He’s actually tiny, this photo is deceiving. Incredibly managed to get a photo of him in a rare moment of being awake.

Most famous person you've ever met
Academically Deficient replied to scottsdad's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
We had a conversation. I doubt it lingered long in his memory. scene: Belgravia, mid 90s. Outside a very fancy hotel. Me: f**k. It’s David Bowie. Bowie looks over. Hears Scottish accent. Smiles in a resigned manner. My pal: you look the way we feel, David. You had a few last night as well? Bowie: no lads, this is as good as it for me these days, then sort of chuckled. Further pleasantries exchanged and we went on our way. Think me and my pal were going for a few beers in Soho after that so keen to be on our way. Not exactly Peter Ustinov meets Bertrand Russell but there you go. -
Most famous person you've ever met

David Bowie. In London. I was a bit hungover and didn’t recognise him at first. Shorter than I had imagined. Beautifully dressed. He was supervising a minion humphing expensive looking luggage into a blacked out limo (not a euphemism). -
Totally relate to the bit about admin. People don’t realise how draining it is to phone multiple banks, insurance companies, council etc etc with the same script: I’m phoning because my dad/mum/husband is dead. Just awful.

Who was the UK’s last decent PM?
Academically Deficient replied to Brother Blades's topic in The Politics Forum
I was born when Harold Wilson was PM. It’s been downhill all the way, picked up speed with Thatcher, and again since 2010. Hopefully Truss will be the last -
Great singer. Love her voice.

I recall an anecdote about the late Rev. Paisley speaking to a new MP at Westminster (could have been an SDLP representative) along the lines of “I know it’s great to be elected here, just remember these people don’t give a damn about you or the people you represent” He knew because that’s how he felt as well. I suspect some Tories like Mundell know this but don’t care for financial reasons. Others like Bowie are still at the early stage of delusion.

Good post. The part that jumped out was that the Tories see Scotland as a lost cause (think they realised this a while ago). Labour may well feel the same - assuming they had the humility to understand that. What is the logical conclusion of the main UK parties being incapable of winning seats in Scotland and only focussing on English voters? I’d like to think that an amicable divorce settlement would be the end-point, but neither party will ever concede that.

Where did you get the guitar holder rack? Good way of displaying/keeping them off the floor

2022/23 SLC Group H
Academically Deficient replied to RossBFaeDundee's topic in Domestic Cup Football
This is correct. Hamilton Academical is a strictly cash-only business. Used notes preferably. The reasons why this is the case in 2022 are not discussed in polite society. -
Motherwell: European Vacation 2022
Academically Deficient replied to Swello's topic in Scots in Europe
To be fair to the young fella, he doesn’t really film during the actual games. His content is more about build-up to games, stadiums and club history etc. He is about the only one of those “content creators” who is worth watching. I enjoy his stuff. -
Motherwell: European Vacation 2022

What’s the story with the wee Footy Adventures YouTube guy? Seems he got hunted out of Fir Park last night. Normally people are pleased to see him, although he’s a total Jonah when he films at Douglas Park. Anyway, still a 2nd leg to go. -
Similar level of intensity. Like they have personally offended him.

True. But the horrifying thing is he’s not even the worst on the channel. The truly appalling Dan Wooton (formerly showbiz gossip monger for the S** and celebrity shit stirrer on “Lorraine”) has his own 2 hour show!! His pathological hatred of Scotland’s FM is chilling/hilarious depending on how many drinks I’ve had.

I know I’ve only me to blame, but occasionally watch GBNews just to annoy myself. Tonight Farage extended the “once in a generation” lie to “a lifetime”. To a live audience of gammons who seemed keen for us to have another referendum to get shot of us. Feel the love, Scotland. Feel the love.

New kits 22-23
Academically Deficient replied to GiGi's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Every year I half expect them to go back to the vertical stripes and black shorts, or the “Sunderland strip”, which wouldn’t be good. I like both of these. -
Wise. Although it was impossible to get Dickies record on black vinyl. If anybody has one, it's probably worth more than the coloured ones. At least 50p. The Stranglers pink ep had specially "lumps" on the vinyl which I remember being impressed by for some reason.

I didn't buy them in the early 80s cos they were just a marketing gimmick to get you to pay more money for the same thing, like picture discs. Apart from A Promise by the Bunnymen cos the cover was so good. Then someone (Factory?) realised you could use the extra playing time creatively. My favourite was the New York mix of This Charming Man by The Smiths, which the band hated apparently. I think I sold it to get money for fags. Thatcher's Britain right there, kids.

Bump. The Baroness was on GMTV this morning, trying out her new persona as liberal, alternative Tory commentator for the early risers. The common sense voice of middle North Britain. Scottish, but the smiley kind with a media-friendly accent. 3 Lions etc... I dont think in my lifetime I've ever seen a politician get such an easy time from the media.

Euro 2020 Final - England vs Italy
Academically Deficient replied to smpar's topic in Pie and Bovril Gold
The ironically named Claudio Gentile comes to mind. If there was an algorithm for most influential player with fewest touches of the ball, it would be him. Of course he touched plenty of other things, but always out of the the referee's sight. -
New Kits 2021/2022
Academically Deficient replied to Ludo*1's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Oops forgot about that kit. I've still got the 90s Inter one. Almost still fits in some places. But I can't cope with Accies in the old Hamilton Grammar colours.
