  1. Spot on. I was on a long weekend trip in the Highlands, but made sure we left earlier than we usually would so that I could get to this game. I wanted to see us put one over on them after our last display against them and I wanted to see us progress through in a cup that we really had a great chance of winning... again putting it right after our last cup tie. But we got most of the first team on the bench and clearly management not prioritising this cup as never turned to them when we were struggling. The very rotated team and system had a lot of the ball, but did very little with it. Too many touches, too many passes, too often just slowing the play and not getting any shots away. Our goal was a deflected pass into the path of Downie for a massive deflected shot to take it past keeper. In contrast, the space we allowed Glenrothes at the back they took full advantage of. Bursting down wings, quick balls in making sure they got shots off and a couple of really decent finishes too. Well done to Glenrothes on a well deserved victory. Broxburn are just limping towards the end of the season, looking to just fall over the finishing line to win the league and put aside all else to get there.
  2. A tight first half today with not a lot between the sides, but then what a start to the 2nd half it was. Looked untouchable as raced into a 3 goal lead. The way it was going it looked like we could have more. But then, just back from suspension, Greg Page is sent off and just takes a little bit of the shine off a great win. He really makes it far too easy for refs to book him. Lads dug in well to see the game out. Dundonald got a phenomenal consolation with a freekick from about 25 yards... some hit. But it was too late to be of any concern. 3 points in the bag from a tough place to get points. Job done.
  3. A nice evening so took the short trip down to Pumpherston for their match with Livingston United tonight. A pretty bumpy pitch was a bit of a leveller that stopped the game from really flowing, but Pumph ran out 3-1 victors and on the balance were just about the better side in a match low on quality. Result just about keeps Pumph in the promotion race, while Livi stay bottom and still searching for a win which I'm sure must be their target for the season now.
  4. A great win over Dunbar last night, but best of all a much improved all round performance. Got away with one when Dunbar cracked what would have been a worldy off the bar just before the break when it was still 0-0. 2nd half we looked a bit more in control, but not creating too much until big Errol suddenly from almost nothing just flicked one in... well taken. After that we had a few good passages of play, but it wasn't until near the end that Jones smashed a shot from distance that was parried by the keeper nicely into the path of Miller to calmy pick a spot and head in before keeper could recover. Brilliant! And then we collapsed a bit, tried to hang on, Dunbar started to overrun us and got a goal back making it a very nervy last couple of minutes... but job done and a vital 3 points bagged. 4 games to go and 2 wins needed to guarantee the league...
  5. If Stoneyburn win all their games in hand (and looking at their schedule that is one absolutely massive "if"), then promotion is completely in their own hands...
  6. Today is another great example that just as it looks like Broxburn are dropping points, other results work in our favour and no one gains any ground on us. Not the first time that's happening and if anything it's that digging in and just doing enough that might get us over the line. Still a bit closer than I'd like it, but all in our own hands!
  7. Well conditions are still a bit on the blustery side it was never going to be a classic, but we ended up with quite a fiery and competitive match. As it turns out, with being a man down for a large period of the game, coming from behind and getting the 1-1 draw is a good result. And unexpectedly, other results have gone in our favour to make it a pretty decent day. Thought the lads competed brilliantly when down to 10 men and for large spells of the 2nd half it wasn't obvious and thought Big Errol put himself about well and was a total nuisance for their defence. Deserved his goal. His best game since he got the green boots!!
  8. Congratulations to Tranent. Horrible conditions for a cup final, but both teams did about as well as they could. Wind getting an assist for 3 of the 4 goals. Penalties were borderline farcial due to the wind... but definitely dramatic and entertaining.
  9. Tam is an Edinburgh City fan... he's still suffering PTSD from yesterday's 3G match!
  10. Genuinely thinking that may have to be the option. This season has kinda become one glorious advertisement for 3G pitches!
  11. Just looking through the league tables after another swathe of postponements and notice that with less than 2 months to go, Stoneyburn have only played 15 games... half their league season. I hadn't realised just how badly affected they had been! What are the chances of them finishing their season on time? Or might the 3rd Division have to go with some kind of extension just to get through the fixture pile up?
  12. I'm stunned it's still defying the odds... Maybe just no available local ref yet to officially pull it..?
  13. Almost a total wipeout... so far looks like just 6 games are still on in the East. Well done all sides in getting the decisions made early
  14. I notice a few venues have already been switched to nearby alternative grounds with 3/4G pitches. Don't expect anything on grass to be on...
  15. Alas, not being the hardened soul I was in my misguided youth, I skipped this one given the somewhat biblical proportions of rain! Not seen too many reports of the match itself, but I reckon you guys will be quite happy with him. Proper athlete - don't expect too many goals, but get him a strike partner and they'll do ok off him.
  16. I guess fair enough if it's generally the known rules. It maybe just needs updating in rulebook with a "unless home stadium is Meadowbank"
  17. Another trophy for Stirling Uni. They do seem to have a wee habit of picking up silverware. Congratulations on another win. East of Scotland Cup/ City Cup winners.
  18. Victory for the Uni last night! 1-0 against their "hosts" in a Cup Final. Out of curiosity, why was Meadowbank chosen as the venue? Given it's probably the worst venue in Scottish footballs top 5 leagues (at least) and meant it wasn't a neutral venue, it seems a pretty odd choice. Plenty grounds between Edinburgh and Stirling to choose from! Anyone at the game? What kind of side did City put out? I would guess they were gonna take it quite seriously to try and get a win... Congratulations Stirling Uni.
  19. Right now this is my feeling too, there is maybe just too much for Musselburgh to do to catch us and if we can just keep adding the odd points here and there to keep it a moving target for them, all the better. I hope it's just been the long period of inconsistent weather and cup ties coming in too and would love to see us play some great stuff and get a few solid wins... a bit like we were before New Year... and claim it with a bit of style.
  20. Take away the month of March which has been a bit of a tricky one and it's been a phenomenal season. Even including March, it's been beyond expectations. No right to expect to beat anyone as a lot of decent sides at this level, but we can maybe ask for more consistent performances... easier said than done, but confidence should be high. Hoping that next week, it's a chance to refocus on the league and refocus on it being one of the better sides in the division so the team will have to have their A game from the start... which if it is, could see us getting back to a more positive feeling again.
  21. Tricky away cup tie. Left it late to get the winner... but kept a clean sheet and got through, so it has to go down as a good day. Not the greatest performance, and the first half was quite poor. Leith looked a decent, pacey side, and maybe if they'd taken one of their 3 or 4 good chances before we scored, it would have been all different. But some great saves from Bob and one outstanding last ditch tackle from Heath kept them out. Happy with the win and the well worked goal... but we need to perform so much better, especially with a big league match at Jeanfield next week.
  22. Great job here by Norrie capturing much of the action. Actually lost track of the number of chances that Broxburn had...
