P&B Chess League - Season 8 coming soon….

Division A Curmudgeon beats stewartmathers by checkmate. @free beer got into a wee bit of bother at the end of the opening and it slightly snowballed after that. -

Couple of results. Curmudgeon beats AH13STU. The usual tough game against Stu which was settled by a fairly minor error which exposed his king. Kendeans beats Curmudgeon by complete dopeyness. Fairly even for the most part and I had just got into a position with a slight advantage when I threw in one of the worst blunders I've ever seen by playing a move I had intended to play a couple of moves later. Well played. -

I fear I'll be the one getting crunched this week. Are you ever tempted to come back and show us all how it's done? -

Curmudgeon beats Aimhere by resignation. I probably played one of my better games in this one with an adventurous rook being my man of the match. -

He's getting his tactics all wrong again with the poppy being played out of position. -
How about one of these delights?

Division A Curmudgeon beats Invergowrie by resignation. The defences around Invergowrie's king we're just a little vulnerable, which couldn't quite cope with a queen/bishop assault. -

Division A Curmudgeon beats beef2711. I took a bit of a gamble with a bishop sacrifice to open up beef's defences, but it paid off and the post game analysis approved of it. -

Division A Curmudgeon beats Albinorov. A piece advantage and a couple of passed pawns was the difference. Thanks for the game. -

Division A Curmudgeon beats Arabjoe by resignation. Joe lost a knight early on. Using the extra piece I managed to exert a decent amount of pressure which led to the resignation. -

Right, I think I've cracked a theme of our signing strategy this season. As we've signed Rose, Syla (Cilla) and Senga we're obviously trying to have a team that sounds like it's full of cleaning ladies, presumably to distract our opponents. Once the window opens the next move is to bring Stephen Kelly back from Livingston. After that I've had a quick scout of potential loan signings. We could go for Everton's sub goalie, Virginia. For striking options Ipswich have Scarlett warming their bench and, for a bit more experience, Stoke City have Dwight Gayle only getting a few minutes playing time. We'll soon be racking up the points while our opponents are in a state of complete bewilderment. -
You're right, VAT would apply on food when eaten on the premises which is why some of the products have different prices depending on where it's consumed. Some items, such as chocolate biscuits or hot food have VAT on them regardless of where they're eaten so their prices don't vary.

I'm in. Thanks again. -
Now that BT Sport/TNT aren't showing games anymore I took matters into my own hands and travelled stateside taking in the Oregon State at Cal game. Glad it was a night game as the daytime temperatures are unseasonably high. Even with a 7pm kickoff it was still about 30C when it started which meant a whole load of overheated golden bears and a number of sweaty beavers. Anyway, the game yielded 92 points and Cal kept it close until the start of the 4th quarter when Oregon State deservedly pulled clear.

Not bad, but still think I prefer the original script.

The P&B 960 Cup Curmudgeon beats Aimhere by resignation. As with all our games there wasn't much in this one. I had made a good start and was up a couple of pawns, but any thoughts of carrying that lead through to the end was misplaced as Aimhere came fighting back. The end game proved decisive as I managed to get a couple of passed pawns which got promoted and started to mop up any resistance. Thanks to @Aim Here for another great game, and to @ancientnoise for his excellent efforts organising the tournament. -

I'm mildly surprised that Kate Garraway would be so greatly affected by your demise, sarge. Although I completely believe that you would be a pain in the arse to care for. -

You've wasted your money as it'll be brought down by a wayward McGinty pass immediately after kickoff.
