I don't really get this at all. The fact that the best 2 teams from the Welsh league compete in a tournament for lower league Scottish teams and don't win the trophy is surely more of a compliment to Scottish football. Goes without saying TNS aren't a great team but they play in the Champions League qualifiers every year, I remember they took Viktoria Plzen to penalties a few years ago.

I was just talking about songs sung about the IRA and Irish independence that I believe is a separate issue and historical topic than the racist songs from the Rangers support. But in my experience there is much much more of an issue with anti-Catholic and anti-Irish racism than any of the anti-protestant variety. But we can agree to disagree there.

It's unpopular in Scotland but imo from the outside this is part of the reason why it doesn't get tackled properly. Songs about the IRA and Irish independence are obviously also sung at games as often as those songs heard at Easter Road. But those songs are a separate issue from the vehement anti Catholic and anti Irish racism we hear every weekend. I think you need to tackle them on their own and in a different way.

2016 Scottish Cup Winners v 2016 Scottish Cup Runners-Up
Buckets replied to Lyle Lanley's topic in Domestic Cup Football
It's long been a stain on Scotland but even in Italy and other countries in Europe, action is now taken against blatant racism. Seems a bare minimum something is done otherwise Scotland will be left behind. -
2016 Scottish Cup Winners v 2016 Scottish Cup Runners-Up

I hope Hibs or someone else is brave enough to ban them from their ground full stop until something changes within their followers. In 2024 surely we should draw a line at allowing their racist bile to be belted out at every ground in the country. -
The Terrible Journalism & Tom English Thread

Tbf it's pretty accurate apart from number 10. St Mirren should probably be there ahead of St Johnstone. -
Tbf I think the officials have overall been pretty good at the tournament getting most of the big decisions right and the pitches have all been fine as well in impressive stadiums. Seen a few goalkeeping errors but not sure you see significantly more at AFCON than you do anywhere else.

Great game, very enjoyable tournament so far. Don't usually see too much about it in the uk media unless its a goalkeeping error or poor referee decision or something else to demean the tournament with.

A club that is known for getting a lot of penalties and not conceding many penalties is kicking up a huge fuss about a penalty decision that didn't matter as it was offside anyway. Not something to take seriously in my book. I see their fans are threatening boycotts, protests and legal action again so we'll see how it all pans out.

I think finishing in the top 12 means that 3rd place in next season's Premiership will have group stage football guaranteed again. Worth about 5-10 million for whoever gets it so must be a big positive for the league.

The Famous Aberdeen’s European Tour 2023/24
Buckets replied to Frank Grimes's topic in Scots in Europe
Aberdeen look uninterested and not even bothered to put in a tackle. This could get embarrassing -
The use of the word "British" in a football sense is so pointless. Why would you compare Scottish teams in Europe to the richest league by far in the world. Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen are on a different planet to the EPL. We should compare ourselves to Austria or Switzerland maybe but not Man City, Arsenal, Man U and others who can spend half a billion.
-
Celtic are a decent side and have competed OK in most CL games but surely their fans would rather the Europa League now where they can actually compete. No point kidding on about making improvements and closing the gap, when you play against the top teams of England, Italy, Spain and Germany you're going to get beat 9 times out of 10.
-
Dropping out of the top 10 but staying in the top 12 looks to be the sweet spot for the coefficient. Keeps the 3rd group stage spot, but stops the league winners going straight into the CL. Would give the league winner the chance to pick up points in qualifying or drop into the Europa groups where they would pick up more points than in the Champions League groups.

The Famous Aberdeen’s European Tour 2023/24
Buckets replied to Frank Grimes's topic in Scots in Europe
Well done to Aberdeen. Think across both ties against Aberdeen and Hearts people underestimate PAOK's level a bit. Most of their team has played in the top 5 leagues or has Champions League experience so to compete very well with them is decent going. -

How can that be a penalty on Kyogo? Nothing in it at all -

Maybe unfair to say given I don't know him but he seems like he has a high opinion of himself. Sometimes if he kept it simple instead of trying to be the star of the show every time he gets the ball it would serve the team better.
