  1. Cowdenbeath was the first ground I went to after moving to Edinburgh and started groundhopping. Now done 40 of the 42 + some non-league and it's still one of my favourites, plus a really good away trip from Edinburgh - quick direct train, short walk to ground and pubs en route. Will be there tomorrow and should be a cracker.
  2. Don't know if TV and that kick off time will affect getting the bus and a driver, but I suppose at least now there's the option to maybe watch it all together in the social club and get a really big group together for that?
  3. Arbroath away then. Not a great draw but at least it's relatively close. Chance of a Steak and Black Pudding pie too...
  4. For the fans it has to be a big away day. For me personally, Ireland would be the best, Wales next, and any other new ground still pretty good. Don't want a trip to England.
  5. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get to a game yet this season, other than the bus to Motherwell in the cup. But I get to put that right now and will be at the next two, away to Peterhead and then the bus to East Kilbride. From what I've seen and heard though, this is shaping up to be a much better season than the last few and we should be challenging at the right end of the table this time. There's goals in Henderson and Shepherd, real quality supporting them in attacking midfield, and the defence is sounding pretty solid. Without wanting to jinx anything, I think this will be an exciting season. Next week at Peterhead will be a tough ask, but I'm looking forward to making the trip.
  6. Just out of interest, is Kyle Cameron any good? Just signed for Torquay to play in the National League South. Left footed centre back?
  7. As a Torquay fan (now living in Edinburgh and getting to know my new local side), McGinty is definitely a level above Balatoni. He started every single league and cup game in his two years for us, was our captain last year and was offered a new contract. His spell coincided with us being an absolute mess, skint and fighting relegation both years, but he was relatively stable given what was going on around him, and it was the lack of quality around him that brought relegation. Balatoni arrived in January and played 16 times - doing ok but not excelling. McGinty is a no nonsense type defender - big, physical and good in the air. With 4 goals last season he could have been our top goalscorer, but we signed a striker on 16th March that scored 6 goals in 7 starts and he ended up winning it. Biggest flaw is definitely when he's on the ball and distribution - his hoofs up the pitch nowhere near anyone were a running frustration, but if you don't ask much of him on the ball his other attributes make up for it. I'll be curious to see how he gets on, and will try to take in a Thistle game whilst groundhopping.
  8. Quite a strange signing for me - I'm a Torquay United fan now living in Edinburgh, and never expected to see a player move from one club to the other. He was a bit of an unknown quantity for Torquay fans when he signed six months ago, but seemed to have a decent pedigree compared to most of our other signings. It's fair to say he didn't set the world alight and was released at the end of the season, but played 16 games and held down his place in the team for most of his spell. Torquay are a mess at the moment and without a pot to piss in, so moving right down to the West Country in January to a team in the relegation zone must have been a last chance saloon to keep a professional career alive, and he's now accepted that he's going to be part-time in the future. Great news for City, as despite not being fantastic for Torquay, he did at least hold his own in a full-time league. In recent times, it's more often to see a player go from the National League to the Prem (well, ok, just half the Motherwell side, but the success rate is quite high). The other ex-Torquay players I've seen play in Scotland - Ryan Bowman, Jayden Stockley, Anthony O'Connor - have all been in the Premiership, so it's a big signing for City to get him on a 2 year deal, aged 27. From the games I've seen in the last two seasons, I think he'll play a similar role to how Beattie was used, and will improve what's been a weak area in the side.
