  1. I’d honestly sack Mathie before Bullen. About 2 seconds before I admit, but still. One lucky guess aside on Dipo, neither of them have made the slightest bit of progress in their 2 years at the club. The only positives are the infrastructure investment which is all down to Smith.
  2. Change for the sake of change, though Young will at least have a pop from range.
  3. He’s a good player, no argument. I just don’t think he’s been doing enough. Another victim of the Bullen malaise perhaps.
  4. Started the season well for me, but just seems to be fading away. Hasn’t done anything since he came back from injury.
  5. Murphy has been a real disappointment for me. The stats suggest a reasonable return in terms of goals/assists, but he’s been anonymous much too often for my liking.
  6. Arbroath having to call guys out the crowd to make up a team and yet still we huff and puff.
  7. Really don’t see that Kerr had long enough in charge to really make that judgement. Take covid out of the equation and he basically had less than a year in charge, with more than a few challenges during that period. Think he got the balance of the team wrong in his second season with not enough runners, but Joe Chalmers came to us with a solid pedigree and should have done better. Bruce Anderson ought to have scored plenty at our level, but clearly chucked it after 3/4 games.
  8. Throwing jelly at the wall aside, I do actually think that looks a better balanced team than last weeks nonsense of one up front with Paul Smith playing as a number 10. Rose is poor, but he might do a wee bit better playing around an actual recognised forward.
  9. This week’s tombola of desperation returns Rose and Syla to the starting lineup, with our best midfielder from last week dropping out. Who knows? Think Ahui is maybe a wee bit hard done by too as we know McAllister is at least as pish but with less pace,
  10. He’s scored more goals than Mark McKenzie this season…
  11. Hopefully one of the Inverness players has enough self respect to boot Watt up in the air.
  12. He makes Frankie Musonda look like the bionic man. That’s why inverness are desperate to get rid of him.
  13. I’m sure Mathie said in his new year message that we were definitely looking to “trade”. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Rose heading back down south, perhaps on loan.
  14. Interesting appointment for Queens Park. You could argue that he inherited a St Johnstone team that was approaching its peak then had to deal almost immediately with that team breaking apart in a very short period of time. Common complaint seems to be his recruitment was terrible, and with the expectations of the fans raised sky high by 2 cup wins in a year it all seemed to go to pieces pretty quickly. Total gamble really that there is actually a decent manager in there who was overwhelmed by a perfect storm of problems all at the same time. Wouldn’t exactly have been buzzing if he’d got the Ayr job, but given we’re circling the plug hole to League 1, I could have lived with it. Even a brief new manager bounce for them could be fatal for us.
  15. As if it won’t be common knowledge amongst agents that a player has signed a PCA.
  16. I’m not convinced it really is a gamble, more like paralysis. They just don’t want to face up to the fact that the “plan” isn’t working. There is no alternative other than to do nothing and hope for the best.
  17. Think that was the 2011-12 team. But as I said earlier, that whole era just blends into one for me. I still say Reid did well given his threadbare budget.
  18. I vaguely recall it was a horrible winter with umpteen postponements which led to us having to play a tonne of midweek games towards the end of the season which basically killed a part time squad. I’m pretty sure we were about 10 minutes away from staying up on the last day of the season up at Morton until we lost 2 late goals that relegated us.
  19. The 2 teams that got relegated under Reid kind of blend into one for me. I think the first one was pretty pish apart from Ryan Stevenson - his second effort was a bit better, though as Mark Roberts observed, playing Michael Moffat at left midfield all season was criminal (might be one of the few things he got right!).
  20. Which Stainrod team are we talking about? The one that got relegated had, bizarrely, half a dozen players who made it into Duncan Carmichael’s 100 Greatest Ayr players book - Frank Rolling, John Sharples, Gregg Hood, Duncan George, Cammy Duncan and John Traynor. On one level it’s incredible to think a team with 6 players that would waltz into the current 11 could get relegated, until you remember we had Ian Gilzean and Brian Bilsland up front…
  21. Not great. Might be worth keeping if we end up in League 1.
  22. Smith and Mathie have clearly decided they can live with relegation if it comes to that. Still no sign of any clarification on whether Bullen will be here next season either way (I’d say a contract extension would have happened by now if it was going to) - would be nice if there was an actual journalist out there who would ask the question. The most charitable interpretation is that they’ve decided to back Bullen and there is money to make significant moves in the transfer market. a) I doubt it b) Bullen wouldn’t have a clue what he needs if there is money c) Even if he got what he was after, he wouldn’t be able to use it properly anyway. Mark Kerr must be shaking his head given he was essentially sacked on the basis of 3 consecutive home defeats.
