This is the best I've seen Cammy Kerr playing for a while. Don't think there is much doubt that this is his level but he's been good tonight.

10 years ago today Parquet Courts released the greatest indie rock album of the 21st century. It sounds as good today as it did then.

A hard fought 3-1 win for Fed tonight over a vastly improved Downfield side who appear to have ditched their MMA tactics of old for actual football. Still this was a game that teetered on the edge and was one or two bad tackles away from kicking off completely. I entered the ground just as the game started to the sound of drums, an absolute no-no as far as I'm concerned at the fitba, but was pleased to see that it was just 6 or 7 mini Downfield ultras who had procured a traffic cone and a stick which they nonetheless proceeded to hammer with gusto for the next 90 minutes. I know things are bad down that end of town, but I couldn't help but feel sorry for their depravation. Maybe we'll donate the takings of the next half time draw so they can upgrade to at least whatever it is the funny little St. Johnstone neds have got. On second thoughts. So, a lovely late summer's night under the floodlights and a good win to keep us in touch with Carnoustie. Downfield were decent and will take points off some more fancied teams this season. We seem to have got rid of that soft underbelly that we have shown recently and I suppose it's up to the team to show that they can do this on a regular basis. Mental result up at Thomson Park.

A good year for Animal Collective enthusiasts. "Time Skiffs" released in the first few weeks of the year remains one of the year's best and comfortably their best studio album since "Merriweather..." Now the 12th August sees the release of "Reset" by Panda Bear ably assisted by the legend that is Sonic Boom. There's only been two tracks released off it so far but both are fantastic, especially the mesmeric "Edge Of The Edge" which would easily find a home on the classic "Person Pitch" album. After the frankly dull "...Meets The Grim Reaper" and "Buoys", "Reset" is hinting at something more akin to the aforementioned "Person Pitch" or "Tomboy". One can only hope.

Very comfortable win for Broughty today against a poor Forfar Utd. Had Skelly been playing it would have been double figures. Sadly for us, he looks like he might be out for another lengthy spell. Should be a good game v Kirrie this midweek up at their place. They have had a decent start to the season. Interesting to see our ex-manager Jamie McCunnie reffing today's game. Very easy game for him with no controversial moments whatsoever.

The singer of some almighty good songs. "Georgy Girl", "I'll Never Find Another You" and "The Carnival Is Over" to name but three. Bad year for the Aussies. First Warney, now this.

Ryan Adams is a bit of an arse. I met Whiskeytown after their gig at the Cathouse in 1998 and they couldn't have been nicer apart from Ryan who played the tortured soul for all he was worth, staring at the wall and running his hands through his hair in that annoying Ricky Ross manner. Anyway, you can't really argue with "Strangers Almanac", it's an absolute gem give or take a few bum steers. Never again did he come even half close to recreating it's greatness as a solo artist.

The Sadies are a mighty fine band for the uninitiated. Sadly they lost one of their founding members and a shit kicking 12 string guitar player a couple of months back. So here is Dallas Good and the rest of the Good ol' boys on fine form with a diamond tune from their 13th album "Darker Circles". Alongside "DC", I'd highly recommend "Favourite Colours" and "Northern Passages" from their weighty back catalogue.

I was a fair distance away but I didn't have too many complaints regarding the penalty. Maybe it was just the disappointment. At that point of the game they were not even nearly worth a draw. Skelly is indeed injured. Losing a striker who hits 70 goals in the season is always going to be tough. Thankfully, he should be back for East Craigie on Saturday. Yer mates goal was an absolute screamer and came at a time when we were beginning to look quite comfortable.

I cannot believe we managed to lose that game last night. We were far better in every department. Some absolutely bizarre officiating saw us down to 10 when they should have been down to 9. Many of the same tactics on display from Panmure as last season. I will try to take the the positives out of it and come to the conclusion that we will win far more than we lose against the teams around us towards the top of the table this season. Lots to be encouraged by. We will do much better this season playing like that. Onwards and upwards.

If the will is there, then I don't think Broughty can be all that far away from getting licensed. The will has got to be there though. I just hope everyone's on board.

This was amongst a wee pile of records that was waiting for me when I got home from hospital last time. It's by Zake and the album is a little beauty.

This thread could have been closed after the first post. Uncle Tup are so far ahead of the rest that I feel bad for everybody else. There are very few other records come close to their back cat. The first 3 Son Volt records are big favourites of mine. I'm way more Son Volt than Wilco. The first Sparklehorse album is a tick for me as is "Stranger's Almanac"and "Spoke" by Whiskeytown and Calexico. Off the beaten track a bit, I would recommend "Country Gazette" by World Standard or going back a bit (1978), Robbie Basho's "Visions Of The Country" album as two that may not have been heard as much but definitely deserve to be.

We looked a lot better than last season even without the injured goal machine Josh Skelly and I have to say Tayport looked a little bit poorer but early days and all that. A harder test to come against Carnoustie in midweek. Saw this on the Lochee Utd twatter page. Raised a smile.

New Black Midi is out this week and true to form is a hotchpotch of insanity. The usual mixture of Zappa, Mahavishnu with extra Andrew Lloyd Webber this time. For me it's the least arresting of the 3 so far but, you know, 2 listens is never enough to formulate an opinion. Still some marvellous stuff going on "Sugar/Tzu" , "Eat Men Eat" and "Still" come to mind straight off. Bits of it are pushing my prog buttons just a bit too much though. We'll see how it survives the rest of the year.

It only seems to have ended about 20 minutes ago but here we are with a new season upon us, raring to go next Saturday. Tayport, Carnoustie and East Craigie in the first 3 weeks will certainly show us where we are. Currently, I have absolutely no idea about what's going on at the club having spent a chunk of the summer in hospital but as always at this time of year, I am full of confidence and optimism. If that can be sustained for more than 3 or 4 weeks this time out then that will be a bonus. From what I saw at the tail end of last season we need 4 or 5 players to be challenging up top. Hopeful of getting to a few more games this season (health permitting). Mon the Fed.

I've been tucked up in hospital for a week so apologies if this has already been mentioned somewhere else but a mate of mine close to the band has just told me that one of Scotland's finest bands from the 90's, The Delgados, have announced that they are getting back together. Not sure if there is new music on the way but certainly there is a gig at the Barras in the offing. If ever a band deserved to make a happy buck from their not inconsiderable back catalogue then it is undoubtedly the best thing to come out of Motherwell since, well....mmm, I'm not sure. They never really really made a bad record and whilst I can understand lots of folk being all over "The Great Eastern", I have a very soft spot for "Domestiques."

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm still hanging in there but I don't post much anymore. I'm quite ill now but determined to keep going. Made it to Scotland v Ukraine game and Parquet Courts gig in Glasgow a few weeks back. Try to get out for a wander round the block with the missus most days but it's tough. Still fighting though. The debut album by Horsegirl, "Versions Of Modern Performance" came out this week. Very much wears its early 90's influences on its sleeves - Sonic Youth, Breeders, Yo La Tengo. Initially, I was pretty disappointed by it. I still don't think there is a song on it as good as "Sea Life Sandwich Boy" from the first single and my favourite song on it is second single "Billy", but it is a grower. Enjoying it more with each listen but it is perhaps a stepping stone to something better rather than the AOTY contender I had hoped for. 7/10, maybe 8 in a few months.

Yet another outstanding match in the MLS between Atlanta and New England finishes 2-2. Roll on Seattle v Minnesota in 20 minutes.

They have had great tracks right through their career but it has been ever diminishing returns for many years. I enjoyed bits of "Girls in Peacetime...", personally I thought it was their best studio album since "The Boy With The Arab Strap". There's only a handful of really standout tracks on the likes of "Fold Your Hands.." (I Fought In A War & The Model), "Write About Love" (I Didn't See It Coming), "The Life Pursuit" (Another Sunny Day) and "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" (erm.....), but this new one seems to be setting a new low bar. I'll give it another go another day.
