  1. My wee dogs had a great play with this big dog today. It appears that size doesn't matter a jot to dogs!
  2. Massively overly simplified, but I read an article lately (England and Wales based only if I remember correctly). 42% of marriages in the survey/poll ended in divorce. It then broke the sample down to those surveyed who only stayed together due to kids/religion/financial or other societal pressures. The take away was that happy marriages are in the minority. Personally, I've been married once, completed that game early and will never play it again. Also, despite some individuals thinking to the contrary, my two kids are happier with Mum and Dad apart and are flourishing for it. A split marriage doesn't equate to a split in parental responsibility.
  3. Didn't watch the game on PPV as had other things to do today. Early doors, but everything MM is saying is giving me a good feeling about United just now. A few more signings needed I think, but he is definitely doing well coaching the players at his disposal just now.
  4. Sad times. I'm the next town down from Stoney and use the rail service regularly to head to work in Aberdeen and also to visit family in Dundee. The staff on the train have always been sound. Thoughts with their family and friends.
  5. That's my worry too. I've seen examples of no doubt well intentioned people pick really shit pitches during the current situation. The best (worst!) examples were within the Lawers nature reserve, a few metres from open hillside and in Glen Doll directly under no overnight parking signs (which you could argue about the legality of, but that's a different argument). Hopefully a broad brush isn't used to tar the majority who camp responsibility.
  6. I like the strip. More importantly, my bairns love it. Great cause too.
  7. Give or take a few feet, I've camped at that very spot a few times. Great pitch.
  8. Arrived at Lawers car park about 9am this morning and managed to get a space in the car park. Went up Meall nan Tarmachan and back over the ridge and only met a handful of folk. I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few cars dotted around but nothing exceptional. It's been years since I've been there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Monday is my new walking day!
  9. I hover about 10kg. Laser Comp 2 if I'm camping solo or a Zephyros 2 if I take the dugs. I've used a tarp a few times, which is a great compromise between tent and bivvy, but if there are midges, you are still goosed!
  10. Went up Bienn Ghlas and Ben Lawers today as the MWIS forecast was good. Usually get good views from there and apart from the summits, it was bang on. Was there reasonably early, but it wasn't as busy as I've seen it before. Busy lower down but me and a guy walking at similar places had the tops to ourselves and only I only met a couple of others on the way down. Hopefully things are calming down a bit
  11. Same here. I carry a map & compass in a waterproof pouch and keep a GPS in my pack as back up. Doesn't matter how busy a hill it is, I'd rather know where I am if and when the weather takes a turn.
  12. Sorry for your loss mate. It's horrible. 16/17 years is a decent innings and he looked happy. You did a good job
  13. I had a great night wild camping a few days ago before the hoardes appeared (better tents appear with no dugs to content with, usually a Laser Comp). Today I was turned back from Loch Muick and Mar Lodge. Scunnered as was looking forward to a good pitch.
  14. I'm from Dundee and will never wear a Timex on principle. Your SKX is looking grand in the sun. Does yours have the infamous misaligned chapter ring or is it the angle of the photo? I changed mine to sterile chapter rings.
  15. The dugs enjoyed a wild camp last night.
  16. Assuming he means Lochee, it shows some level of ignorance to call it a scheme, given it was effectively a separate town from Dundee itself for a long period of time. It was known as Little Tipperary, which gives a clue as to it's heritage. Strangely, a big percentage of Dundee supporters I personally know also come from Lochee.
  17. The Hutchy Hut is my favourite and I've always been lucky enough to have it to myself. Corrour is good too. Yeah, a lonely bothy night is character building if nothing else Mountain Days and bothy nights is probably a more "authentic" read about bothies than The Bothy Bible"!
  18. Two Cairn Terriers chilling out in their natural environment! Fair play to them, they took a 18km walk and a Munro in their stride today in particularly hot weather. Fortunately a river accompanied the majority of the walk for keeping them cool.
  19. Got out of my bed really early this morning and made it in to Glen Doll. Tents everywhere around the car park and rubbish piled up. I picked up and binned a handful of dog shit bags dumped next to the trail on the way back, which hadn't been filled by my dogs. When I got back to the car, a fresh supply of tents had arrived. The field over from the Clova Inn was packed with cars and families walking on the road out from the car park. Mental. Went up Broad Cairn, but didn't go on to Cairn Bannoch as the dugs were struggling with the heat. Not a drop of wind high up. I'm sunbunt big time. Only met a few folk on the way up and down. A great day apart from the car park! Bothies - I do like a bothy, but tend to stick to midweek if I can to avoid the masses. I probably prefer my tent tbh.
  20. I thought I'd wait til the second weekend after the five mile travel limit was lifted as it wouldn't be as busy but I wish I'd gone last week when it was raining pretty constantly. I've already set an alarm for 6am next Saturday. Yep, I had my walk pretty much to myself last weekend. Alarm set for 6am tomorrow and hopefully I beat the masses. A midweek camp should be good too.
  21. I had to turn back from Glen Clova this morning. I've never seen traffic like that there. I didn't even make the turn off at the Clova Inn. Umpteen camper vans and families out for the day. Can't wait for normality to return. Early night tonight and up early in the morning to stand a chance, or wait for Monday.
  22. Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch from Glen Doll for me tomorrow. I anticipate being sore.
  23. Aye, binned myself off it too. It used to be ok which is a shame.
  24. I've got a few "proper" nice watches, but I've got in to the modding thing. Cheap and cheerful and a little bit different. To be honest, I take more enjoyment from these watches that I've taken apart and changed or built from scratch myself than a premium watch.
