He had a clause in his contract that he would automatically get another year if he played x amount of games. As the season was called off early he never hit that target despite the fact he would have if the season continued, so we released him.

How bad was the reaction at full-time?

His ambition is to be a manager/coach though, he has to think more longer term. I agree it’s unlikely and I am likely reaching, but I wouldn’t be shocked he walks just so he doesn’t have it on his CV.

No chance he gets another managers job in Scotland by relegating a full-time side in the third division. He seems settled living here so he has that to think about.

In my opinion, I don’t think Bartley will be here next season. It’s the biggest open goal the BoD have in terms of getting fans on side right away.

The people who are in the “be careful for what you wish for” camp do my head in. I don’t think it’s expecting too much for a full time team to be making an attempt for promotion in this league (as the minimum) and our ground not being left to ruin. The way others will have you believe we should be happy to just have a team.

Surely us would it not be? Bartley promised our Board and the players promotion this season if they backed him, look how that’s turned out!

Yep, that’s why we were signing the likes of Rico Quitongo and Dave McKay and you were signing Liam Grimshaw and Alan Power. Yeah makes sense that our budgets are the same!

I know for a fact we tried signing a player under Gibson while in League One and we offered him £350 basic wage. A few weeks later he signs for Arbroath on a part-time contract on quite a bit more money. Are you honestly trying to suggest that we spend similar to Morton/Arbroath/ Airdrie regarding playing budget across a whole squad?

We could afford to offer a decent enough deal to one or two players, but I could guarantee you across the whole squad we have no where near close to a Championship budget. Not really that difficult to understand.

I’ve read that statement as if they already have someone lined up. Otherwise would they not have said something along the lines of that they are open to inviting others to take over?

They have been wanting away for years the current BoD, I’d imagine (hope) now they finally are stepping away they have someone lined up.

His contract length wasn’t disclosed in the tweet announcing him but you’d think so. Would be happy with McCall, been saying for a few months he’s who I’d want.

I’m not saying it’s true/false. But, it is increasingly common in the top levels of football for performance obligations in contracts. Obviously, none of us know really whether it is something more common at our level. I would be shocked if we don’t have something in the contract which means he’s not due the whole amount. But as you say, I can’t personally see a situation where he signed a deal which could give up a whole years salary. My guess would be that there will be fixed amounts of compensation relating to our final league position and we will part company over the summer. *Fingers crossed I am talking shite and he’s been emptied tomorrow morning*

I guess we will wait and see.

Heard from a few that we don’t owe him compensation if we don’t get play offs this year today, presume it’s just about waiting for the season to finish before starting again next year. Also, Ferguson is an absolute waste of a shirt anytime I’ve seen him (quite an achievement to be singled out amongst this gang)
