Obviously social media wasn't as ubiquitous when we appointed McInnes, but I do wonder what the reaction would have been to rumours that we were about to appoint a guy who had been sacked by Bristol City having succumbed to a club record run of consecutive defeats, and didn't exactly have a reputation for playing 'exciting football' in Scotland. Then again, maybe our expectations were slightly lower over a decade ago now.

I remember it well. The forums were disappointed. It couldn't have been more of a 'meh' type appointment for me than it was.

24 months later I'd have let him have a go on my wife, guided him in and lit his cigarette for him afterwards.

I don't really understand the fervent opposition to O'Neill, in all honesty. I suppose I can kind of understand wanting a more exciting or inspiring name, but I never see anybody really nail down what they mean by that, other than perhaps somebody foreign who hasn't worked in Scotland before.

I can understand why Burrows is saying that we are an attractive proposition in his interview, but at the same time, we are still relegation-threatened, have had three (discounting Warnock) unsuccessful managers in a row, we need major squad surgery in the summer along with likely losing our best player, and carry the potential for a disruptive restructure. So I think there has to be a bit of realism about the quality of candidate that will be putting themselves forward, especially when you see from McInnes that a good body of work up here maybe doesn't count for too much elsewhere.

We are currently a high-risk job, but without too much of a high reward for the manager who does take it, even if he gets us into Europe and maybe wins us a trophy.

Let's be honest, we're in a similar situation to where we were when McInnes took over and that's the type of appointment we will make.

We're past the point where we are an attractive proposition for any manager who's on the way up. The time to appointment an 'exciting' type was when Glass or Goodwin were being replaced.

We're needing someone to come in and do what Derek did in the first couple of years but not be so focused on signing English lower league players.

I’d rather they just provided substantive information. I’m more miserable than most, so there’s a happy medium. But I always thought cormack talked too much about what he was going to do and what he wanted. That might sound wise after the fact, but fairly certain I’ll be on record on here saying it at the time.

The case in point was there document about style of play etc, a garbage piece of work with absolutely nothing substantive in terms of delivery. Just a fantasy wish list of things fans like to hear.

    Exactly.

As someone who doesn’t cry about their lack of statements I do agree with you.

But given the bedwetting about a lot of this I get why they went with a more intimate interview instead of a statement.

Was mostly a big nothing though, a 2 paragraph statement could’ve provided the same level of relevant information.

TBF to the maniacs, I see their point.

Both are very active on social media when it's going well.

It wouldn't bother me if they never post but can't really have it both ways.

Not being a dick or anything but what happened with Turnbull?

His Celtic career probably didn't pan out as he might have hoped but a serious injury and a change of manager was as much a factor in that as anything.

He made 125 appearances for Celtic compared to Morgan's 31.

Won PFA YPOTY, was Celtic's POTY and YPOTY in his first season along with being included in the PFA team of the year and was a member of the Scotland Euro2020 squad.

    Along with:
    2 League Titles
    2 Scottish Cups
    2 League Cups

His time at Parkhead was hardly a bust.

Jumping in late, but when Turnbull was at Motherwell and Ferguson at Aberdeen, who did you think would go on to be the better player at this stage?

Turnbull to Celtic was the wrong decision, IMO. Said as much at the time.

It has to make sense for NI and for MoN.

If you're the head of their FA, you'd rather MoN fucked off early and you had your new coach taking these games this week. I can't imagine they'd be torture to deal with over a deal like that.

If you're MoN, why would you fucking bother going to Romania and Glasgow this week? What's the point? You'd just get on with your new job, or at least preparing for it.

It's not just about Aberdeen. This idea of him wanting to stay in position till the summer suits nobody involved in the deal.

    I don't disagree.

FWIW I was told O'Neill. The next day there was the text message going around (and posted on this site) regarding what is going on. Most of what I've said comes from that message and putting 2+2 together. All I was ever told from my 'source' was that we wanted O'Neill now and compensation was the stumbling block.

If it's O'Neill then it's a mighty coincidence if it's how it plays out how a message from a couple of weeks ago predicted.

Fair play. I admire your defence of your source.

I think your source is full of it.

MoN may well be the next Aberdeen manager. f**k knows where Aberdeen will end up with this. But the idea he's running about taking a team for absolutely no fucking reason whatsoever, to the benefit of no party involved, and has passed up a perfect time to change job just doesn't stack up.

Why does it have to make sense? Haven't you seen us botching several managerial appointments over the past few years 🤣
