  1. Still gutted that I missed that East Fife game over 30 years later.

My brother’s flatmate’s broken down car meant we spent the evening in the pub in Aberdeen instead. Can’t remember how we found out the result but it probably involved calling my mum from the pub payphone and getting her to check the score on ceefax.

Young folk don’t realise how easy things are now. Used to be quite a pain to get full time scores if you weren’t in-front of the tv. As a kid it used to involve running from Gayfield to the DER tv shop in the high street where there was always a crowd watching the results come in on the tv left on in the window display. Later it was the tiny tv in Tutties, now it’s in your pocket 24/7.

    There's a man over there
On his chin there is hair
And he's climbing the stairway to Hampden!

Highlights from the East Fife replay now on Youtube, includes some good footage of the bearded army and some interviews around the town prior to the Rangers Quarter Final tie.

After many years of utter crap that was an exciting time to be a Lichtie. It was magic to be in the news and on the tv. McGrain wasn’t a particularly successful manager but the boost in profile it gave the club was brilliant.

Don’t know what ever happened to my beard, made from a repurposed gorilla suit I believe.

Still got my Danny McGrain t-shirt though as per my avatar.

  3. One thing that’s never sat comfortably with me is this idea that half of our squad are chomping at the bit to go and join the Campbells at East Fife.

I got the impression that the players were just as scunnered with Dick as the fans were towards the end. Pretty common knowledge (isn’t it?) that he was a big part of Bobby and others leaving?

Wouldn’t say im happy to give him time but the board obviously are so no point greeting about it he’s staying so might aswell see what happens.

from what whispers im hearing and new signings I don’t think we would be far off if things go right but we won’t know that till season starts I guess so no point greeting till then.

Again, I completely agree with you.

We have to give him more time because there is, unfortunately no other option.

All I was saying was that I understood Exile’s sentiment - that “some” of our fans seem to think all is rosy because some players have re-signed and we’ve made a positive signing. Doesn’t and shouldn’t take away from the fact that McIntyre has the worst management record I’ve ever seen at Arbroath…. By a long long way. No one has ever survived anything like this and I don’t understand why he has.

But saying people have been ‘bought off by the board’ re McIntyre because we have announced a signing.

They’ve probably, even though they don’t particularly like the decision, just come to terms with it and are getting on with it like adults

I don’t think he meant literally. Probably not the best choice of words from him granted, but there definitely seems to be an “everything will be fine now” vibe after the last week. Maybe I should stop reading our social media.

    Look...

The club have said what's happening, they gave everyone an opportunity to hear what's happening live and in person and the facility to ask any question you wanted if you needed to

It's not what you want, it's not what I want, it's not what a lot of people want, but it's the reality - the board have made a tough decision and they think that's what is best for the club

They know what the plans are and what McIntyre wants to put in place... we don't, none of us do. So I'm not going to personally sit and be arrogant enough to think that I know best and any other decision is flat out wrong

So people might not like it, I don't like it. But are folk really going to bang on every day until next season starts like stroppy children not getting their own way because I don't know why anyone would want to do that. They'd maybe be better off screaming it into a cushion instead. What is anyone gonna get out of constantly repeating themselves about wanting him sacked after it's all been addressed by the club and the decision has been made

McIntyre might not be a success next year. I lean that way with my thinking too but he is here to stay, the board like his plans for next season and going forward that's all he can be judged on, maybe just maybe it will work...

I agree with every single word you say.

However all Exile did was express an opinion that many of us probably share.

    😂

Easy to laugh but I kind of agree with the sentiment.

A decent signing and some players re-signing and suddenly everyone seems to be happy to give McIntyre more time.

Even if all of our out of contract players re-sign and we bring in a few more players that doesn’t take away from the fact that McIntyre has been a disaster for us with not one iota of noticeable improvement. He’s been incapable of getting anything out of a squad containing (allegedly) some of the best part time players in Scotland and a load of his own signings, and I fail to see how that will change.

I’ve never seen a manager, any manager, turn this kind of situation around in all my years of watching football and I’d be astonished if McIntyre was the one to buck that trend.

I, like many of our fans, really wanted to see Petrie as our new boss when Campbell left.

However, he’s ridiculously hot and cold - that result tonight and the 0-7 v Falkirk would, quite rightly, cause heads to explode in our support.

  9. Full time players aren’t exactly training 40 hours a week. I’m self employed and the type of work I do I would definitely still be able to run my business and play full-time football, age and lack of ability aside.

No reason McKenna couldn’t train 15-20 hours a week and still keep his business ticking over. Does he have staff? He might just fancy a crack at full-time football before the end of his career.

    McIntyre’s Arbroath Record

    Played 21
    Won 2
    Drawn 5
    Lost 14
    For 18
    Against 52

I’ve seen some terrible managers in my time but nothing comes close to this.

It really is mind boggling that he’s still at the club. Yes he inherited a mess but things have arguably got worse the longer he’s been in place, even with all his signings and a full squad to pick from.

He came in when we were on our knees with a very clear aim - to stabilise and fight for survival and he’s failed completely. We have gone down with a whimper.

I came on here a good while back saying that it was a bad appointment and that McIntyre would do nothing to improve the club - especially with regards to the team bonding that is so important.  Everyone on here will know who they are but there were regular posters on here that repeatedly refused to acknowledge it was in any way McIntyre’s fault and that he was placed in an impossible situation.

I wonder if they will finally acknowledge they were wrong about him?  Alternatively I assume they still have faith in him turning this around next season?

A few of us, me included thought that it was far too early to judge McIntyre during the very early part of his tenure due to the shit show that he inherited. We were an absolute mess when he arrived and we were all willing to at least give him a chance

However it’s been far far worse than any of us hoped and I’m pretty sure we’re all united now in thinking that his appointment has been a compete disaster.

I don’t think there’s anyone left who’s willing to give him more time.

Don't think you should be having to explain or justify yourself to anyone.

Oh I know. Just pisses me right off when folk use this shit to belittle others’ opinions.

Housecaptain has been following the Lichties since Ned Doig was a lad but if he’s not at every single game home and away then he has no right to criticise.

  13. As I live in Aberdeen and have done for 40 years, every game I go to (bar Cove last season) is an away game.

Life - being self employed and family commitments (2 teenage boys) means I can’t travel to as many away games as I would like to. Also not prepared to spend even more of my hard earned on watching the kind of football we’ve been served up for the last 2 seasons.

  14. Having seen us relegated several times over the years, this one is definitely the least sad for me. I have a feeling more of relief than anything really.

We all have our own opinions as to why we’ve ended up here and on McIntyre so I won’t go into that.

Our stay in the Championship has been some experience. I have many more positive feelings about it than negative and the club is definitely in a much better place now than it was 5-6 years ago.

The last 18+ months has been pretty miserable and I’m well aware that it’s dragged my own personal posting style down to a level of negativity that I’m not comfortable with.

Here’s to a new season full of new teams to play, better football, and hopefully many more wins and enjoyable games.

I think a lot of posters on this thread are underestimating League 1. I don’t think many of our players will be outstanding in L1.

Agree. I have a feeling that we’re no better than a poor L1 side at the moment. We could have a L1 next season with teams like Montrose, Accies, Alloa, Kelty, Stenny etc. Anyone who thinks we can just brush teams like that aside is deluded.

Even if all of our top, out of contract players re-sign that doesn’t mean much unless McIntyre suddenly shows us something that he hasn’t yet…. I won’t hold my breath.

Obviously hope for a brilliant title winning season but next season should be primarily about steadying the ship and building a solid squad imo. Give me a safe, no drama mid table finish and I'll be happy.

  16. You forgot Toyosi Olusanya - now there’s a weird one. Utterly hopeless for us, spent most of his, limited time on the pitch for us falling on his arse. Now doing a reasonable job for 5th place Premiership St Mirren.

He was on loan but still, another name to add to the poop list.

I'd like to imagine it will be civil.  Surely nobody is going to go to one of these things with the intention of acting the arsehole.

I dread to think how many death threats will be made…. Also hope all attendees wear waterproofs and take umbrellas to protect them from the floods of spit.
