Dumbarton v Elgin 27/04/24
1993 replied to O'Kelly Isley III's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
I think you’re correct. Elgin are down to the bare bones. 4 subs last week which includes the goalie and several others looking like they have nothing left to give. I can’t see Elgin bursting a gut in this one. -
I personally don’t find it boring. I don’t manage many away games so am only seeing most teams twice a season and that is sometimes good to see the better teams. There was nothing boring about Div 2 this season and most teams had something to play for up to the last couple of weeks.

You said a couple of hours ago it was because of Price.
-
Hale said in his after match interview that the budget will be tight next year. I wondered at the time, if the purse strings were loosened to allow the loan signings of Golding and Gallagher to get us out of the hole we were in and now they have to be tightened because of this. Fingers crossed there is enough budget to back Hale.
-
He didn’t leave Elgin because Price was there. He left because Brechin could offer a better deal financially and there was less travel so he could spend more time on his fledgling business.

Thought a draw was about right but if we had managed to keep 11 on the pitch I fancied us to take the 3 points. On the sending off, I’m not one to criticise refs as it’s a hell of a difficult job, but let’s say it was not the refs best game of the season. On next season I think most of the players are signed apart from the loans, Jones will be away, Barron will return from Nairn and Lewis Duncan from Formartine, I think he’s at. Gallagher I would imagine will get a chance at Cove, if not something higher than us, Golding again will get better offers than us, Bray I think would benefit from another season on loan, I think we would have a chance of getting him and Ewen will probably get go out on loan at a level higher. Hale has recruited well though so hopefully with a bit of backing he can recruit a few more decent players. As previously said, pre Hale I gave us no chance of survival so great effort by all to turn it around. Great to see the support backing the team in numbers and shows the potential support we could have with a successful team.

The penny will drop eventually

They would probably need a new squad of players who would want to travel and they are hard to find up here with Elgin and Peterhead looking for same players.

What’s the thoughts on this game? Hopefully Peterhead are not on it fully now they are in the play offs. Another close game I’m sure, with hopefully Elgin coming out on top.
-
If Fraserburgh won the league they would embrace the play offs but they wouldn’t over commit any resources if they were promoted. A number of their players wouldn’t be overly keen on travel.

There are some supporters from 60’s 70’s that hark back to the glory days in HL with rose tinted specs!

Buckie are definitely not interested in going up. The previous poster who said Brechin and Banks o Dee are the only ones really interested in going up with maybe Inverurie added is correct.

I quite like him. He definitely has something about him although difficult to pigeon hole him to his best position. He is still lightweight and would think he would benefit from another season on loan somewhere particularly if ICT stay in the Championship.

A lot of football to be played yet. Not much between any teams , a favourable bounce of the ball or referee decision here and there can make a big difference. Two wins are easily doable and your safe.

Elgin City v The Spartans (06/04/2024)

A good point in the circumstances. Still too close at the bottom for comfort but I can’t see all of the bottom 3 overtaking us. Hopefully Stenny take their foot off the gas next Saturday! -

Another tough game, tougher with our injury situation but if we can take our chances maybe sneak a win. Heavy pitch and wind will no doubt be a factor. -
Peterhead have probably the best grass surface in the bottom two leagues. Every team waters the pitch before and at HT to make the ball zip across the surface faster. There is no way the pitch at Balmoor is heavy going.

East Fife v Elgin City (30/03/24)
1993 replied to CrispyMelon's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
I’m not very hopeful re this one. We have a few out injured, East Fife are flying at the moment and our record against them is poor. Hopefully we can keep it tight and in the worst case scenario we don’t do too much damage to our poor but improving goal difference, which could be crucial come the end of the season. -
Bray is just a bairn and inconsistency of performance will come in part from that. He definitely has a talent though and I personally haven’t seen any local wide players who were as good as he is.

Heard Golding has a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for 3 weeks.

Either that or his standards have slipped!
