  1. Apologies for the lack of updates in the Championship @Jacksgranda. Struggling with reoccurring Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at the moment, which makes it very difficult and painful to type very much. Still enjoying a fascinating start to the season in both senior divisions though, hopefully contributing on the thread again soon. (kindly posted by Mrs C)
  2. Also thought Swinney was impressive last night, thoughtful, measured and patient with his responses. A refreshing change from the usual bluster on QT.
  3. Championship round up, courtesy of the official NIFL Webpage(s). There’s no change at the top of the Lough 41 Championship following narrow victories for leading duo Loughgall and Annagh United while Dundela, now in third, picked up a win alongside Ards and Ballinamallard United. Loughgall continue to lead the way after a Nathaniel Ferris strike towards the end of the first half proved enough to give Dean Smith’s side the edge over Institute at Lakeview Park. Annagh also collected all three points on offer with victory over HW Welders at the BMG Arena. Stephen Murray opened the scoring midway through the first half with Niall McGinley adding a second a few minutes later while the Welders, playing under new boss Paul Kee for the first time, did attempt a grandstand finish when Michael McLellan pulled one back seven minutes from time. Niall Currie’s Dundela moved into third spot after coming from behind to defeat Newington at Wilgar Park. Darren Stuart fired the Swans into the lead just before the break but late goals from David McMaster and David Fearon saw the Duns come out on top. Warrenpoint Town had started the day in third but slipped a place after drawing away to Ballyclare Comrades. Joe Tully sent a free-kick into the top corner with around a quarter of an hour on the clock, a lead they held until ten minutes from time when Luke Walsh levelled for ‘Point. Ards were top scorers with a 5-2 defeat of Dergview at Clandeboye Park. Sam Robb had edged the visitors into the lead early on but Eamon Scannell levelled soon after before Ross Hunter, Patrick Cafolla and Scannell again handed the home side a commanding half-time advantage. Sean McCarron pulled one back from the spot early in the second half but Adam Salley restored Ards’ three-goal cushion soon after. Ballinamallard United fought back to get the better of Knockbreda. Lee McGreevy found the net inside the opening ten minutes but Shane McGinty levelled from the spot a short time later. Mark Stafford then bagged the winner just before the hour. Meanwhile, in the only Premier Intermediate League game played, Queen’s University beat tenants PSNI by the odd goal in five at The Dub with Matt Doherty, Adam Robinson and Chris Middleton all getting on the scoresheet.
  4. Another cracking afternoon at Taylor’s Avenue, as Carrick edge Cru’s out in a seven goal thriller! Something just doesn’t feel right about this start to the season!! @Jacksgranda
  5. Not sure about the new format @Jacksgranda, would much rather see the extended action, rather than the chat in the studio. Would be good to see a Championship goal round up too!
  6. Quick round up of last night’s Championship action as Loughgall go six points clear at the top! https://www.nifootballleague.com/news/2022/september/villagers-six-clear-after-a-busy-night-in-the-championship/
  7. Carrick unlucky tonight, not much between the two sides, a lack of concentration for Larne’s late winner perhaps, but two decent penalty shouts turned down for the Ambers, (would like to see them back again). Enough to go home to feel positive about though! Deserved a point at least![emoji53] ETA, disappointing to see Ballyclare losing at Institute tonight, got a real deja vu feeling from last year’s start![emoji53]
  8. The NIFL highlights show makes a welcome return this week, Wednesday at 23:15pm on BBC 2 Norn Iron & The BBC iPlayer (and presumably its new permanent slot).
  9. A pal of mine down south and long standing STH at Burnley shared that; Seán Dyche recently headed back up to Burnley from his Northants home to honour a promise he made before his departure from Turf Moor, to visit a local pub renamed after him ‘The Royal Dyche’ (previously The Princess Royal). Dyche held an impromptu ‘lock-in’ Q&A session with fans spending over 2 hours reflecting on his time as Burnley Manager and his future plans. A few regrets understandably but no excuses or sour grapes. On leaving he paid the bar tab in full. Sounds like a decent chap.
  10. Will she invite the ‘Tea Sock’ to this meeting perhaps?[emoji23]
  11. Plenty of goals in the Championship yesterday. Leaders Loughgall put 4 past Welders at Lakeview, whilst new boys Newington had their most impressive return yet with a 5-2 win over Ballyclare at Solutude. Ballinamallard also hit four with a late burst to push past Ards at Ferney Park. Institute had a comfortable 3-0 over Dergview at Darragh Park. Rounding things up Warrenpoint continued their recent run of form with a 2-1 win away at Knockbreda. As the table takes shape. Loughgall sit top with 16 points from 6 games. Annagh United are second on 13 points having played a game less. Dergview rooted to the bottom still winless with just a single point from their first six games. 12. Sounded like a close game though @Jacksgranda? Couple of really good chances for the Bannsiders but undone on the break. Delighted with 3 points for the Ambers up at Ballymena!
  13. Didn’t see the game last night, (in Wigan at the Rugby League - SL Semi Final), watched the highlights this morning though. Only half a dozen games in but the Premiership is already shaping up to be a fascinating contest this year. Hopefully Carrick can continue a decent wee run of form up at the Ballymena Showgrounds this afternoon.
  14. Good piece on Glenavon youngster Christopher Atherton too!
  15. Great performance and result for Dundela at Wilgar Park!
  16. Wow, some finish, McIlroy couldn’t have gone closer for an Eagle 3 on the 18th to force the playoff. Lowry wins.
  17. Wonderful stuff from Shane Lowry at Wentworth a faultless performance -17 (65). Surely enough to clinch it now?
  18. That’s an absolute monster of a drive down the Par 4 11th from McIlroy!!
  19. Managed to get a day in at the LV= Div 2 Championship game earlier this week, Derbyshire Vs Durham. It’s been a long time since I last did this, but was a pleasant reminder, just how enjoyable it can be, a quiet afternoon at the Cricket with a cold beer.
  20. Should have been watching Fulham Vs Chelsea in the pub up at Sanquhar then the game Lorimer Park. Probably just spend the afternoon in the local, channel hopping for any live sport whatsoever then Fish n’ Chips at Moore’s to ensure that the afternoon isn’t completely wasted.[emoji53]
  21. Both tonight’s fixtures at Inver Park and Solitude cancelled and tomorrow’s Premiership, Championship and Intermediate games postponed ‘as a mark of respect by the NIFL’ following the death of QEII yesterday. https://www.nifootballleague.com/news/2022/september/nifl-fixtures-postponed/
  22. Another corker from Andy Mitchell for Carrick at Mourneview and perhaps an even better strike by Curtis Allen for the equaliser!!
  23. Invite a well known sardonic wit onto your show and not expect them to rip the piss out of this whole pantomime with Liz Truss in a starring role? Talk about an open goal. The rest of us can’t take this seriously, neither could Joe Lycett.
  24. Came across one whilst out walking last weekend, near Clatteringshaws Loch with Mrs C. Haven’t seen one in years, but wasn’t quick enough to whip my phone out for a picture as it soon f*cked off into the longer grass. Thought best not to pursue, but quite exciting all the same.
