There is a difference between citing him as a "favourite ever player" and best striker. I've seen some excellent strikers at the club since the late 70's and while Gal is nowhere near as clinical as someone like Coyle the fact that he came to the club when we had been struggling in League 1 and was an integral part of the turnaround in the clubs fortunes goes some way to cementing his place as a bit of a hero. I dare say that at any time during his 5 seasons with us he could easily have got more money elsewhere but chose not to. His achievements last season in the promotion winning team will ensure that he's fondly remembered and as a (step) parent of a young laddie who absolutely idolises the man it's been great to see how willing he is to spend time with the young supporters. He always comes across as being a thoroughly decent guy to boot. He is 100% deserving of whatever the club do to commemorate his achievements with us and will undoubtedly be one of the relatively few players that I will actually look to see doing well at his next club.

Well, that was quite a long winded retort.

Callum Gallagher, good player, all round nice guy and deserving of hall of fame recognition.

I've been around much longer than the 22 years on this talking shop, and have witnessed some excellent strikers playing in the diamond and have my own ideas of each ones contribution to the history of the club.

My all time favourite Airdrie player. I still think his contribution over the last five years is underrated by some, every part-time club would kill for a reliable goalscorer and he’s as good as you’ll get at League One level. It’s telling that he’s off to the biggest part-time team in the country. He has hit his ceiling this season and it feels like a natural endpoint for both parties but I wish him all the best.

Others have mentioned it but that goal at Falkirk was sensational and felt like the start of the upward trajectory we’ve been on since then. His overall game has improved loads since he joined too, going from a penalty box striker with great movement to a really solid all round striker who can drop deep and link play. Even his yearly miss from a yard out was quite comical given he scored more than enough to make up for it. I think he scored with each thigh in play-offs against Cove and Montrose too

I’m glad this has been announced before the end of the season as he deserves a good send off whenever his last game is. A true modern day Airdrie great.

    You must be quite young1

Good player, but nowhere near the best striker we have had.

I feel he's trying to deflect attention away from the fact he's talking keech by pretending he didn't say it.

Had to laugh at the pundits on Friday night desperate for someone to say Brown biffed out and started throwing stuff about at HT but it turns out he was calm and positive. Get it round them.

Just stick with him, untill the Sellik job comes up.

Of course we've had a very good season so far:- Arguably the smallest budget in the league, years languishing in league one and so far last 16 of the League and Scottish Cups, skirting in and close to the play offs, winning the challenge cup. I would agree with you that by your standards Ayr should be doing better, by our standards yes disappointed by some of the results and performances but in our past and current position we have made a good fist of it this season.

FWIW think your new stand will look quite tidy when it's complete. Is the plan to have the whole of the seated and standing section for home fans only...what will happen if you are facing a big traveling support (supposing you get promoted?) - will they not have access beyond the corner of the existing away end terracing?

Must have been designed by Barr. The stand is facing the pitch.

8 red cards in 761 matches. Doesn't really emphasise your point does it.

Thanks for the points btw, you've probably single handedly kept us up. Think of that when we're pumping you again next season.

Who'd have thought that having Airdrie back in the Championship would be so enjoyable.

Number of reds is irrelevant, his style of play was.

We don't tend to play well against hammer throwers, like Ayr and Morton.

Being at the game last night and putting myself quickly through the recording today, it's clear that Ayr turned the game around from pouncing on that first error

Much better than us in the second half once ahead, and that's pretty much how all the games have gone this season

On the McMaster foul it looked dodgy to me last night from being in the stand but TV viewing , it should have been a Red card.

My only quibble would be with Scott Brown claiming there were many reckless challenges as I can't recall any other during the game.

Anyway no Saturday game and it feels like a Sunday. Nostalgically longing for the days when we played Saturday's and Wednesday's.

    Oh the irony!

Scott Brown brands an opposition team reckless.

    😂

  7. I mentioned the keeper in an earlier post, I would like him to be a success, but their is a reason that he doesn't have a club at this time of the season and he won't have any serious match practice, which might explain his positioning and decisions' I also like Watson as a player, but as has been mentioned, he has a mistake in him and has cost us goals at crucial times in the last two games. It was pretty obvious that Ayr would come out for the second half, fired up and we should have been prepared for the onslaught.

Thought the new keeper did pretty well, one cracking save and everything else handled pretty safely, wonder if we'll sign him up as back up for Rae next season? I liked the Todorov / McStravick combination up front, wouldn't mind seeing that again. Wasn't too sure about Todorov start fo the season but would keep him now, with another striker brought in to play alongside.

Disagree on the keeper, the only reason he didn't concede, was down to the defenders protecting him, he was poor with cross balls and didn't fill me with confidence, so I won't be signing any petitions to keep him.

  9. Enjoyed the game yesterday and obviously the result, re-watched the whole game, in Welsh Gaelic although the match commentary was in English, and the guys gave a very balanced view of the game.

TNS started the game better than we did, with a lot of pace down the wings, and after they scored, it seemed like they would push on and they scorned a few chances, but we responded well and should have put the game to bed before half time. Second half was nip and tuck, but over the piece I thought that we shaded it.

Todorov was my man of the match, due to his overall performance, giving their defense a torrid time, good hold up play and lay offs, and topped off with a goal.

Everyone played their part and deserve great credit for all of their efforts, TNS were no mugs and could have tipped the scales in the other direction, but 'Que Sera Sera'

Hi airdrie fans, I come in peace. Bit off topic. Im watching a bbc documentary on the miners strike of the 80’s and it’s a great watch, if you haven’t already. I was just a wee guy in the 80’s but I do remember your goalie,John Martin, getting ‘scab’ abuse. Anyone of a certain vintage shed light on this? I 100% joined in on the shouts of “scab, scab, scab……” without fully knowing what it meant. Horrible time for all miners and there was only one woman responsible for it all.

My uncle worked with him at Monktonhall and used to say that he was just a big daft boy.

Looks like the Friday night Championship games from April onwards will just be whoever is home to Raith or Dundee United. I've been expecting it for a while but I guess our home game against Dundee United will probably be moved, which would be a shame as it would cut down the crowd a fair bit.

Dundee Utd have never brought a big travelling support, considering that they claim to have over 5000 season ticket holders.
