Not really sure I get the Clelland logic.

Macca did well as caretaker so we gave him the job... 🤷‍♂️ Look how that went.

Clellands one game was a decent performance but I think that's probably more about a reaction from the players than some kind of Clelland management masterclass.

Absolutely not saying Cleland is the guy to save us or anything. More that Levein is doing the opposite of what he did for a couple of games which was playing the players in their natural positions rather than shoehorn them into a set formation which I think we’re unanimously in agreement that we’re sick of and hasn’t worked for a long time.

Yeah, Cleland had the Killie game ( 1st Nov), then Levein was announced 4 days later (5th Nov), and his first game was Motherwell (7th Nov).

This is correct, however the short time he had, I’m sure he said Cleland had already been preparing them for the Motherwell game so I was giving him that one! It had a similar feel to the Killie one and we scored goals.

I am beginning to think we should have just gone with Alex Clelland and took our chances because this is just not working.

Mentioned this in the match thread. The games where Alec and co were in charge were like the shackles had been taken off them. Oh and we managed to score two goals in both games.

Levein has put the shackles back on somehow. The media like to say Levein keeps things simple and organised. I couldn’t disagree more. Cleland had them organised immediately, back to basics with players in their natural positions and they looked comfortable playing. Nobody looks comfortable with the way Levein is trying to make us play. Whatever way that is.

I really can't see it happening looking at the forecast for the days building up to it.

Another heavy precipitation of tears and snotters from the barley harvesters is my prediction.

Was just thinking this. Snow followed by rain, coupled with the Dees inability to host a football match means this will most likely be off.

Need to just wait for our chance to pip them for that sixth spot.

  5. Something Levein said last week after Motherwell also rings bells with this kind of powder puff looking line up. He said we’re not a win the second ball type of team. So I’m thinking he’s not picking a combative player like Sven because it’s not the style he envisages.

This is weird for us because since the Tommy years right through we have always been a second ball, battling type of team.

Not sure if he’s implying we are a silky football type of team (which we’ve seen zero evidence of obviously) or if that’s what he’s aiming for but that could explain the lightweight team selections.

  6. I thought that was a massive improvement, not that it would take much after Stirling Albion. Also thought the new guys all looked decent.

Terrible first goal to lose though if it was onside.

Was VAR working? I was convinced both goals were away to be chalked off for offside but no such luck for us. Looked off from where I was sitting although admittedly I wasn’t sitting at a good angle!

  7. That was a nightmare.

I’d love to know what the ‘game plan’ actually is before the game.

Because watching that it seems to be every time we get possession of the ball, no matter how far up the pitch, no matter what players are in good positions up ahead, we have to make it go back to Liam Gordon and start all over again. Then it goes from him to Considine and it’s either returned to Gordon for him to completely bypass any wide players or midfielders and punt it up the park, sorry, I mean play a long pass up the channel! Or Considine will do likewise for our lone striker (despite League 2 (TWO) opposition) to aimlessly chase for it.  In what world, in any level of football, is that ever going to work?

If one of the people in the know about the modern football tactics could explain it that would be great because I just don’t get it.

Also some god awful individual performances as already mentioned. If I had to pick I’d say Ryan McGowan had his worst game in a Saints shirt. He was really, really bad today.

Arthur joined The Football Club in 1998 and The Football Club had great success during his time at The Football Club.

Ah, so he’s responsible for this ‘The Football Club’ stuff. How long has Mark Guidi been at The Football Club?

Personally I didn’t know he was here until covid when he was on the commentary and even then, I was like ‘is it THAT Mark Guidi? Surely not!’

How did we end up with him at Saints?
