Some Celtic fans in your end.

Looking at that, most of them seem to be Celtic fans! The column of seats in which the big lump wearing the white top is sitting; the guy to the right of the first aider; and bar the guy wearing the blue hoops, and the person next to him, the entire RHS of the stand shown!

Knowing the OF as I do, I bet they were growling at the home support at the end for having the audacity to celebrate!

  2. I think anybody who claims we weren't lucky yesterday is deluded. However, that's part of the game. I can remember so many times when we were robbed. Let's just be thankful that we took all three points and hope we don't screw up against Georgia. :)

    ^^^ Now this!!!

Very smart. Yellow and black compliment each other, but that's smartly done. I might even be tempted to buy one.

It was better than either of the cup-finals in my book.

I cannot see how anybody could claim differently. It was a bizarre game, but to come back from being 3-0 on aggregate with 19 mins to go is just stunning. Thistle should have killed the tie off at Firhill. They simply failed to take their chances, and it's a shame, but respect to County,  they took theirs.

  5. Just back. What a game! I love the way Thistle play, they're a delight to watch and I really hope their spurned chances don't cost them. They should've scored more, but at 2-0 Ross County are very much still in this, especially if they take an early lead in Dingwall.

These play-offs have produced some really great games and, whilst Thistle have the advantage, it wouldn't surprise me if County can still pull off a shock up there. I really hope I'm wrong, as it would be brilliant to see Thistle back in the top flight, especially if they play like that.

Doolan said he's not going to change anything and they will be looking to win the tie, but I'm not sure that's the best approach. Anyway, looking forward to the game on Sunday.

    'mon the Jags!

  6. I agree with @Marten. In fact I would take it further and have only the top two divisions of the SPFL on a national level.

I would then have three regional SPFL divisions below that:

Highland, East and West, would probably be the best. By creating more derbies and less travel, this should help boost crowds.

The problem with league reconstruction, though, is that accepting more teams into the SPFL will result in smaller payments. That is a big problem, as most clubs will simply not vote for it. I'm sure I read somewhere that the relegated club from the bottom league gets £60k as a parachute payment, whereas the Highland champions get £5k.

Is just a name game now.

Albion Rovers a club nobody in Coatbridge cared about replaced by a team with a strange name nobody West of the Edinburgh bypass had ever heard of.

I genuinely do feel sad for the Albion Rovers guys on here but it was like your old 95 year old granny dying.

You knew it was going to happen one day.

The Spartans is a bit quirky, I agree, but acceptable. It's  Caledonian Braves that I cannot bear, as it just sounds so American, as does Cumbernauld Colts, come to think of it. Additionally, I'm not sure how I would feel about a university's team playing in the SPFL. An outfit that will change their name for cash, is also not welcome (Open Goal Broomhill). Tranent need to drop 'Juniors' now they're playing in the senior league.

In fact, there's a case to be made for zero promotion/relegation spots with the Lowland League on account of their 💩 names.

The standard of the lowland league is rising and is becoming more competitive. That is one thing, you have that then interest will rise and if you get your house in order then your team could benefit greatly.  It's really open right now, it sup to Albion to embrace it and try and get people through the turnstiles, sponsorship etc...
Every team will go through bad times as people see it and its then that they need to  take a step back and work out what they were doing wrong

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people from Coatbridge are really not interested in Albion Rovers, which is probably why they're in this position. Don;t get me wrong, they have a dedicated and loyal band of followers, but they number around 250. It's simply not enough to sustain football in the SPFL, IMHO.

Accies tweeted there were 3429 at the game yesterday, 1822 Airdrie fans.

How many does their stand hold as it looked empty

The ground has a capacity of just over 6,000. I'm guessing the one behind the goal holds 2,000, as it was almost full yesterday, but not quite. The temporary stand accommodates 700, according to footballgroundguide.com, so I would guess 3,300.

1,600 home fans for a play-off final against local rivals is dreadful, btw. So aye, the stand was more than half empty if my calculation's correct.

It took a good few years in England to open up relegation between League 2 and the Conference/National League. However, having done so, there are several sides who dropped from the EFL and have now returned, Wrexham, being the latest. The mix of clubs between L2 and the National League is such  so much so that most folk would have difficulty identifying who was in which League.

One of the biggest bounces has been that of Luton Town who are just 90 minutes away from the gazillions of the EPL having been in the Conference League as recently as 2014.

The opportunity is there for the recently relegated L2 sides to encourage their former league partners to do the right thing and open up relegation and promotion between the current Tiers 4 and 5 (and reject the conference league.

The maximum number of spots for relegation is two. So how would that work?

The Highland League and Lowland League champions could have a play-off as they do now, with the winner taking the place of the side that finishes bottom. The loser of the play-off then plays the second bottom side. That would work.

I just think the Lowland League is tinpot for admitting reserve teams. It also means the side that finishes fourth could potentially contest the play-off, if the three B teams finish in spots 1-3. It's a joke of a league.
