  1. Agreed, it didn't affect the result. I'd have given the goal and I'm a Lithgae fan but the discussion was worthwhile to me in trying to understand how offside works these days.
  2. My initial impression was that it should have stood but maybe the interpretation was that Thom wouldn't have had to make to desperate attempt to clear if there wasn't an opponent ready to score if he didn't. I agree with GordonS's reading of the game. The Rose had a massive amount of possession but couldn't break down a well-organised defence and got continually caught on the break. Too many passes to forwards with their backs to the goals. Hit the ball back from the bye-line or play a ball for someone to run onto.
  3. They couldn't get to the Rose players in the second half! I know the opposition wasn't Superleague standard but it's good for the morale of the team.
  4. I hope you're right and we have to put the result in the context of LTHV being a good side but how on Earth did we not break them down when they were down to 9? We were unlucky with shots hitting the post or being cleared off the line but that was when we were playing against 11! There was plenty possession but a lack of flair up front. Crosses were coming in from deep rather than from the bye-line, Tommy seemed off the pace and Kevin Watt seemed to fade out of the game (though I'm still optimistic about him). It seemed to be a situation tailor-made for Roddy to come on to unpick the lock but maybe he was injured. Individually we seem to have decent players but it's just not clicking yet.
  5. Yep. I'm just following up on that. It's strange how certain things in the kitchen become your go-to tools. I have a really sharp knife which my wife would throw out if she was brave enough but it's my must-have. Somehow we have gathered six tin-openers but one of them is the only one I'll use.
  6. Thanks for that. There's some shabby-looking stuff on there but I'm sure I'll get something decent out of it.
  7. Can you still get these? Using the dishwasher has rusted mine to the point of not being able to use it but I'm kinda fond of it and would like another one but I've never seen one in the shops.
  8. A while back, Scotland were playing the Faroes. "Is that in Scotland or Egypt?". I kid you not!
  9. I leave chargers switched on so I just pop the phone on. Yes, I know I shouldn't really. My wife switches all chargers off when not charging. This leads me to "charge" on a switched-off charger every second day. No, I don't check every time. It's just not in my nature to as I always leave them on.
  10. Is the North/South border hard and fast? We hear of Clydebank applying to the East and clubs from England playing in Scotland. What's so special about the line around the Tay?
  11. What was the background to today's match? Were Hibs just wanting a game to get match-fit or was there some logic in trying to play against a side who would be similar in style and level to their upcoming opponents in Europe? Did the Rose get all or just half the gate? Anyway, a decent show by the Rose today, beaten by 2 class finishes by Swanson. They took the game to Hibs as well and didn't just sit back to try to keep the score down.
  12. I am your fairy godmother. What would you like for your other two wishes?
  13. I remember a few years back at Firhill, Partick played Dundee in consecutive weeks, once in the league and once in the cup and in the league match the grass banking was closed but in the cup game it was open. Something to do with Premier League and SFA having different rules. Of course, Health and Safety rules might have changed since then.
  14. It's just really used outside of Scotland to let people know where the teams come from. I used to be abroad when the European draws were made and I saw Hibs written in a French paper as Edinburgh Hibernian. Funniest one though was Airdrie Onions! A long time ago, I know.
  15. Correct. That's the origin of the name but it but if you didn't know that you'd have no idea where to go to find St Johnstone's ground.
  16. Point taken but Edinburgh also has a Queen's Park. And I know that Raith is a part of Kirkcaldy (where they dance in the streets).
  17. Going slightly off-topic here but the Scottish Seniors have or had a fair few teams whose names don't let you know where they play. Celtic, Rangers, Albion Rovers, Queen of the South, Queen's Park, Third Lanark, East Fife, Hibernian, Heart of Midlothian, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Morton, Raith Rovers and Clyde would all be difficult to find on a map. OK, East Fife are in, well, East Fife but that's still quite approximate and I remember that the Shire were always called East Stirling on the telly but aren't in Stirling and Hearts don't technically play in Midlothian. Of course, Morton are now Greenock Morton and Celtic and Rangers are referred to with the prefix Glasgow but those are all later additions. Even in the early days of the English league most teams could be placed quite easily, even if some, like Everton, are a part of a town rather than the town itself. Scotland seems quite unique in having so many non-geographical names Oh, and you won't find Partick Thistle in Partick.
  18. Piggybacking onto this topic and I'm sure it has been asked on here before but why are so many Junior sides, especially those from mining communities, named after flowers? It seems a bit ironic.
  19. I was also wondering that. Am I not right in saying that LTHV won the league but couldn't get promoted? I don't know if they took part in a play-off with the SoS champions but it would have seemed pointless. Unless, of course, they beat the SoS champions who, if they were licenced, would have lost their own chance for promotion.
  20. While I wouldn't object to Clydebank being beamed into the Premier Division I think others might. Also, would there be relegation from the Lowland League next season? If so, then there might be one from the East of Scotland League exchanging places. However, if it's a SoS team which wins promotion or if the relegated team from the LL is deemed to be a SoS team then all those numbers could change. Given that there seems to be someone doing a good job with fixtures, presumably there are sets of rules in place to decide what happens in differing circumstances. I'm feeling positive about this.
  21. What is this? Just your idea of how it should look?
  22. Just to add to that in the first Forfar tie we equalised just before half-time, went 3-1 down then pulled one back then equalised! Against Ross County (who were at the time fourth in the Premier League, remember) we equalised just before half-time, went 3-1 down then pulled one back then.... OK, the dream wasn't realised but those "big cup" days were special. However, I'll miss the Junior Cup adventures as well. I just hope that whatever takes its place will be as interesting.
  23. I'll second that. And just for a few minutes, at only 3-2 down half-way through the second half, we could dream.
