  1. Scotland go down 8 6 to Swiss. Was back and fourth to 7th end when a couple of poor shots allowed the Swiss to pick up four. Scotland did have a chance of 4 with their last stone of the 8th end but just short and only picked up two. Surprise in the other play off with Estonia beating Canada in an extra end to qualify for their first ever world championship semi final.

  2. Scotland defeat previously unbeaten Sweden 8 4 in their last group match to qualify for the play off at the Workd Mixed Curling championships. Play Switzerland tomorrow 9.00 and if they win Canada in the semi final at 13.00. On the Curling Channel if anyone inerested.

The long predicted Tory assault on the sick and disabled incoming.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68853166

It appears to be only in England, but I'm not entirely certain.

    Highlights from the article...

"Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has set out plans to end what he called Britain's "sick note culture" if he wins the next general election.

He said "work is good for people" and he was worried benefits had become a "lifestyle choice".

The plans include fit for work notes away from GPs to "specialist work and health professionals" in England."

The list of those groups the Tories have targeted for the vampiric press to go after is enormous.  Now it's the sick and disabled.

Any suggestions of more help is of course welcome, but any additional support has to be in place first, it's staff cannot under any circumstances be given performance targets rewarding "getting claimants off" benefits, and the new arrangements must be demonstrated to work in the interests of claimants before changes in benefits are implemented.

For this new system to work, there would have to be tens of thousands of currently unemployed "specialist work and health professionals" knocking around - where are they?

Almost looking forward to the next time a Tory canvasser comes to my door. Almost.

Saw a bit of this on Sky News. He at one stage said it would reduce immigration as once people currently not working were "supported" back in into work they would fill job vacancies. Did not answer the where are these health experts question.

You missed they also intend people not back into work after 12 months would have their claims closed. Very compassionate and supportive if you have mental health problems!

Yeah. He did at the post match SkyTV interviews pitch side.

He probably was more angry than even your angriest supporters at full time.

I’m sure he regrets not shaking hands at the end of the match.

He had a chance to apologise in his Sky interview when it was mentioned but instead said he had to get in to see his players,. In this came across as a bad lower. Sky then showed the stage managed (Rangers PR?) hand shake after the interview. Getting a bit pissed off with Sky making no comment on the sectarian singing in Old firm matches which was particularly bad today, and to give Bennett his due he called it out,

Theres a street in Edinburgh (sure theres more than one) with a hidden burn running under one side of the street - and the tenements all have subsidence.

The other side, 20 yards across the road? None.

Its not always as simple as that.

The Jordan burn and and Comiston Burn have caused problems in Morningside. The Jordan led to flats having to be demolished at one stage and you can still see the buttresses holding up the buildings behind the Sainsbury Local shop. Various houses on one side of  Comiston Road just  past South Morningside primary school have "squint"mantles above the doors. I reall the terraced houses at the bottom of Comiston Road all being vacated for a period in the early 2000s to allow concrete to be poured into them, it took weeks.

Sportsound has become a dumbed down magazine show akin to Superscoreboard.

Im sure they've done their focus groups who all agree this is what the public want.

But listening to Mikey Stewart disgreeing with whatever anyone else says is extremely tiresome and a total turn off.

Quality public broadcasting, it is not....

Used to quite like Mikey Stewart as he was wiling to discuss topics such as the sectarian singing at Ran Celt games. Also gave good comment on games from the players point of view on commentary. However the current version comes across as just arguing for arguings sake, almost as it is a policy decision by the programmes directors. Did see him covering for McCoist or Sutton in the BT Scottish football preview show once and he had a nice selection of malts in the background so def has some good points.

Italy steal it at the extra end, Scotland trying too many push backs from distance that missed.

Didn't see the 3rd place match but disappointing to be going into the 10th end with a three lead and lose three, then have the hammer in the extra end and miss out. Maybe ran out of steam after semi.

Watching final and was 5 all in 10th end with Canada sitting 3 Sweden take last shot.  Edin drops it by about 10cm for his and Sweden's 7th word title. 9 ly loss was to Scotland although Edin was rested for that one.

  8. Tom English rightly calling out that the Billy boys will be sung tomorrow and the SPFL, SFA, police etc will do or ay nothing.  Think Michael Stewart was agreeing with him but before it could get a bit more interesting McIntyre moved on to another subject. There are times I despair of this country.

  9. Scotland through to semis against Canada after 8 3 win over USA. Its at 15.00 today but no sign of BBC showing on iPlayer. Olympic Channel at Olympics.cpm says they are showing both semis and the final but not sure if free or not.

As things stand Scotland (3rd) would play USA (6th) in play off at 8am tomorrow for the right to play Canada in the semi-final. However, if Canada lose to Switzerland (who have just failed to get to play-offs) and Scotland beat Sweden tonight we would be straight into the semi (unlikely)

Watched the Swiss, Germany match and the Swiss had a good chance to win with final stone but just over hit it. Hope the go for it tonight against Canada as a thank you to their fans.

I actually subscribed to the curling channel for this tournament only - cost £15.

Checked this out and was a 7 day option for 4.99 Canadian Dollars so took it. Watched Scotland last night and just now. Scotland 5 4 up on Norway after 5 ends.

Goes to extra end and Scotland edge Norway 9 8.

One win should be enough to get in the play-offs.  Norway and USA can both only get to 7 wins (which Scotland already have) Indeed Italy on 6 wins have to play SUI, GER and NOR. Win our matches and we can secure a semi spot or possibly top the table

Thanks. My IT capabilities are limited and would struggle to come up with this.

  13. Scotland 5 Netherlands 3 leaves Scotland with 7 wins and 2 losses with 3 games left and sitting 3rd in table. Unfortunately all hard games. Switzerland (6 and 2 and 4th) at 18.00 tonight. Then Norway (4 and 5 and 7th) at 8.00 and Sweden (9 and 0 and top) tomorrow at 18.00. Swedish one is on BBC iPlayer.

Top two automatically go to semis with 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th play offs to see with play them. Sweden and Canada (8 and 1) already through. With Germany and Italy both at 6 and 3 it's going to be very tight. Beat Switzerland and Norway will be enough but a big ask.

Wish I'd checked about the £15 for tournament offer as I'm using the iPlayer and Canadian channel TSN for games via Firestick app.

  14. Watching Scotland in the Men's Worlds v Japan on the BBC iPlayer just now. Their 7th match, 5 wins 2 defeats,  of which so far only 3 shown and only 1 more of the remaining due to be shown. As one of the few winter games we excel in you would think all games would be shown.
