Your last point there isn't true. As a Talbot fan, I love the SJC and will always get a little aroused when I see what IMO is one of the best looking trophies in world football. So playing an all-in non league national cup competition for this actual trophy sounds ace.

However picking up on your first point, in it's current form it is a voluntary competition so hell mend any club who enters and gets an unwanted away draw. You've got to be in it to win it and it seems a lot of clubs actually want to do just that...regardless of what those young arty farty new age types say!

    Mon the SJC!

Aye sure the fans would like it, but the issue is more to do with ‘the blazers’ of the clubs and leagues across this level of Scotland and their stubbornness.

of course clubs want to be in it, but it doesn’t stop them moaning when they have to go to the arse end of Scotland to beat and they get their limited expenses that’s barely cover the fuel for the bus never mind the actual bus itself!

it really needs a  freshen up but just don’t see anyone being big enough to start to a serious conversation

So the competition with by far the biggest prize pot shouldn't be allowed, why does the west of scotland not match the £20k winning cheque for the west of scotland cup likewise the south challenge cup?

The overwhelming majoirty of teams are in favour of playing the the junior cup. Other than Clydebank in the premier league who we all know the competition is below their board of directors, I think the rest are all involved? May be others however can't think off the top of my head.

If there is a cup to be done away with it is the South Challenge, lot of expense very little recovery.

The prize pot and £20k gets banded about a lot but let’s forget the vast majority of teams who get away draws and gets put out in early rounds don’t make any sort of money, if anything it costs them.

A non-league national trophy would be great, perhaps playing for the Junior Cup trophy but it needs taken on by a impartial group of people who can modernise the competition and make it feasible for all clubs, bring in sponsorship and perhaps some sort of broadcast deal perhaps even via Youtube which will get more eyes on our level.

however I think both sides of the debate are too stubborn to even try and get something like that working!

Id rather someone sat him down gave some feedback and helped him be better? There arent that many folks lining up to referee at our level, i work with one lad who basically thought the aggro of running the line at wosl level wasnt worth it and just does saturday morning amateurs now for the same money or there abouts.

Exactly why we don’t have linos in the first division.

Forgotten man Dario Nimmo completes transfer to Ardeer Thistle.

Nothing from us regarding this but confirmed by his new club.

Dario asked to be released as he was planning to step away from football due to work commitments and asked that we didn’t make a big deal about it.  Which I respected, and didn’t know he was signing for Ardeer until it was posted

You will need to explain this one further??

As the lowland league clubs continue to vote against increased promotion and relegation it makes it incredibly difficult for aspirational teams in WoSFL. Darvel, Talbot, Cumnock, Kilwinning, Pollok, Clydebank etc to actually get into the lowland league!

Lets try to be honest, I like the invitation and the compliment, but 90% of WOSFL teams are paying lip service to the pyramid, and are happy to be where they are, TRUE, but good luck to you in the CUP and in your climb back up.

It’s pretty hard for clubs like Kilwinning when teams like Cowdenbeath are gate keeping the pyramid and limiting promotion for the tier 6 sides

A difficult one -always thought Beith owned Bellsdale and didn’t realise they were tenants

Yeah Beith thought North Ayrshire Council were their landlord however it transpires the land is actually owned by a historical trust whose last living member died in 1971. Without the land owners permission you can’t get planning therefore no floodlights and as such no license

Interesting-so all of the upgrades were added to a ground the club didn’t own ?

Pretty sure this is fine providing you get approval from the land owner. Which I think is Beith’s issue that they can’t get permission from the landowner to put floodlights

It’s easy to slate Gall and Kennedy but they did bring Darvel out of total obscurity into the headlines. The club had no history or heritage as a significant club in junior/non league football and it was always going to be a short term burst whatever way it played out-we have all seen that with various clubs over the years where a sugar daddy has arrived.

The ground has certainly been upgraded massively and if that is the only legacy then it’s decent.

Agree with the legacy point, they’ve been the panto villains and still are too a much lesser extent, the pieman seems too have quietened down and Tony Mc just doesn’t have the the same character that Mick had.

if the ground stays as football club for the community and proper committee types take it on then wish them well, however would be concerned the land gets sold for housing or a new aldi or lidl

  10. I assume it's always been a rule and a club have taken umbrage to another team doing it and it's forced the south challenge cup committee to enforce their rule.

Clubs received communication from the committee during the week and a couple of teams queried it with the SFA directly who seemed to confirm it was the case. Assume it's the same for The Scottish Cup in a few weeks also, as I know teams charged for kids when they normally don't

Last week @Kennie came on here to say that Kilwinning couldn't have a fixture brought forward as the two other idle teams didn't want to, which is fair enough.

But now Clydebank have a league fixture with just 7 days notice (they were meant to be sitting idle after going out of the SRCC and not having a league game) due to Gartcairn's game v Benburb being put off due to their Junior Cup postponed game being played on the 14th. Doesn't seem like Clydebank are happy with that...

A home game for the defending champions against local rivals that they hadn't played for 6 months is usually going to attract a good crowd...

I'm also not sure what income you're talking about when it comes to for example, Bridge of Don v Irvine Vics yesterday - BOD having to pay at least £400 out for the refs (not including expenses) and the away team's travel guarantee before they can break even (a crowd of at least 80 needed for that) while Irvine Vics get £400 in travel money (do you think that is enough to cover to cover the 180 mile journey?).

I believe a number of players have made arrangements to go away with family with it being the school holidays  for Kennie to then do exactly what he said he wouldn’t do previously with Kilwinning having given Clydebank Benburb who they played on the opening day just like The Buffs had Camby and could have played Camby.

The junior cup gets the respect in the fixture calendar the junior clubs want, however it doesn’t appear the fixture calendar is getting the same respect coming back the way. The ties should he played on the next scheduled day for junior cup matches which is the 4th of November and not changing what’s already in the calendar!

As for the costs, really selling it here! Doesn’t sound like all that great a benefit unless you actually win the thing. Whilst the Strathclyde demo cup doesn’t offer prize money it offers a nice route to The Scottish Cup without the hardship of the junior cup travel and costs. Surprised more Non-licences clubs aren’t looking at this option

But we saw at the AGM yesterday that a team which met all the criteria was denied entry, presumably purely in an attempt to keep the leagues at a particular size, or at least to have an even number of teams.

the WoSFL part of the pyramid now set of 5 x 16 team divisions. 80 clubs will be the number, with opportunities coming to new clubs at the bottom should a premier division team get promoted.

Suggest we need to let the Junior Cup evolve as it will.

Evolution and the SJFA aren’t exactly something you’d put together

Ideally a national cup at tier 5 and below is the way forward however the highland league teams don’t appear to be interested. If a third party not attached to the juniors or the current organisations in the pyramid were to come up with something, that was funded with decent prize money and sponsorship then it might take off but sadly can’t see anything but the the status quo

    @OfficialCatchup

Heard early indications is that B teams will be in the Lowland League again next season. If true, not entirely surprising. Holds off the idea of the Conference League coming in from next season. Decision to be made on that in coming weeks.

I thought you wouldn’t trust the Catch Up as far you could throw them 😂
