We are definitely a little short on depth and I get where you are coming from there but Goss is not a loss. A passenger for most of his time here until he realised he should start playing a bit in the last few games of the season to try and get a move. There's a reason he's no signed for anyone else yet IMO. Also, I don't think many in our support expect Miller to perform in every game but he's been consistently good to excellent when he's played so far. Coupled with Slattery playing well and looking motivated, and Spittal who has also been consistently great for us, I think our midfield is actually stronger this season.

Having seen a fair bit of Luton' s season last year, it's clear Edwards has a very different approach and doesn't value Campbell. Big drop off in game time after he took over. It seems to be a playing style thing rather than personal. The mad thing to me is that a pressing midfielder, a Kante-type disruptor, is what they have been crying out for in the first two games. They are not going to have the chance to play a possession game against EPL opposition with their resources. Campbell is superbly suited to that pressing role, but instead he'd rather have Tahith Chong and Barkley stroll about ball watching it would seem. I'm obviously biased but it's a weird one as an outsider looking in.

Not keen on Clark at all. I'm more curious about the Tierney situation tbh - I'd say there's an argument for recalling him from loan, either to play as a second striker - wee man / big man etc - or as a 10 in a midfield four, if getting another (decent, non-injury prone) striker in proves to be an issue.

Paton took his chance today and played with real confidence. He really changed things when he came on. For Efford, the exact opposite - he did *not* take the chance he was given. It really feels as though his selection today was a "prove me wrong" moment from SK's point of view and being hooked at half time tells its own story. I don't expect to see him in claret and amber again. The only thing that might save him is our laughable injury list but it does feel like getting him out the door so another striker can be brought in would be best for all parties at this point.

Killie will be organised, tough to break down and will try to hit on the counter with pace. McInnes has also recruited well. But they aren't miles ahead of us, and it's certainly not a given they'll pump us next weekend. Both of the old firm put in lazy, flat performances against them and they failed to score against a porous Hearts defence that gifted them plenty of opportunities. Likewise we're not suddenly terrible because of a poor performance in the cup. We are two (2) games into a league season and on 4 points. Let's maybe give it a few more games before we start the ritual gnashing of teeth eh

St Mirren vs Motherwell Sat 19th Aug 2023
For Your Pies Only replied to Molotov's topic in Domestic Cup Football
I see the old wireless is still the main form of entertainment in Paisley, how quaint -
There's no need for personal attacks and the article itself is an absolute rid neck. Sam North however has plenty of previous about posting content/video of folk when they've directly asked him not too - one of them have commented directly in this thread. Which is wido behaviour on his part and something he should take responsibility for. So really what it all boil down to is fuds getting mad at other fuds on the internet. And I don't have the time or the patience for that kind of sh*te. Any chance of some chat about the actual football today? I'll guarantee* a safe bet on 12+ yellow cards

I don't know enough about his coaching record or credentials to comment on his skills in that area - could be a great coach for all I know. But he doesn't seem like he has the personality best suited for this kind of position tbh. While tough love is sometimes needed, 'relentless negativity' doesn't seem like an ideal vibe for a youth setup. Hopefully he has at least worked on his hair-trigger temper from his playing days...

I do think, given the severity of Moult's issues over the past few years - since 2018 he's barely played - there's distinction. Based on who we can afford to bring in, and recent comments about us targeting players who have underperformed elsewhere to try and get 'value' in a difficult market, risk will always be a factor, but the risk on Moult seems a lot higher than any of the others you mentioned. I get your larger point, and I really hope Moult overcomes his issues, genuinely, but I'd be shocked if Obika doesn't end up playing a lot more football than Moult this season.

Feel the same. I am a little concerned (just a little) that we are boxing ourselves into a single system and formation, with fewer and fewer options for flexibility and alternative tactics against certain opposition though. Tierney could have been tested as a second striker behind Obika/Wilkinson to fit the standard formation while coming off the bench as an attacking mid/number 10, for example - just to give us options. But equally he needs to be playing at his age so I get the logic.

Lamie's crab shuffle & inefectual wee push (rather than making any attempt to win the ball or block the cross) for the 2nd goal conceded is a really bad habit he's had since his time at Livi. I've seen that specific move a couple of times and in general he's far too quick to put his arms out and unbalance himself in situations where he should be paying attention to the ball. Matches his psuedo hard man persona, two footed tackles and all, when he gets frustrated. It's the sort of thing that you'd expect would have been coached out of a 30 year-old long since. Mugabi has never been great, but at least you could chart some small improvements in his play and defensive awareness in the seasons since he signed as an emergency backup, while Lamie seems to have regressed in the last 2 seasons.

Lasley seems to have done a great job since the move - pleased for him. I know a lot of Well fans who were (and still are) keen on a potential return here to take up Burrows old position, which is as much a mark of respect for the work he has done in Paisley as a reflection on his status as a bit of a legend here.
