the same money as before, so maybe Bonnyrigg are paying a bit of his wages. He actually played as a Trialist today, but the key is whether he signs for us for another season on reduced terms. if I were here him, I'd take a wage cut and enjoy another year playing each week at a club I enjoy - and that loves him - than getting a few extra quid to sit on the bench somewhere else. Hope the same might apply to David Ferguson and Jamie McCormack, too, but of course Graham Taylor has jumped ship to drop down a division. Hey-ho.
-
It's not that bizarre. I appreciate that most players sign for an extra few pence, and Liam left because we couldn't afford him. And then he got a few appearances at Bonnyrigg as sub in the 87th minute. But at his age, would you rather play a full game at a club that means a lot to you, or sit on the bench somewhere till you retire? Hugely glad to have Liam back today. 2 wonderful goals and a series of shite Linesman decisions away from a few more. Money talks, but I hope we can offer him enough to stay at a club that loves him to bits.

That would be good mate. Small gang of us meet up in the Curfew from 1pm before each home match. We come from far and wide - Redcar, Wickham, Glasgow, Edinburgh , Whitley Bay and even Berwick!
-
That's how I started. Been going for 44 years now! Pleased you enjoyed your 2 trips. Both were hard fought and enjoyable to watch. Next time come to The Curfew micropub beforehand and we'll convert you from that fizzy lager pish..... !
-
Aye. I was pissed. Should have been the other way around. Or something like that...
-
Super result against CS today. Lots of youngsters working their socks off, Tam Scobbie making Stu Malcolm look like Brian Clough (EDIT - that's the wrong way around. Sorry Tam), the 100th piss poor referee in a row, and a cracking sunset. 10 men for 25 minutes or so. We'd have lost 2-1 at any time during the last 3 years
-
Berwick didn't 'empty' their squad. Only 3 of the team that played at Brora (in the heavy cup defeat that prompted the financial reappraisal) are no longer at the club - Buchanan, Travis and Ferguson. 1 more - Sneddon - left as well, but has since come back. On top of that, we were already shite and getting regularly beaten even with those 3.
-
Berwick's weakened squad will play week in week out against the rest of the league till the end of the season. The team that will most suffer, will be Berwick. B teams playing weakened teams is entirely a matter of luck as far as the opposition is concerned, and the B teams themselves are wholly unaffected because they don't give a toss about the match result.
-
Great result for Berwick yesterday. A really young side seeing off Tranent for our first win for some time, makes it a happy New Year. Usual shite ref decisions - laughable sending off of Stevenson, that brought our average age down by about 8 years. Several of the team already signed up for next season, and a feel-good atmosphere developing after Months of gloom. Kudos to Tam Scobbie and Kev Dixon.
-
Fabulous game at Berwick yesterday in dreadful conditions. Had all the typical Lowland League stuff - penalties, scraps, a red card, unlikely fightbacks and of course, shite decisions. Ducket side linesman - from Galashiels allegedly - denied a last ditch winner for Berwick, by shoving his flag in the air when all the advice was for it to go up his arse. Video clearly shows Lewis Barr was onside. And the Gala keeper escaping a red card was more ridiculous than Tim Martin's Knighthood. Well done to both teams for a cracking game and for over 400 who turned up and enjoyed a great game of futty.
-
The Boxing Day defeat at Gala was - according to the few Berwick fans who actually went - a new low. A non-existent midfield ahead of an inadequate defence, and no idea how to attack. Lacklustre doesn't get close, embarrassing does. Allegedly. Capitulate to the same opposition at home on Saturday, and crowds will fall away in the New Year. Time for Tam Scobbie to show that he can motivate a team, and for the likes of McCormack, Barr and Nelson to take some responsibility.
-
Statement from the club about Berwick's finances tonight. Sensible stuff about costs not exceeding income as we go forward. Budget for next year will be better than most in the Lowland League, purely because our income streams (crowds, sponsorship, match day hospitality etc) is better than most in the league. Was critical about communication from our Board, so this is welcome clarification from them.

There's nothing about this piss-poor league that doesn't disappoint me.
