The Ayrshire derby
North British replied to deadasdillinger's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
So it’s time , Killie away ! Looking forward to it . We’ve been the underdogs going into this tie since the nineties . Never been bothered by that and if we only take a 1,000 up on Wednesday won’t be bothered by that either ! Bring it on let’s see what they’ve got . -

It’s stating the obvious but two games against QoS are massive , win both of those and it’s unlikely that we would finish below Queens . As everyone has already said we need to find a way of playing two forwards . Ashford leads the line well and would be a perfect fit for a partnership with Tomi . Hopefully we can get a 442 on the field before it’s too late . -

RIP Alex (Dixie) Ingram . A club legend who lit up the SRE and The Raiway End in his two spells with us . Fearless would be an understatement. . Blasted centre half’s twice his size , goal keepers as well . Many of whom were Scottish Internationals and or Lisbon Lions . One of his favourite victims was Billy McNeil , defending corners at Somerset became one of Billy’s least favourite jobs . Used to love the panic on defenders faces as Dixie came piling into them on the six yard line at full tilt . Dixie gave no quarter and didn’t expect any either , many a time getting his head stitched at the pitch side , telling the doctor to hurray it up .....I doubt we’ll ever see the like again . Hopefully we can show our respects on Saturday..... -

Agree with this , Ashfield looks mobile and would be able to run the channels while Tomi would fix their centre half’s . Thistle’s defence is their weakest area , it would be mad to not have a pop ! -

Never said we were pal . Calm your jets . Just putting some names up for a bit of debate . Another Londoner would be my 4/6 favourite . -

Odd signing after giving Houston a new deal . City will expect this boy to get game time so either Houston will be used sparingly or Aero/Fjortoft are moving on . Interesting . So who’s it doing to be for DCM ? Liam Craig , Iain Wilson , Alex Gogic or a bolter from London again .?. -

It’ll take two summer windows to sort this mess out completely. This is the off field team Smith has assembled . We’ll be sticking with them for that time frame at least . You are correct about an on the pitch leader , we really do need one of those , perhaps somebody more local that knows the ins and outs of the league etc . -

I think Bully is our guy . Long term planning is a hallmark of our Chairman. This move was all supposed to happen in the summer, where Bully would have had a blank canvas and a good few quid to get us sorted out . However the Duffy shambles at Palmerston made sure plans had to be brought forward by six months . I feel we are going to stick with Bully no matter what league we are in next season . I am hugely optimistic about this appointment . -

Hopefully both the new London boys start today and we have a proper crack at Hamilton. We’ve already beaten them twice up there , so no point going up looking for a draw . Two big guys up from reminds me of the old McCall and Masterton days ! Used to run smoke in the Premier back then .... Interesting who else will be joining us , will it be Comely and Appere or is there another mystery signing turning up ? -

I figured if we managed to get Chalmers out the door we’d struggle to convince an Airdrie or a Kelty but enter the Pars ! Mind blowing move by Dunfermline, . -

So here we are (if my count is correct) with 15 games to go . Six home games and nine away . Wow that is a tough run in . If we are only bringing in only one or two on top of .Gandoh they had better be decent and they better be motivated . In short we need Drinan’s and Doohan’s rather than Anderson’s and Afalabi’s . Hopefully our recent history of brining guys up from England and getting performances out of them will continue . So let’s try and be positive about the high possibility of Ben Dempsey coming in next week . Apparently he’s the holding midfielder we’ve been waiting on . This one move will get Aero back to his best position and probably McGinty out the team . Rumours are there is a second loan coming up from England , forward ? Or another midfielder ? Dunno . Either would be welcome . So Accies away on Saturday on 4G . Must give O’Conner 90 mins , same for Tomi regardless of any alleged strop ! Tomi and his goals might just be the key to our survival . Actually tempted to stick Gondoh up top with him for an hour . Murdoch and the new boy in the centre and Maxwell on the other flank if need be . Three points on Saturday would be massive .... so all aboard , it’s going to be bumpy and games will run our pretty quick ..... -

Yup noticed him . Never gave it a thought at the time though .... -
Fair play to St Mirren , the best team won . Saints were stronger , cleverer and just better in every position .The Saints fan’s filled the Railway end and made it a proper Scottish Cup spectacle . Good luck to them in the next round . Some Ayr fans on here bragging about staying away in a kind of I told you so manner . Not really sure how to respond to that , so I’ll just let it float . It didn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that St Mirren were the best bet on the coupon at 7/5 . I guess I’m a glutton for punishment, turning up knowing full well Ayr this season are shit . Never mind back to the battle of the drop .....

It is what it is fellas . We are a bang average Championship team with some young players who need time , some over the hill pro’s , some duds and a couple who might just have some stardust if we can be brave and play them regularly . We all know we need players in and pronto , only a week left in the window . The Liam Craig debacle was on a par with the Toderov debacle in the summer . We need to push on with plan B and get players in . Two players coming up from England on loan was the craic on the NorthBank today , hope so . A proper centre half and a striker plus two midfielders would be great . The next three games are crucial to our season . Can’t lose any of them . -

So Tomi May remain free of being cup tied ? Can’t help but to be very suspicious about that . In other news Zak Rudden signed a pre contract with Dundee . Jobby will be furious. -

Was that the one where Bobby Conner scored on his debut for his second spell with us ? -
Off the ones you mentioned I’d say The Brig is the best . The other three are pretty basic but should be ok if filled with Saints fans . Five minutes down the river is the Ship Inn which is very decent . Also if you cross the old brig and hang left onto the high street you’ll find Tam O’Shanters , a wee gem of a place with a big outside area . Thistle fans make it their home , only five minutes from the train station ...Christina’s is another , just off the high street , behind Boots . Again five minutes from the station .

I remember way back in the day when St Mirren got promoted up to join Ayr in the SPL . You guys became our derby fixture due to the filthy unwashed being in the old first division . Four great games against St Mirren , I think we won two a piece . Remember a 3-2 win at Somerset on Brian McLaughlin’s debut and another victory at Love Street on New Year’s Day .. can’t remember much about the two that Saints won , but that is often the case . Good luck tomorrow Jimmy Boo ....
