  1. Good on him, if he gets his chance he’ll need to take it. Definitely a decent player who gives 100%. Appreciate you posting the link
  2. Comments like that from a manager like him will attract attention.. Rhys has been mentioned earlier in the week when the Hibs job was discussed on the radio and I’m willing to bet he’ll be linked with just about any job in the top half of the Championship or bottom half of the Premiership when they open up.
  3. So a mixture of positives and negatives from this game, it didn’t turn out exactly as I had expected although the result seemed about right. Thought we rode our luck early and Utd came close a few times and should have been up by more at HT. It was disappointing to lose a goal early and like most of us, I feared the worst, especially since they were pressing and creating. But as the half went on we seemed to settle a bit more, despite losing McMaster and we limited their chances for sure. At times we passed the ball well but their quality shone through at several points and they looked dangerous when we were caught out in midfield. McStavrick looks a real find and he was constantly involved and looks exactly like the type of player Rhys would shine to. Tons of energy, looks like he could play 2 games back to back no problem. Dycey was solid too and I’m glad he was on the park today, much needed at the back. Our chances seemed few and far between so was disappointed that Todorov came on with just 5 mins left in the ninety. Ultimately, he was involved in very little attacking play and would have preferred to see him in with 20/25 to go. Josh playing up towards the half way line was always going to present Dundee with some sort of half chance and the boy took his goal well, but at that point the game was finished anyway and I’m glad he was showing a willingness to try and get the ball up. All the new players gave a good account of themselves and that’s great experience before our next league game in a couple of weeks. No points gained - expected. McMaster injured? - would weaken the side if so. Decent 90 mins given Friz and Dean weren’t part of it. Will be interesting to see what United fans made of it
  4. Picked up on this from Twitter, but heard a discussion about possible Hibs candidates on Clyde SSB - McCabes name came up and the panel were quite optimistic about the possibility of him getting a crack at it. Kind of a ‘new blood, fresh ideas’ approach. Then got word that his name was also mentioned on the Down The Slope Hibs podcast. I guess it’s good to see him being recognized for his success so far but have to think he’s miles of a Hibs type job or even Premiership. But give it a couple of years… I’ll get shot down for this suggestion but for LB, would anyone consider Brody Paterson? Still young, developing. Paul Hartley saw something in him and I thought he was solid for us. Even if it’s a short term loan for cover, see if it works. I think he could fit in to this side
  5. For me it’s not particularly about overall skill. More about being street smart on the pitch and helping the team through some of the tougher games. I will admit that some of our younger players are showing a serious amount of maturity on the pitch and I’m not against bringing in youth but feel we should be bringing in a player or two that already has that proven record at this level, thats all. Believe me, I’m enjoying our style of play and the positive attitude the players have regardless of the opposition. Next week will tell the story … if we can give a really good account of ourselves and maybe come away with a point that will show how far we’ve come and if this team can take something from the top end teams. If we get a hiding, there’s a good chance it’s because of inexperience. I’m actually very confident about next week but we’re not going to get something from every game and Tannadice is about as tough as we’ll get. There’s a big jump from Dalbeattie Star or Linfield to games like next weeks. And I’m excited to have these young lads join, long term they’ll be great additions. For next week, no. As for a strong assistant to Rhys, Dycey seemed the logical choice and I’m happy with their partnership. Always have been. The club said they would be looking for some sort of mentor to help Rhys which didn’t materialize. In hindsight, I’m thinking Rhys was proving his worth and probably said he didn’t want anyone interfering or whatever. So far so good imo
  6. Meant to add that if Josh can keep conceding just one goal per game we’ll be adding points almost every week
  7. My thoughts on all of todays goings on… Firstly, getting the 3 points was massive. It gives us a very solid start to the campaign 3 games in and I’m feeling confident at the moment. Thought Ballantyne, McMaster, Frizz had a solid first half although I agree, it wasn’t one of our strongest performances. Losing Frizz so early in the second gave me the fear, I was worried we’d concede within 10 mins of him going but we seemed to adjust well - Aiken and McMaster showed a lot of maturity and even though ICT pressed more we didnt look all that likely to concede. Glad we held on after we did lose one, Caley fans will argue that a draw was a fair result, I’m thinking we deserved the win.. just. I’m agreeing with an earlier observation, Frizz has to be really careful. He also has an obligation as Captain to be more streetwise and he’s now getting to the point where he could be singled out with refs. Thinking it’s inevitable that Telfer will return for next week if he’s healthy and this now looks like a really tough game to get anything from but who knows. McMaster getting MOTM - I won’t have any complaints about that and I think there’s been a couple of games where he deserved it. Time to get the pen out for Dean and get him tied up. think the new signing is exciting, obviously someone that none of us know but he seems to come with the right reputation and attitude so who knows. Still maintain that we need a little more experience and maybe this is the week to make that kind of signing to help at Tannadice. todays result leaves Inverness rooted at the bottom after Morton gives a shit show performance against Arbroath - I’m definitely keeping the attitude of looking after ourselves and not worrying about other teams but right now we are giving a good account of ourselves and maybe it’s especially important that on day when we didn’t play our best we got 3 points. Going to need that on a few occasions this season. Roll on next Saturday, can’t wait
  8. Holy shit. Don’t tell me yooz lot are about to get beat off Arbroath? surely you’ll turn it around??
  9. I agree that the first 11 is able to handle a majority of teams in the league. But, we are missing players is certain positions and we WILL get injuries/suspensions. If that were to happen, I’d be happier with an experienced player coming in rather than GavGal (yes, I nicknamed him). No harm to the boy and I’m sure long term he’ll come good but we absolutely have to sign some better quality players. I take others points, there is some time. But if we’re sitting in the same position recruitment wise this time next month then I’m going to be fearful of how things pan out up until the January window opens. The only thing that gives me confidence is Rhys. He’s a sensible guy with ambition and the last thing he needs on the resume is relegation on his first outing to the Championship. He surely knows what’s needed, he needs to find those players - the sooner the better
  10. I’m really please for JD and I’m hopeful this young man has a big future. Yeah, the strike against Falkirk was a stinger. This whole move has been slow to materialize although I believe it hasn’t hindered our ability to sign others but now that some extra cash (how much is uncertain) has become available the vast majority must be made available for recruitment, especially since we didn’t make it the Quarters of the LC. I have full faith in Rhys and Dycey but it would be great to sign a ‘known’ player at this level or higher. All the performances have shown that we can compete and 2 or 3 quality signings will give me every confidence of finishing mid-table or higher. We’ve now lost Smith and JD and their quality needs to be replaced so we can truly say we are strengthening
  11. I’m agreeing with this 100%. Based on his recent performances and how much he has progressed I’d be in favour of adding a couple of years to his existing contract. I think this is a lad who will have a lot of interest come the end of the season.
  12. I have to say I’m totally surprised that QP have started perfectly but not surprised that they took 3 points from Arbroath or that Arbroath are now anchored at the bottom. Already they are in trouble and heads must be down. You have to figure that QP at home will be one of their better opportunities to get off the mark. I’m not expecting a run of wins from us, but to stay undefeated over the next 3 or 4 games would be a good achievement.
  13. If you look at this game with the glass half empty, maybe just maybe with a couple of quality additions we might have won this tie. But yes, it’s hard to complain after a great showing from the lads. Easy to take the positives and again, same as last week, I’d give everyone pass marks. McMaster was easily our best player but Gal did well against a physical side intent on making sure he had a tough afternoon. O’Connor played really well tbf and in ET, after fighting for a ball in midfield and chasing it down to the goal line, his cross was met with no Airdrie players at all. I honestly think nobody thought he was going to reach the ball and make the cross. He’s got pace and a lot of heart, hoping this performance helps him kick on. Friz, Janny etc gave their usual 100% and in the end it was the physicality and smart play from RC that won the day. More than enough to see we will be competitive in the Championship this year - just a shame we aren’t in the hat to pick up some extra cash in the LC.
  14. Was hoping for this exact tie… what was the chances of it coming up?!?!? Need to be a stato for those odds but really pleased it came up, not too far away from home and something a wee bit different and obviously expecting us to win. Foreign team in the next round please if they are still there For the Connor Smith deal I’m not surprised to see him avoid the Accies. Said earlier he would be wasting his time in L1 when obviously there would be Championship teams most likely offering the same deal as Hamilton and Hearts will want him at the highest level. Hoping his brother, the playoff experience and the geography of the whole thing helps our situation. He is most definitely a player I’d love us to have. And for Gods sake, can the club just conclude this Devenny deal so everyone can move along - would be disappointing if there wasn’t some kind of movement, either coming or going, before the weekend
  15. Fancy Falkirk to win it this year, I’m sure Hamilton will make the playoffs. The other two I’m unsure of. I’m just hoping to stay away from that cluster f*** scenario. Hamilton haven’t experienced L1 for a long time, I’m sure they are in for a surprise and the Falkirk fans will be only too happy to share the nightmare of their story over the last 5 years. No guarantees in that league at all
  16. Maybe but if it’s preventing us from strengthening before the weekend then that isn’t good since Saturdays result could bring us a money spinning tie against one of the ugly sisters. Time to get the Devenny business done and bring in the new faces if we have them lined up. Cmon Airdrie..
  17. I have to agree with this - yes, it would be very sad if we couldn’t compete financially with Accies but surely WE have the advantage because of Championship status. And because of this, surely Smith would want to play in an Airdrie team facing a much higher level of competition every week? I get that money talks but if Hearts really want Smith to progress, surely he will end up in the second flight and not battling in a L1 Hamilton side that will most likely achieve a playoff place at best. If I was Smith that would feel like a step backwards and a year lost
  18. I’ll admit, I was one of the fans who had him as a ‘maybe’. If he stays, then fine but he wont be a regular starter. Took about 2 weeks to dispel that one
  19. Thought today was actually a really good performance for everyone and I’d give everyone pass marks but for me Ballantyne, ATS, Frizz had outstanding games. Gal was off the boil again in the first half and Ballantyne was clearly frustrated with the non pass at the second chance. But it was a game of 2 halves for him and finally, it looks like he’s back. And guess what? We win… McMaster looked really good, Rae had a solid game but I got the fear every time he came chasing out his box, Rhys was playing well until the injury and I’m fearful for the outcome of that. Very glad to see the boys remaining composed after losing the gaffer - everyone stuck in. I think the earlier comment about Dycey is merited, he can be a bit slow on the ball but hopefully he gets used to the better quality and tempo in this league. He has to be careful. Again, I was concerned with the deep passing and playing out from the back - only took 2 and a half minutes for us to give away possession and get put under pressure early. But overall, I think this worked much better today, particularly in the second half. We just didn’t seem to be comfortable with it at EEP but today was different. Not converting the early chances and the ref not giving the ‘goal’, I was afraid it was going to be one of those days. Now we’ve managed to get our first win I’m hopeful the boys get a lot of confidence from this but I’ll be the first one to admit that despite the win, the pen needs to be out asap. Gabby back but McCabe surely out for a spell - we need strengthening. Great win, big 3 points…. Roll on next week
  20. https://t.co/I4M9LhO5Bw Reading the Record piece about Saturdays loss and Rhy’s interview - could only think about the ‘playing it out from the back’ argument. Looks like the man will stick to his plans
  21. Agreed. Was thinking how much we missed Todorov yesterday. We need a big striker in to give us more options up front imo. If Rhys had somebody lined up, now is the time to make the move. Jags will be heavy favorites as it stands
  22. Too many times the ball ended up getting passed out to Dycey who then pumped it up the line while getting chased down by a Dunfermline player. Ultimately, the same result as a kick out. Yeah, sometimes we’ll get a chance to find a player in midfield with space but right now it doesn’t seem that the risk is worth the reward. Just my humble opinion but if it starts to work then I can see the benefit. Right now it looks like this tactic will cost us goals
  23. This. Even though I’ve seen McGregor shoot past a lot of defenders in previous matches he just wasn’t at the races today. Got out muscled constantly and was ineffective for large chunks of the game. O’Connor wasn’t much better, this is a real are of opportunity for Rhys. I’m not sure these boys are obvious starters. They are young and developing but the Championship might just be beyond them yet. And I need to echo what’s been said previously about our passing out from the back. PLEASE, PLEASE stop fvcking about. My heart was in my mouth several times today with the passing going on. ATS is fairly solid but clearly unable to take on and beat 99% of players. Great at reading the game and spreading a pass but the pace isn’t there. The team tried hard but McGill and Toddy being out hurt badly. And yes, we are at least 3 signings short from what I can see. If we have another addition and see some injured players return then who knows what we can do next week but expecting Thistle to show up wanting all 3 points
  24. I’ve heard his name but don’t know too much about him. Seems like a sensible signing and definitely not a young laddie but presumably got something to learn. Background at Fulham as a boy too, could be a very good signing
  25. Just say, ‘as important as this meeting is, I have a much more important and pressing engagement with a fountain pen’. Simple. need a keeper but hoping for a defender
