  1. I think this possibly gets blown out of proportion a bit. I’m not sure our core support this season is that much less than it was say in the 80s when we were a middling First Division team. Difference in those days was certain games might attract more casual fans; Broomfield being in the middle of the town certainly helped and obviously it was much cheaper, but it’s not like we had a core of 5-6k coming to the games every week. At least our attendance figures are heading in the right direction after a decade+ in the wilderness and I think if we were to ever play top league football again (fingers crossed) we would get a few more folk coming back, and draw bigger crowds than the likes of Livingston and Hamilton did anyway.
  2. Anyone know why there was only one stand open today? Would have thought Morton brought a big enough travelling support to justify opening a second stand, even behind the goals like for the Ayr game. Could it have been security related, as I assume the decision to switch dugouts again was?
  3. Time for a reality check I think. If we manage by some miracle to scrape 8th place this season, the squad’s going to need major surgery or investment in the summer to avoid a return to League 1. Much as it would be nice to make changes in January I don’t see much happening bar maybe one more in on loan. I actually think this season’s squad could be the weakest we’ve had in the last three seasons without the genuine quality of a Smith or Easton, and if we were in League 1 now we would probably be mid table at best. Hopefully something changes soon but can’t see where the next win is coming from
  4. The last few games should dispel the myth that we’ll be fine/comfortably mid table etc. No mistaking now the fact we’re relegation candidates and the lack of quality recruitment in the summer is coming home to roost. Any less than four points from the next two games and we could soon find ourselves stranded at the bottom. If McCabe has his sights set on a bigger job sometime soon (as I suspect he might) he’s going to have to start turning it around fast
  5. One point from 9 is a poor return from three games which could/should have been winnable. A tough few games coming up and we could easily be looking at 1 point from 18 in a couple of weeks time. Good that we’re still (somehow) 4th in the league but that will soon change the way things are going. The biggest concern is how the second top scorers in Scotland last season have turned into one of the lowest, even taking the higher level of opposition into account. If Gal doesn’t score I don’t know where the goals are coming from.
  6. I think you can pay at the gate anyway, but you can’t buy kids tickets on the website for some reason. I phoned their ticket office and bought them that way.
  7. That was exactly the sort of result I’ve been fearing since we got promoted. I was concerned all along about the lack of decent recruitment and no strength in depth now we’re in a harder league with stronger teams and more experienced players. A lot of this was put on the back burner after our good start but the last 2 or 3 games have been worrying. Just hope we can learn some lessons before the Raith game next week
  8. Agree about the strips, we should always be wearing the diamond whenever we can. Not a fan of the purple one in any case. Also just saw Joe Dixon being interviewed on the One Show (!?) in a feature on the trials at Broadwood for players looking for new clubs (recorded before he signed for Gretna). A strange signing, never really got a chance to see him in action, assume Rhys decided early on he didn’t fancy him.
  9. Possibly we just weren’t in for Smith? Assuming he thinks he can still make it at Hearts, it would surely make sense to pick a Championship club (whether us or someone else) over League 1 if he had a choice. Would Hearts not also want him playing at as high a level as possible?
  10. We have to learn lessons from today; first stop trying to pass it out from the back every time as the other teams will get wise to it and we’ll get punished in the Championship; second we need at least a couple more bodies in, minimum of a full back, a decent strong midfielder and a proper replacement for Smith. I fear a few of the guys on the park today just won’t cut it in the Championship. Early days though so not panicking yet
  11. Was really hoping we would have a few new faces by now, I think we all agree the squad needs strengthened (quite apart from the current goalkeeping situation). I understand the reasons why we would be holding out for the ‘right’ players but the league starts tomorrow and if anything we’re weaker than when last season finished. A lot of the feel good factor following promotion seems to have gone (in spite of the good results so far) and I can see a fair bit of pessimism setting in for the season ahead. Having said that I’ll be at Dunfermline tomorrow, season ticket is bought, and I’ll be delighted to be proved wrong!
  12. I know it’s still early in the window and I’m glad we’ve kept the majority of last season’s squad, but I think we need at least 4 or 5 experienced players who can come straight in to the starting lineup or I feel even 8th place might be beyond us. We must have the smallest budget in the Championship by a distance and when you see other teams making decent signings (even Accies splashing the cash in League 1) you start to get a bit worried.
  13. I’d like to see a slightly bigger diamond (like 70s/early 80s style) with white shorts and either red or black socks. I personally think red shorts detract from the diamond and no point having black shorts as we never wear them
  14. Disappointed but not surprised to see Smith go. Always felt he was likely to end up at Raith whether we went up or not. He’s done well but I feel losing either McGill or Frizzell would be a bigger loss after the season they’ve just had.
  15. Pleased with the list of players definitely staying, if we can add Frizz and Gabby (and ideally Smith) that’s a decent core to add to. Not too surprised about the departures, Deveney did ok but never really saw too much of the others to make a judgment. As Telfer and ATS aren’t mentioned presumably we’re still at least in talks with them?
