  1. Airdrie 1-2 Dundee United Arbroath 0-1 Queen’s Park Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness Morton 2-2 Raith Partick Thistle 1-1 Ayr
  2. Looked like a back five to me yesterday until the subs, albeit a much more attacking version with McGregor at wing back. It was odd, at goal kicks we set up in a diamond with McGregor at the tip then in possession changed to a 3-5-2 with him moving out wide, Megwa moving in and Hancock bombing forward. Milne and Fitzpatrick is possibly the best left side in the league so it's a tough shift for any wing back but especially so for someone like McGregor. As you say, Ballantyne back in there with Megwa out wide gives us better balance there and a much more solid base.
  3. I think you’ll definitely get your wish here. After today it’s pretty unlikely we’ll finish 3rd anyway and I expect like the last couple of seasons that we’ll heavily rotate in the last game. Might not be an entire reserve team but would expect Telfer, Frizzell, Todorov etc to be rested. I’ll still be predicting a 1-1 draw as always though.
  4. I’d heard McStravick done his ACL, which would obviously keep him out for a long time. Real shame if true, as he was just properly coming onto a game over the last couple of months.
  5. Really poor performance in that second half but play-offs confirmed anyway thankfully. I really enjoyed the first half, very even with two decent sides creating chances. The reaction to conceding the first goal was a concern though, heads down and lots of panicking after that with Thistle running over the top of us. I don’t want to single out people but McMaster summed it up, decent performance in the first half, moved the ball well and had another good shot but had a few really slack passes towards the end, which is unlike him. Hopefully just a reality check after the excitement of the last few weeks. Our last four games before the play-offs last season were a draw at home to 9 man Dunfermline, conceding a late equaliser at Falkirk, a dreadful defeat at home to Queen of the South and the reserves winning at Edinburgh, only for us to put in possibly the best half of football I’ve seen from an Airdrie team in the first play-off game. If we can get Frizzell and Ballantyne back fit for them then I’ll be more confident.
  6. Nice for Frizzell to make the PFA team of the year for the third year in a row. Always find these teams quite interesting, I think most fans would say he’s done well but with Telfer having the better season. Surprised Megwa never made it in too but can see why players would vote for McMillan.
  7. We went into the last day level on points with Alloa last season and could have finished 3rd or 4th but still changed the team a fair bit as you say, so I think McCabe would do the same again.
  8. Inverness 1-1 Raith Rovers Arbroath 1-2 Morton Dundee United 2-0 Ayr Dunfermline 1-1 Queen's Park Partick Thistle 1-1 Airdrie
  9. I started going in 2003, so old enough to have seen some very good Airdrie players but significantly more rubbish ones!
  10. Can’t say I was arsed at all about finding out the news via Arbroath but good statement from the club on Calum Gallagher. Glad his time at the club will be recognised with being inducted into the hall of fame. We barely had anyone of note in the 2010s, just a blur of mediocrity, but we’ve had plenty of guys we’ll all look fondly on since then as well as true modern day legends like Gallagher and Fordyce.
  11. That’s as good a signing as Arbroath could make for League One. I wouldn’t say he’s a particularly brilliant finisher but very intelligent, great movement in the box and has developed into a great all round striker. I’ve written a big post in the Airdrie thread so won’t repeat myself too much but Stewart and Gallagher is a great start to rebuilding this Arbroath team for League One. He’s based in Glasgow so I did wonder if he’d go to a club nearby but despite the malaise around the club and McIntyre just now, it bodes well that he’s keen to sign there.
  12. My all time favourite Airdrie player. I still think his contribution over the last five years is underrated by some, every part-time club would kill for a reliable goalscorer and he’s as good as you’ll get at League One level. It’s telling that he’s off to the biggest part-time team in the country. He has hit his ceiling this season and it feels like a natural endpoint for both parties but I wish him all the best. Others have mentioned it but that goal at Falkirk was sensational and felt like the start of the upward trajectory we’ve been on since then. His overall game has improved loads since he joined too, going from a penalty box striker with great movement to a really solid all round striker who can drop deep and link play. Even his yearly miss from a yard out was quite comical given he scored more than enough to make up for it. I think he scored with each thigh in play-offs against Cove and Montrose too I’m glad this has been announced before the end of the season as he deserves a good send off whenever his last game is. A true modern day Airdrie great.
  13. Interesting looking back at the league table after the defeat at Cappielow, only seven weeks ago. Albeit with a game in hand but we’ve gained 10 points on Partick Thistle and a remarkable 18 on Morton since then. Queen’s Park are an interesting one too. After the draw last month it felt like both teams were in a fairly similar position but where we’ve pushed on and have now all but confirmed promotion play-offs, they’ve barely picked up any points since then.
  14. Finishing third would likely give us an away game on the Tuesday night, wouldn’t it? That’s as good an incentive as any to finish higher up the league.
  15. Happy for people to crowdfund a trip away for me next month if this is what happens.
  16. He was in our end at the November game too. Must be a good Airdrie man.
  17. Think that’s still the most fun I’ve had at a game. Second half started with in theory a 2-4-4 with Watson and Frizzell as a marauding wing backs and a robust central midfield of Agnew sitting deep and Easton doing whatever he wanted. When Afolabi came on it was just vibes, literally about five up front, Fordyce winning second balls in midfield, McCabe sometimes at the back on his own, Callum Smith covering the full pitch.
  18. Morton 0-2 Dundee United Airdrie 1-1 Dunfermline Ayr 1-0 Arbroath Queen’s Park 1-1 Inverness Raith 2-2 Partick Thistle
  19. Obviously you still need to score them but almost all of those Dowds goals have came from really poor defending at set-pieces or (generally Watson) overplaying and literally gifting him the ball in front of goal. That’s something we don’t seem to do against Raith for whatever reason, simply being organised, keeping things simple at the back and knowing how to defend against the plethora of attackers has been very effective. We’ve improved at it recently but the big thing with this Airdrie team is that they often struggle when they concede first, with the reverse if we get the first goal. Obviously Raith did manage to do that in the 1-1 draw but every other time Airdrie have got the first goal and have been pretty comfortable in most of those games too.
  20. So much fun isn’t it? Especially these away trips on a Tuesday night.
  21. To an extent yeah, 20/21 was just a ridiculously tired team with loads of injuries. 21/22 was a season we really should have went up but Murray completely ran out of ideas in the final. His last Airdrie team were flat-track bullies really, hammered everyone below them but couldn’t get over the line in the big games. It’s interesting that Murray has actually managed to do that against Dundee United twice this season (albeit against a very limited manager) but has really struggled against managers who are better tactically.
  22. Murray built the spine of that team to be fair, we wouldn’t be where we are without the groundwork he put in. McCabe has undoubtedly taken us to the next level though, literally and figuratively. Murray is very good at incrementally improving teams and making things much more professional but (while this could come back to bite me) McCabe is well ahead of him tactically.
  23. Hutton is a good shout. Quite funny how he seems to be disliked by fans of most of his previous clubs too, which probably adds to it. Prunty is just a hero. Important that when McCabe inevitably moves on we keep Prunty around in some form.
  24. It was more ironic given he was guff up until then but I’ll remember those three weeks where Afolabi had a song, continued to be rubbish and then turned into prime Olivier Giroud in the play-offs for a long time.
