  1. Performances like that will see us looking up the table rather than down the way...yes County were utter dung, but we were the polar opposite from the word go and if Bair had taken even a quarter of his chances, then that result could have been extremely embarrassing for County
  2. Higdon was absolutely immense for us....after Coyne, he's the best centre forward I've seen at Motherwell
  3. As a young management trainee with a builders merchant about 25years ago...part of the trainee schedule meant a bit of travelling about to learn about products etc where they were produced. I along with a good few other trainees from around the UK spent a week in Stoke. 4 scottish boys including myself, boy from Inverness who was a bit younger and clearly struggled to keep up with the drinking we were doing absolutely lost the plot one night in a club, for no apparent reason...dashed back to our hotel and proceeded to throw every piece of clothing he had with him into the river that was passing the hotel. Absolutely bizarre thing to do
  4. Travelling from Rotterdam to Cologne in a motor home...anyone any suggestions on best/available camp sites for a couple of nights?
  5. That's actually ridiculous from the referee...he should have told the keeper to get on with it
  6. Good chance that the Darvel fella, and the Deadwood fella are actually related
  7. The crowds have increased gradually over the past 2 years. We have somewhere in the region of 400 kids playing for our academy teams and each one gets a season ticket to attend all league games...naturally, they don't all come, but the ones that do tend to bring a family member with them. We are regularly getting 200plus crowds to our games, but yesterday with no top flight football to contend with seen a bigger turnout than usual. Bottom line is that, there is an appetite within Bellshill to have a team the town can get behind.
  8. Would find it difficult to believe that the speedway stadium is unsuitable but the facility at easterhouse is perfectly acceptable... ...ask any player, manager or supporter where they'd prefer to be involved in a game. If be surprised if too many opted for Stepford.
  9. Or lanarkshire...or just about any corner of scotland
  10. I'd be amazed if more people from Livingston went to watch Rangers or Celtic, than people from somewhere like Paisley. Livingston are a new club and people just aren't born with the connection to that club that they are to Killie, Motherwell or any other Club that has been kicking about for nearly a century and a half. Someone further up said that St Johnstones crowds are poor in comparison to other one club towns such as Motherwell and Kilmarnock but the difference with Perth is that it really is a town surrounded by countryside and the odd village rather than huge conurbations like Lanarkshire and Ayrshire. Motherwells support is ridiculous given how close it is to Glasgow and how small its population is, but it can't be denied that the support is swelled by folk from neighbouring towns. This however, doesn't explain the pitiful historical support of Hamilton just across the Clyde.
  11. Andy Goram and Craig Gordon are the only two keepers in my time following Scotland who I'd describe as being better than reasonably solid
  12. On this day… On the 11th June 1957 the footballing world lost an icon, a ‘Wembley Wizard’, Transfer record breaker, the last man to captain Newcastle United to a Championship and to this day the most prolific Newcastle player with an 82% striker rate. Hughie Gallacher was born in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire on 2 February 1903. When schooling at Bellshill Academy he was a close friend of Alex James who was born in the adjoining village of Mossend. The two went on to become the most revered Scottish footballers of their generation. Gallacher and James offered their services to junior league side, Bellshill Athletic. Some bright spark in their wisdom dismissed the two footballing maestros as, ’far too small’. They were though allowed to push the club hamper for away matches to and from the station. They were paid half a crown for their efforts. Gallacher had been down the Hattonrig Pit at the age of 15, working 10-hour shifts. At 16 he left Lanarkshire junior league side Tannochside Athletic to join Hattonrigg Thistle. However fate played a part in his next move up the football ladder. As a spectator he attended to watch Bellshill Athletic play St Mirren juniors. Bellshill were a man short and Gallacher was asked to play. After hitting his side’s goal in the 1-1 draw he was asked to join the club as a player. Willie Bell, Club Secretary for Bellshill Athletic, recalled one game against Vale of Clyde that was to symbolise Gallacher’s career. Three times Gallacher was carried off the pitch injured. Three times he returned to the pitch to score. In December 1920, Hughie Gallacher was picked for the Scottish junior side to play against Ireland at Shawfield in Glasgow. 17 year old Gallacher’s fine header gave Scotland an equaliser with two minutes remaining in the 1-1 draw. ‘At 5’ 5", Gallacher had neither height nor weight. However, as he would show time after time in the years ahead, the weapons that he had in his armoury were simply out of this world. Utterly fearless bravery was routine in Gallacher’s game. He had the intuition, guile and ball control of a magician. He was superb at unnerving big defenders by dropping off deep into space in front of them before turning and running menacingly with the ball. He skipped and swerved effortlessly past opponents with his dribbling runs. His goal threat was terrifying, packing ferocious and precise shooting with either foot and excellent spring making him very handy with his head despite his diminutive appearance. If that wasn’t enough, Gallacher had an astonishing ability to score ’impossible’ goals. When not scoring himself he laid on chances for team mates with incisive passes, flicks and touches. Tremendous at shielding, Gallacher’s manner of hunching over the ball made it a near impossibility to dispossess him without knocking him over risking a free kick.’ Hughie Gallacher’s time at Bellshill Athletic was short lived as his talent was unmissable. A tough, determined player whose performances saw him rise to the top of the game.
  13. Where are you reading about their complaints? I'd love to have a gander at that
  14. My only real comment on this is...I absolutely detest sevco
  15. They've done us a favour...f**k paying to get into that fucking place
  16. Aye agreed...I've no idea why they address it as a Motherwell park
  17. Caledonian Braves playing out of Motherwell is a bit of an anomaly...absolutely nowhere near Motherwell and much closer to Bothwell, Bellshill or Hamilton
