Coverage of Scottish sport in the Guardian is very, very bad. They did a  whole write up of the last six nations and mentioned us once at the end.

They only care about him because he's on Arsenals books.

I'm well aware that The Guardian isn't all that bothered with Scotland my concern would be what if neither is Tierney.

There's a decent interview with Tierney in The Grauniad.  He's clearly loving his time in the Basque Country, culturally and in terms of his football.  I know his homesickness when he moved to London has been a bit of a theme of this thread, but as he says at the end here he's a bit older now and has adapted to life there well.  Worth a read.

Interesting that with the Euros only months away that article makes absolutely no mention of Scotland.

Any reason why they have annoyed you?

They made him watch Baseball ? They insisted the English Premier League was actually a really exciting brand of football ? They reluctantly concluded that, based on current form and historical precedent, it was highly unlikely that Scotland would qualify from their group at Euro 2024 ? They no platformed him ?

Aye once you understand American Football it's an exciting sport to watch. I don't, but I get why others do.

Anyway, my PTTTGOMN is the naming of things after people who have died. At Firhill we have the John Lambie stand and McParland Way. Both men achieved things that we were all aware of for years, but we waited til McParland had died before naming a thing after him. Do it while he's still alive and he gets to be honoured by it for the rest of his life. Just seems a shame to wait.

Two men most associated with industrial strength, if highly uncreative, swearing. Bad , bad, bad Thistle !

Imagine Celtic winning the Scottish cup and Dermot Desmond gets presented with the trophy before any of the players get near it

Makes sense that those who pay for the trophy get the trophy. Celtic do not win the league or the cup because they are the best but because they are the richest.

I advise you never to engage in comedy. Such a sensitive audience, I’ll hang my head in shame and never watch a comedian again.

    Apart from Frankie Boyle.

The first and only rule of comedy is 'be funny'. You aren't.

Why on earth do you feel the need to crowbar a reference to putdown our domestic game at any opportunity, it's just plain weird.

It wasn't me who posted that footage but if you disagree that The Old Firm winning every top flight title since 1985 and that same Old Firm being guaranteed to win every future title they compete in, is not 'tediously predictable' then it's you that is plain weird.

Apparently, we played really well in the first half, but he preferred to focus on the negatives. It's "fatalism", a forelock-tugging lack of belief in our own ability to achieve anything that has held Scotland back for decades, and not just in sport. But that's the preferred narrative, which wankers like him stick to, especially when they're being paid to do so.  I tried to make my above post strictly about sport, but frankly it isn't, so I shouldn't have. That article is entirely in keeping with everything that BBC Scotland vomits forth.

The phrase "these people" sticks in my throat too, particularly when used by someone from the failed statelet.

It's lack of ability that has held back Scottish football and rugby for decades. Nothing to do with intrinsic self loathing. And Tom English is from the Republic of Ireland which, like all countries is both good and bad but is in no way a failed 'statelet'. That schoolboy error rather summed up the O Grade Modern Studies simplicity of your argument.

  9. Creedence Clearwater Revival's original 'Proud Mary' is far superior to Ike & Tina Turner's hysterical screaming version. Hitching a ride on a riverboat queen sailing gently down the Mississippi with that caterwauling hammering my eardrums ? No thanks.

I found his report on the Scotland rugby match at the weekend entirely in keeping with his football reporting. It pretty much amounts to us being too wee, too poor and too stupid to play rugby properly. Which certainly helps to explain why he continues to be employed by BBC/Radio Scotland. I found this -

"Fatalism is bred into these people at birth."

    - particularly obnoxious. An absolute tool.

In what sense is he wrong ? Anyone who loves the Scottish national teams and wants them to win and who isn't overwhelmed by fatalism really hasn't been paying attention.
