I’m interested in the rumours re another admin error in relation to the Goodwillie transfer to Raith which cost the club a lot of money.

Don’t know what the rumour you have heard is but I know there was an admin error around DGW that cost the club

Which raises a concern that we are less fit than Stenny and Spartans or it’s just down to poor quality of player, or a combination of both

    Probably a combination of both

Dont know about Spartans but would expect us to be below Stenny come the end of the season

    plus also below

    East Fife

    Peterhead

    Dumbarton

    Forfar

Which really means best looking at is 6th

Not sure it’s “pish”, but definitely negative and justified I’d say.

Where does your optimism stem from?
    Good signings?

    Experienced Manager?

    Competent Board?

Or,  is it just blind faith and loyalty like most of us have displayed for years.

The proof will be in the pudding- let’s see how we go over the first quarter, but personally, I’m afraid I don’t hold out much hope of us doing at all well let alone competing at the top end of the league.

Have to agree with Harry here,  to compete at L2 level you need to have players who have been around the block and played at that level.

We have signed in the main a very inexperienced squad.  Only 7 outfield players have 2 more seasons experience in the pro leagues.

Sure the young guys might be good and we have a great season but more times that not young players who have left PL teams cant hack it anywhere in the pro league and just disappears without a trace.

See that we have 5 potentials out tomorrow and with only 16 outfield players signed dont get along to NDP too early tomorrow or you might find yourself getting a game.

No the question is TWO SETS OF BROTHERS not just two brothers

We now have 2 sets of brothers in Scullion and Grant who could all feasibility play at the same time sometime this season

When are we actually going to sign some players who could play at L1 level

i guess we won’t as never signed any when we were in L1

Or when we going to sign a player who has played pro level who hasn’t previously worked under JD or been with Dumbarton

Someone has already said the Grants. But this question reminds me of the McLennan brothers we had about 15 years ago.

Ah must have missed that, thanks. If our bid is successful they might change their outlook.

Maybe but I think if any bid will be successful there one will

    1. They are already embedded in the local area

    2. They have support from local MPs, councillors etc.

Is there any reason that we both couldn’t use it? Plenty of teams sharing these days, it’s much less of an issue with Astro surfaces. A joint venture with us as primary tenant would make a lot of sense.

Clyde were willing to share Crownpoint with Finnart.

Finnart werent willing to share Crownpoint with Clyde.

That the reason why we both cant use it.

Both sharing it and retaining the athletics club makes sense but the problem with common sense is unfortunately it isnt very common.

I think the problem it highlights is that Duffy is still the guy signing the players. McLean could have all the coaching identity he likes but if the he and Duffy are not aligned we’ll be onto a hiding.

Was pretty much confirmed at the recent meeting JD is in control of player acquisition

BMcL is just the coach responsible for tactics, taking training and working with the players that he is given

The signing of Forbes and the identity what BMcL wants to do shows to me a major disconnect in the club

Wouldn’t surprise me if there is a massive implosion at the Club within the first quarter of season (particularly if we don’t get off to a positive start after the first round of games)

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about the disparity between the physical excellence McLean is striving for and the boys we've actually ended up going for.

I was all behind McLean when he said that his sole aim was to have a physically fit squad

But to say this then sign the likes of Forbes is totally bonkers as we all know that you couldn’t get a player that physical fitness is his well known biggest issue

    Craig Brown died this morning!

Strangely enough he just popped into my head over the weekend.  Was thinking he must be a fair age now and that I hadnt heard anything about him for a while.

RIP Craig - worked tirelessly for the Bully Wee when with us and was good to see that he moved onwards and upwards when he left us as despite the "Brown must Go" shouts from the Shawfield terraces I think he did all you could have expected with what he had at his disposal.

Will go down as a Clyde legend.

I know I make Lyon a bit of a scapegoat but don’t think I’ve disliked a player as much as him for a long time. He’s just hopeless

Personally I think Lyons is ok.  Now he cant defend or cross the ball (not the best qualities for a full back) but dont think he is a full back and would be more suited to a place further forward or even inside one in midfield.

As for Cameron, totally agree.  Absolutely hopeless and can near enough guarantee will be anonymous in most of the games he plays.

Was pretty much of the same opinion of Scullion last year but in fairness he did come on to a bit of a game towards the end of the season so worth another go.  Whereas Cameron showed absolutely nothing for the entire season.

As I said previously I would have liked a small squad with quality rather than just filling the side out.

    I have said this before.

I would have signed only 14 players using the budget to get as much quality in as possible then filled out the squad with 6 loans.

  13. We are definitely assembling a squad that looks like being towards the bottom rather than the top half of the league (can’t see us signing a 15 goal a season striker so would predict we will end up 7th or 8th at this stage)

One goalie that is totally immobile and the other from the worst team in Scotland last year

Two full backs who were p”s4 last year and nothing to show they won’t be equally p”s4 this year

One of most immobile centre half’s have ever seen

The most immobile player in Scottish football in the last few years in Forbes.  Only get out is he scores the odd free kick

One of the worst Clyde players have ever seen in Cameron and was amazed that was even considered again

Our only hope is getting a half to full season out of Cuddihy and Grant in midfield but with one currently crocked and the other more than likely to be for fair share of the season then unlikely

Thought McLean spoke well at the recent meeting and bought in to his vision of “we will be the fittest team in the league”

No chance of that with the squad of player assembled.  They might be individually fit against their own standard but can’t see them being sufficiently fit to compete towards the top half of the league

Not meaning to jump on you specifically @Bullyweeno1 but I see the “worst in 40 years” comment mentioned a lot in relation to Cameron.

Whilst I agree, he’s not brilliant, I honestly cannot overstate how much guys like John Kane, Bryan Dingwall, JC Hutchison, Zac Butterworth, Stuart Mills, Craig Tully, Mark Archdeacon, Conn Boyle, Mark Casey etc are engrained into my mind. It’s maybe just to do with my age as I was fairly young watching a lot of those guys play but they all stick out as being absolutely hopeless or beyond anonymous.

So far Cameron has been bad, but he’s not at that level for me.

Don’t know any of these guys

There was a 5 year period in L2 at Broadwood before DL that I didn’t go too any games so if these guys from that period can’t comment

Other than that period been pretty consistent fan since early 80s and Cameron one of the worst I have seen

    But it all about opinions

  15. To any QoS fans asking about Docherty, usually at this level of the game when a player moves for a fee there is disgruntlement amongst fans

Think this is the first time I have ever see a player move for a fee and there is 100% support for the player leaving the building

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone else’s opinion

Unbelievable that anyone would want to pay a fee for him.  Wouldnt have him back if you paid us to take him back

I got the impression it was more a dig at Lennon. Also alluded to Danny prepared reports on opposing teams really well but over complicated what he asked players to do to combat the opposition. I’d agree with that as Lennon changed team and game plan every week.

I also got impression last night that McLean was far from impressed with  last years squad mentality and attitude. Vague reference to poor changing room.

Yeah agree with above with what McLean was saying.

He was basically saying that the fitness levels and mentality wasnt right from the start of the season and it wasnt able to be sorted.

  17. Agree with above

Wasn’t overwhelmed with McLean appointment but thought he came across really well with clear idea of what he wants

The main points he mentioned I totally agree with

    1. Last year the fitness levels were well below what they should have been.  We may not be the best team in the league this season but one thing we can be is the fittest

    2. Also agree if you are fitter it just makes the game easier as it progresses

    3. Players at our level don’t need things complicated.  They just need explained to them in clear terms what is expected of them

    4. Players at our level are much of a muchness.  And big side of the game at our level comes down to mental attitude

Willing to give him a chance but ultimately will come down to the squad of players and how he does the first 6-9 games

it’s that Duffy should be kept well clear of sourcing players,

Unfortunately as DoF this will be his main remit

The head coach role is to get fit, coach and decide tactics for the players he is given.  Generally the head coach has little to no influence in who those players actually are

  19. As others have said

    1. Amazed that Cameron has been offered a new deal.  One of the worst Clyde players have ever seen.

    2. It looks like we didnt even offer Mullen and Salkeld new deals.  If not that is criminal if you offered deals to the likes of Cameron and Lyons.  Now if they were offered new deals and said no (which think they both would have said) then at least say that.  But looks like they havent even had the option of a new deal.

    3. Scullion who up to about 6 weeks ago would have put in the category of "one of the worst clyde players have ever seen" has in fairness come on to a decent game the tail end of the season and worth offering a deal.

    4. Grant, McLean and Sula happy enough offered terms as they will be ok at L2 level.

    5. Cuddihy probably too good for L2 but given his recent injury record might struggle to get a L1 team.

    6. Duthie happy to give him another go as his season was pretty much a write off.

If all 8 offered terms accept, then with them, the 3 already contracted and possibly Grant then gives 12 players signed.  Need to sign 2 goalies so that takes us up to 14 which probably leaves about another 6 places to fill.

Are you ready to replace a player you criticise?

That an entirely difficult argument - I have never played football at any level and can quite easily say that all the players, despite how bad they might appear, are infinitely better than me

All saying is is very easy to say “sack the board”

Unless you want to put yourself forward or know of a credible alternative then we would be in a worse position than currently in.

I would never criticise anyone who is brave enough to put themselves forward to join the board - it is easy to blame but what is the solution?

    Very easy to say

    1. There are better people out there

    2. There are investors willing to invest if the current board wasn’t there

If so let them step forward.  Say what their plan is.  Say what they are going to invest.  Etc etc

I would happily back anyway, as an owner, that has a credible and funded plan.

The Board need to be removed.

Don’t disagree but unless there is someone who wants to take over and has a shed load of money they are happy to write off by putting into the club then won’t happen

Are you ready to put yourself forward to join the board?

It all very easy to say “sack the board”  but unless there is a group who

    1. have the clubs interest at heart

    2. who have significant money to invest

    3. Have the necessary skills and time to implement their vision

We would be in a worse position (yeah know hard to believe but would be true) if the board just all resigned en masse
