  1. I really quite like Lennon and think he is a very interesting listen on a lot of topics, including football. For me, he's a great asset to the game in Scotland and one who I was delighted returned when he got the hibs job. The dislike, bordering on hatred, he gets form a lot of quarters strikes me as very very similar to the kind of stuff Scott Brown gets today as well. Lennon was a combative centre mid who loved getting into a war, into the face of his opponents and proved very effective and successful. All such players in all sorts of football leagues get similar treatment. The horrific treatment he has gotten from some quarters, though, is abhorrent and I really commend him for not letting it chase him out the Scottish game. If he really did throw around homophobic slurs to denigrate players at hibs, though, then I'll have to accept that he's a fucking p***k. Until and unless this is confirmed, though, I'll be glad to see him in Scottish football.
  2. Are the european representatives going to be missing from this as per, or is that changing due to the later start? I imagine the top flight sides will play their squad/fringe players, it would be a sensible move. Even so, think you're right about some absolute doings.
  3. The gap between top flight and lower leagues could be exacerbated even further by dint of the premiership sides having an 8/9 game head-start. One would presume, though, that a lot if not all of the top flight sides will use this as an opportunity to get competitive game time into the legs of their fringe players ahead of a period when they are going to be needed, with congested fixtures and injuries likely to take a toll. How great is it that all 42 clubs appear to be making it through to the other side of this pandemic though? Let's hope that situation holds through autumn/winter. Encouraging, nonetheless.
  4. https://spfl.co.uk/news/betfred-cup-dates-confirmed League cup group stages commencing 6th October.
  5. They are very much of relevance if one wants to draw a conclusion about how he did in those nine games. Indeed, they are the only relevant barometer to judge his Scotland performances thus far, because they are his only Scotland performances. So, if one wants to make a judgement on his performances in a Scotland shirt to date, then those are the only way to make that judgement.
  6. No, not judge him. Judge his performances in those nine caps. Think it through.
  7. Hasn't anyone told these c***s that Scotland is the laughing stock of world football? Back aff, Portugal. Tom English et al have made it quite clear.
  8. It would be silly to write off a player on 9 caps, even if it was 9 starts, but I don't think it is unreasonable to have formed a judgement on how he has performed in the minutes he has had in a Scotland shirt thus far, whilst accepting it is entirely possible he will get better. I'm not sure on what basis you think he suits Scotland's style of play, though. What is our style of play, as you understand it? And how does it complement McBurnie, or vice versa?
  9. To be fair to Chick Young, wasn't it he who put this video about in the first place? If nothing else, the guy is happy to laugh at himself.
  10. As you can imagine, they tend to be the high point of my season.
  11. BBC Scotland website bound to get it in the neck now, having updated the SPFL Premiership table to reflect the reality of the impending season, complete with Dundee United in situ and Hearts not included. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premiership/table
  12. ... And that's why i'm glad I said 'someone is saying'. I'd like to take this opportunity to distance myself from this baseless internet rumour. Ahem.
  13. On the facebook page, someone is saying that these are the away and 3rd kit shirts If so, absolutely tremendous.
  14. I note the word 'seethe' keeps being expanded to cover things like bafflement and bemusement. Personally I am seething about that.
  15. Airdrie, Montrose, Falkirk, Cove, Partick Thistle, East Fife, Clyde, Dumbarton, Peterhead, Forfar
  16. Colin Cameron to return AND pull the boots back on. There's yer experienced ball winning centre mid, folks. Come to think of it, was also a dab hand at the forward pass anawl. If it's good enough for Danny Lennon...
  17. Saw him playing in League 1 for Stranraer pre-lockdown. A LOT of time has passed since that picture in the article, suffice to say. His penchant for dreadful tattoos hasn't softened. Seemed like every bit the prat he appears to be.
  18. Ryan Stevenson, I think? No sure. But I do recall he was heavy into his tattoos and played for hearts.
  19. Yeah, I think that's a fair point. If there was an option to watch with or without, though, like with that heinous crowd noise, I'd be a happy chap. One commentator there for the casual fan, or to identify the players, and provide a very basic coverage of the action as it unfolds, would be fine. Get the 'co-commentators' binned. I did enjoy one World Cup match that had Mick McCarthy as co-commentator, essentially because a goalkeeper feigned injury and McCarthy scoffed 'get up you tart'. I don't think he was asked back after that haha.
  20. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53415655 Genuinely excellent to see Jim Jefferies back in the game after his illness. Always seemed a great guy and you imagine will do a better job for Hearts in this sort of role than Levein did (if it is indeed more or less a similar role, as it appears on the face of it).
  21. Young players in general don't always follow a straight line in development. Every chance he will have learned important lessons in his brief spell at Albion Rovers that pay dividends in the long run. If you had told certain fans that one day Kevin Nisbet would be bought by Hibs after a sensational season in the league for Dunfermline, you'd have been thought quite mad. If you'd told some fans that Lawrence Shankland would get a game for Scotland, or even for Dundee United, or be the transfer target of a number of clubs in england, you'd have been laughed out the room. There's nothing to gain from trying to read into his career thus far. He's a player with potential, it would seem. How far he takes that remains to be seen, but there is nothing substantive to be gleaned from his career to date. Hopefully he blossoms at Airdrie. He could fail to make the grade, he could quickly outgrow us. We shall but see.
  22. I always liked David Begg on Sportsound and think he's significantly missed now from the radio commentaries. Rob Mclean is fucking unbearable, as are almost all of the television commentary teams I've ever heard, be it Sky, BT, BBC. I genuinely struggle to think of any I actually enjoy the input of. I'd quite happily have no commentary at all, I think. Pre-match, half-time and post-match punditry is fine, but I never have really understood why we NEED a commentator on TV. We definitely don't need commentary teams, with former player X making absolutely pointless contributions at best, inane, gibbering nonsense comments at worst. They are quite fun to pillory, I suppose. And you wouldn't get commentatorballs in Private Eye without them. That's about as positive as i can be about them.
