  1. The great Irish writer (and drunk) Flann O'Brien created a phrase that perfectly describes the modern St Patrick's Day: "A virulent eruption of Paddyism." At least the plain people of Ireland get a Bank Holiday to recover, what do the other celebrants do?
  2. Are people seriously suggesting that Kate has pegged out?
  3. So he's not a cat - he's a Belted Galloway.
  4. Decent commentary on Gaza by the much-derided Owen Jones. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/feb/29/britain-israel-war-palestinians-gaza
  5. "The unexamined life is not worth living." - Socrates. Take that, Ms Gilruth.
  6. I think it may be the club that has "anger" at its very heart.
  7. Horace and Daphne. What were Maw and Paw thinking? I'll be surprised if Horace survives adolescence.
  8. Adopted Hale as stage name (originally Hole), thereby depriving you insensitive fuckers of innumerable graveyard "cracks", so to speak. I hope this meant that the family name died out.
  9. I know he can be a bit robust in expressing his opinions on here, but this is an unexpected revelation. As well as claims he was attacked with a Stanley knife, machetes and a hammer, the letters “VT”, “YT” or “YLT” were also allegedly left on his head with a blowtorch.
  10. When the thread "highly talented individuals against whom you harbour an irrational dislike" materialises, this comment will be valid. The guy is an extremely successful actor, director and screenwriter who has achieved international recognition. As for your view on Sunset Song, while entitled to an opinion, I'm afraid you have chosen the wrong one.
  11. Precedent set in the case of Charlie Elphicke. Very strange pattern of behaviour.
  12. Two cheers for integrity, but his constituency is disappearing and he is returning to academia.
  13. Only if it time-travelled back two years.
  14. Excellent thread with the results curated in a very informative and informed manner. However, I can only surmise that access to Deadwood was restricted, otherwise it would surely have ranked highly. Al Swearengen would have some choice words to say about these results. Much better entertainment than Palace vs Everton.
  15. I want to deviate from the consensus here. The guy wouldn't pass up the chance to score, he hadn't overrun the ball and yet he went down. Either the minimal contact with the keeper was enough for him to trip or he tripped himself. All other speculation as to his motivation is clearly based on his lack of physical beauty.
  16. They're right in this relatively inconsequential matter, but wrong in everything else.
  17. World famous actor promotes the quality of mechanically-retrieved meat encased in pastry. More convincing than his acting in "The Irishman".
  18. That's one of the nicest and most poignant posts I've read on this forum. Your mum raised a good boy.
  19. But you'll be inundated by junior doctors from England.* Neither of these things will happen.
  20. Sorry, Ms Yang. But you shouldn't have married Mr Yin.
  21. Good enough for Paul Simon, good enough for Dundonians.
  22. Early in the interview Barrowman says: They must have been satisfied in the end to have awarded the contract," However, the last word sounds like con-trick before he speaks it clearly. We can't fool our subconscious mind.
  23. Joey doesn't appear to comply with the "P" element of WASP. That's further evidence of his victimisation and exclusion.
  24. Legendary rugby union commentator, Bill McLaren, claimed that: "A day out of Hawick is a day wasted." Maybe he was wasted when he said that.
