You never know. If his mum is patriotic enough it could have rubbed off on him, would say we have a decent chance.
-
To be fair - surely Gemmell must be telling them to go long? We are pretty small compared to the Danes but keep punting it long? Does Gemmell have to answer to anyone?
-
Do we go long because we are not capable of building from the back? Physically we look like wee boys compared to Denmark, long balls playing right into their hands.

That was close, Rangers got away with that thanks to Big Porto. -

Correct decision. Porteous out of control as usual. He can’t handle the big occasions.- 717 replies

Hickey and Hepburn to Bayern
Mean Gene replied to Carnoustie Young Guvnor's topic in Tartan Army Ramblings
So we have a guy starting in Serie A, who can play with both feet, left back or right back, and people are wanting him in the under 21 squad just to see? Im sorry but if we have a 19 year old holding down a starting position on Serie A, we have duty to nurture that talent and get him in the full squad. What is it he will learn in the under 21 squad? And how can he be ready for Serie A but not ready for the Scottish national team? -

Needs to do his apprenticeship in the under 21’s. Should have a chance of playing when he’s turns 28 and amassed over 200 appearances in Serie A. Taylor and O’Donnell are adequate enough for the time being. -
That’s part of it yes. Patterson could still be playing under 19 football at this moment but looks comfy playing men’s football. SOD is 29 and looks petrified anytime the ball comes near him.
-
I get the game situation. For what it’s worth he started 2 Europa League last 16 games and a 45 mins last 32, scoring with almost his first touch. He didn’t look out of place, physically and ability wise. On top of that he played an entire Old Firm which he coasted. For me, Patterson was not rank defensively, I get he had a few shaky moments but overall his contribution to the game was decent. He provided a genuine option for the midfield to pass to down the right and after a shaky start, generally kept possession of the ball. I could go through about 10 separate incidents where SOD made an absolute c*nt of it, the favourite being where he ballooned the ball back to Gordon trying to play a back pass. The whole defensive thing… for me people only think he’s tremendous because they expect so little from him.
-
What do you base that on with Patterson? I am probably biased, but I believe Patterson is an all round better option than O’Donnell. To me SOD was no where near tremendous. He done as well as he could with the little ability that he has, but he was not tremendous.
-
See to describe him as ‘very good’. This is what I take issue you with. He was probably ‘very good’ by SOD standards. In the grand scheme of things he is a poor footballer who try’s his best. Austrians would have been left bemused at his general ability on the ball.
-
He gave it his all but he is so limited, it’s painful watching him. I would rather the likes of Patterson, Hickey or even the boy from Aberdeen who looked really good for the under 21’s, get a chance to gain experience and get used to international football.
-
What do you mean buddy?
-
Physically and mentally weak.
-
Scott Wright - things just happen when he gets on the ball. Really excited to see him progress under Stevie G.

We have 2 keepers in the under 21 squad playing for premiership sides. Kieran Slicker at Man City and Archie Mair at Norwich. Now is the time to get at-least one of them into the squad.

Why cant we produce top class forwards?

Our league structure and professional set up is a mess. It’s geared towards financial survival at all costs. The football played is a totally different brand to that played across most of Europe. Was laughing when St Mirren, a club who seem to be heading in the correct direction signed that hatchet man centre mid with the beard from Kilmarnock. Says it all. For me, if we are serious about change, improve standard of player, athleticism and tactical awareness, there has to be something radical put in place. Cut the professional set up to 2 x leagues of 16 teams, scrap the Sky money, financial fair play, Colts teams allowed in lower semi professional leagues, minimum standard of facility, coaches, academy etc. At the moment everything is geared towards looking after your own interests, and not the overall good of Scottish football.- 120 replies

The O’Donnell back heel out the park in the first minute and then his tackle on Christie summed it up. Classic. Plenty effort but too much route one football and players who still look really uncomfortable with a ball at their feet.
-
What are you getting at?
-
Your right buddy, just shoe horn Considine in instead and it will all be alright on the night! If you can’t see Paterson's better than O’Donnell and any other right back we have already then your pretty clueless at football?

Do not play Tierney, Robertson, Mcginn, Mctominay, Adams and Fraser. No injuries to these players please.
