The Atalanta drubbing at Anfiled was then beginning of the end for them this season and it’s just tedious viewing now.

They’ve conceded first in far too many games all season but the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford was the beginning of a disastrous spell of not being able to take numerous chances and poor defending.

Jota’s injury at Brentford in a 4-1 win proved to be very costly as with Salah away to AFCON he had brilliantly filled that void. Mo seems to have come back from that injury a yard slower and only a proper pre-season and getting trust back in his hamstring can save his top level career.

Not very random but my season ticket doesn't do much work these days. Anyhoo, a superb evening in the Sneck and a fine opporchancity for fetching out the drone.

    1. What a shame for Big Dunc.

If intentional, I appreciate the little background touches in your shots.  The Seaforth Docks end of that freight line loomed large over yesterday's pre-match walk on Crosby Beach.  If not, still great photos.

Was my - pretty amateur lol - attempts at getting a background in at what is really just a collection of pitches @Red Kite. Was lucky with that train coming past at the right time !

  4. Earlston Rhymers 5-5 Chirnside (3-2 HT) @ Gordon Community Sports Field 🌱. Border Amateur Division A. Incredible game which ended 10 v 9 all for 2 yellows 🟡🔴. The visitors came back from 4-2 down to lead 5-4 before Earlston equalised with an injury time free kick 🚀. Crowd 64.

It’s the case for their entire squad tbh. Probably not quite as much this season but they’ve always heavily prioritised the starting XI at the cost of having a bench full of jobbers for most of Klopp’s time there. No excuse for a club like Liverpool to have such substandard backups.

If that’s the way they want to go then fair enough but it makes his whining about the number of games his players are “forced” to play intolerable. He doesn’t rotate because he’s made the choice to have a shite second team.

Trying to operate within FFP / keep players happy etc with players less involved needing to accept that making it tricky.

I’d argue his squad depth has never been better especially with 3/4 talented kids making the step up. Then again 4 years ago his squad won the Premier League with 7 games to go and 2 years ago managed every game possible across all 4 competitions.

The peak decade of the EPL for me was around 1992-2002.

Some of the players during that time across so many clubs were absolutely incredible.

Zola, Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Beckham, Giggs, Van Nistelroy, Ronaldo, Scholes, Yorke, Collymore, Fowler, Owen, Shearer. The list goes on.

The Arsenal of that period I believe would piss all over today’s squad.

Same with Manchester United. Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Chelsea, Villa, Blackburn and even Everton all had significant quality.

Even teams like Sheffield Wednesday had Di Canio and Carbone.

I think that period was certainly more competitive across the league. Plus the FA cup still had status in the game.

Now it’s just an afterthought as a tournament.

I’m not so sure - there has been an English team in the Champions League final in 5 of the last 6 seasons - 2 in 2021 and 3 different winners.

Man City and Liverpool have posted points totals never seen in English football before.

I would also argue the FA Cup has regained status. The League Cup certainly has.

Need a secondary punishment for handballs like that. An indirect freekick or something.

Yes, its handball but its beyond harsh that leads to a potential game changing moment.

    Punishment not fitting the crime.

I’ve thought this for years. A free shot from 12 yards doesn’t fit the crime half the time.

That Kelleher is nothing but a bog standard jobber who should be nowhere near a big club.  He's ropey as f**k for South Ireland too.

Kelleher has done very well to be fair to him and has now played most games in goal for Liverpool this season. He’s not quite Alisson but then who is?

A bit of a sore one last night. Perhaps it had been coming continually misfiring in the final third and conceding poor goals. Had been thinking it was just a matter of time before things clicked in a positive manner. Atalanta and their fans were excellent.

Need a reaction on Sunday now against Palace and then worry about the 2nd leg in Bergamo.

For a usually opinionated gobsh*te,  I honestly have no opinion on who should succeed Klopp.  I had no idea he'd be off so never thought about it.   However, I have bizarrely been to watch Amorim's old club Casa Pia and can't work out if it was when he was boss.  Parts of Lisbon, like Belem, reminded me of Liverpool so the lure of the Dock Road may sway him.

You needed to have an 11 year old who asked on a near daily basis who would take over after Klopp 🤣

My answer was usually Xabi Alonso or Pep Lijinders but like you I certainly didn’t see it coming so soon. Was hoping for at least one more contract renewal beyond 2026.

A point better off than Saturday morning.

Now that this points deduction saga and uncertainty is finally over - it's over 12 months since it began - maybe there will be a bit more positivity about the place.

Over … until the potential third points deduction which could come after the final game.

    It’s best not to cheat.

Man City have the best fixtures except Spurs away which is always tough for them. Don’t think Arsenal will beat Man Utd at old Trafford.

I can’t see anyone getting full points from their remaining games which we have seen in previous years so it’s quite exciting.

    IMG_9742.png

Arsenal’s (short) trip to Spurs looks their most difficult.

Liverpools cause would maybe be helped by a bruising 2 legged Champions League semi between the other 2.

Manchester United being absolute dug shit and still fucking over the scousers in two different competitions is very, very funny.

The “Jurgen Klopp no cup farewell tour” still alive and well. Lovely

Guess it’s a good thing he’s already added another cup to his already complete collection.

How Liverpool almost managed to contrive to lose that today almost defies belief.

We all know what happened in the FA Cup but it’s been a bit of a familiar tale in the bigger games this season. Certainly Man United home and away, Arsenal home and Man City home should have all have beaten.

Jota, Alexander Arnold and Alisson coming back are going to be crucial particularly looking ahead to 3 away games - Fulham / Everton / West Ham - in either 6 or 7 days.

  13. Bonnyrigg Rose 2-2 Peterhead (1-0 HT) @ New Dundas Park 🌱. 3pm. Somehow this went ahead despite all the rain 💦 & wind 💨. The Rose looked to have won it 🚀 but the visitors equalised deep into stoppage time. A vital point each at opposite ends of cinch SPFL League 2. Crowd 625.

Thought i'd chance my luck this morning on the sale date of Atalanta tickets for their away game at Liverpool next Thursday. After a slight hitch, where it said i was ineligible to buy (i had told the truth and entered my UK passport details and place of birth as Scotland), i simply picked a place of birth in Italy from a drop down menu and using the same genuine UK passport number was the proud owner of a ticket!

Staggered it was that easy, looking forward to being in an away end with some mental Italian ultras, hope they don't beat me up!

  15. Edinburgh City 0-1 University of Stirling (0-0 HT) @ Meadowbank Stadium 🌱. East of Scotland Cup 🏆 Final. 8pm. Great game in awful weather 💦. City made to pay for a number of missed chances as Stirling grabbed what proved to be the winner 17 minutes from time. Crowd around 425.
