So basically my background is that I'll go see a few Hearts games, plus Clyde too as they are my local team.

But my real passion is non league footie......so most Saturdays I can be seen at a LL/WOS/EOS/SOS.....even a Highland game in order to see every team in the country.  There's often no rhyme or reason to it.

Basically whatever fixture takes my fancy, regardless of distance, I will make my way there.

    How bout you?

My plan is to see the new clubs in the WoSFL.

I accept most of them will be playing in some public park cage type thingy the first season anyway. So that's part one.

Second will to keep an eye on the fight for promotion at the top.  Monies on Talbot but i expect a few others to make it hard for them.

I liked to see Talbot go up just to see the strength of the rest without the Talbot monkey on their backs.

The rest of the decade should be interesting as the dead wood from the SFL start to come down.

Clyde v Cumbernauld Utd in a league game?

Funny you should say Macrihanish.  It's one of three Campbelltown memories I have.

    1)  My recently passed dad loved golf and he took (a young me) round Macrihanish course where he played a round.

    2)  Being young I was captivated by a place called (I think) - The Chocolate Box.....does what it says on the tin.......probably long gone.

    3)  There was also a cinema....not sure if it's still there.  Me and my cousins went to see something like ....Rocket Man back in the 90's.

Rock and roll lifestyle I used to live!!!

Bit young for this forum, are you not?

If anyone on this thread knows Russell Pryde, now former President of Civil Service Strollers, then please pass the thanks and respect of the overwhelming majority of Sons fans who are vehemently opposed to the introduction of ANY Colt Clubs to the Scottish football pyramid.  It's good to know that amongst the myriad chancers and naive fools in the game that people of principle are willing to take a stand.

Obviously you don't know much about the LL.

Even if it's allowed, it's utterly immoral and disgraceful. It can't ever be respected, these clubs are selfish c*nts and I wouldn't mind if some of them go bust now after their betrayal. If outside pressure can end up stopping this plan it would be great. There is no guarantee a boycott will have the desired effect, but it's worth a try.

    Boycott what exactly?

We will join the pyramid from next season. Finally there will be a pyramid that covers all of Scotland after all the work, pain and arguments that happened about it. I was finally looking forward to leaving the past behind us and more on. Now the entire integrity of the pyramid is thrown in the bin.

Enjoy the Highland League when you finally get there.

  6. 6 minutes ago, Marten said:

They shouldn't have the right the screw over the pyramid and allow 2 clubs to overtake all the clubs below the LL. It's a disgrace that this plan has even been put to a vote and all the outrage is fully justified. Anyone voting for this or even respecting this decision doesn't care about the integrity of the pyramid and Scottish lower league football in general.

What difference does it make to you.

When did Lochee Utd join the pyramid?

    • I think 'one club, one team' should be a principle of all league systems. Yes, there are effectively some 'B' teams further down the pyramid and I'm not in favour of them being there either. But at least they started at the bottom and there are rules concerning how far they can go.
    • I don't think teams should be able to 'quasi-compete' in any league where their positions but not their results against other clubs are wiped at the end of the season. The proposal is to make LL clubs play against these teams who are effectively not competing in their league. They're essentially friendly matches for one side but not the other. Again, it should be a fundamental principle of all leagues that clubs are competing on the same footing from the start. Having it this way devalues the league as a competition.
    • The OF have bought their way into the pyramid. Again, it should just be fairly clear that clubs shouldn't be able to pay to enter whatever tier of the pyramid they like.

I know the proposal is for just one season but you'd have to be pretty thick to not realise this isn't the OF trying to get their foot in the door to have colt sides permanently in the SPFL. I think all attempts to make this happen should be resisted. And not just the OF, any clubs who try to do it. And you can say it's a LL decision for LL clubs but the pyramid is here and because clubs can now move up or down and move between leagues governed by different bodies, these kinds of decisions potentially affect any club in the pyramid.

I'll support yer idea if you support automatic relegation out of SFL2.

    No playoffs, straight relegation.

You seem to be confusing me, a supporter of East Fife Football Club, with East Fife Football Club.

I've never been in favour of the SPFL being a closed shop. What are you on about the penny dropping? I'm aware, and have been for some time, that there are now many tiers below East Fife's current position that they can drop into.

I'm not sure who you support, is it Talbot? Do you think anything would be any different if Talbot (or any other WoSFL club for that matter), by some quirk of fate, had gotten into the Scottish Football League a century ago instead of East Fife? No, it wouldn't. They'd have taken their place in the closed shop and kept it.

    Gordon rewind a minute.

What exactly is the problem with Colts in the LL?

  9. 2 hours ago, Gordon EF said:

You're free to your opinion. I'm not trying to convince anyone or twist any arms. It's not really about supporting the Lowland League though. It's about supporting clubs who're trying to do the right thing. Personally, I don't think the best response to self-interest is even more self-interest.

And you think East Fife and a whole host of others haven't self interest in this Colts story.

Don't even go there with the sporting integrity line.

East Fife have been in closed shop since the first day they joined the league.

    Now the penny has dropped.

Two or three bad seasons and who would East Fife be playing and in what league?

Remember there's something below the Lowland League.

Ask Berwick Rangers, one bad season and they could be playing in the EoSFL

Last night, Lowland League clubs gave an indicative vote in favour of admitting old firm colt sides into the Lowland League for season 2021/22. 11 clubs voted for and 5 voted against. Assuming no clubs change their minds, this will pass at the Lowland League AGM next week.

There are plenty of threads on here discussing the merits or otherwise of colt sides in the Scottish football pyramid and this isn't a thread for this.

I'm trying to encourage all Scottish football fans from every club and every level of the pyramid who is against colt sides to commit to supporting those Lowland League clubs who vote against the colt proposal next week by attending at least one of their home games next season or buying a ticket via the donate a ticket website. The idea is to choose one home fixture for each club who votes against the colts and ideally, give them a sell out crowd (assuming we're allowed back into games by next season) and for those who can't make the game for whatever reason but still want to show their support, to donate online.

If this is a goer, I'll select fixtures where the Lowland League 'good guys' play against each other, once the fixtures are announced, and one home game will be chosen for each club. It'd be great to get out and show our moral and financial support for those clubs willing to stand up for the integrity of Scottish football and aren't willing to sell out their league for £3k. At around £8 per ticket, just 375 extra fans through the gate would be more than the OF are willing to pay each LL club to use their league as practice.

    I've started a petition here: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/notocoltsides

It'd be great if everyone willing to do this could sign it. It's a way to gauge numbers and communicate with folk who're interested. Hopefully, if it takes off, a few Lowland League clubs who indicated they'll vote for this might reconsider (I doubt it but you never know).

The good guys are: Bonnyrigg Rose, Bo'ness United, Civil Service Strollers, Dalbeattie Star, and Edinburgh University.

You do know Gordon you are in the WoSFL forum.

This is the clubs below the LL.

You know the same LL that has one relegation place and 160 clubs below that.

Why anybody would support the LL from this end is beyond me.

    Be gone, you Seaside Leaguer.

  11. Wonder when the 3 leagues will ask why there's only one promotion space for 3 possible teir 6 Champions in the Lowland League.

Anybody that thinks this a true pyramid is sadly mistaken.

One team relegated from the Lowland League, at that rate it could take a club 20 years to reach the Lowland League.

You need to win say the EoSFL then fight it with the WoSFL and the SoSFL

    One team out of 150.

    Pyramid, yer having a giraffe.

You're right - if a team simply changes its name it'll have very little effect in the grand scheme of things, and so many clubs seem to be locked into archaic ways of getting their name out there...next to no online presence, relying on A4 sheets of paper blutacked up in a handful of local pubs advertising forthcoming games and subsequently wondering why it's only the same old faces that show up every fortnight.

It says a lot that I lived just off Byres Road for about six years before I even knew Lochburn Park existed...hopefully we've got a bit better at making ourselves known since then.

Specifically with the Town, changing the name to a Glasgow-wide one is unlikely to encourage many people to start going from the southside or wherever...the bulk of their support will probably still come from the wider east end and I'd have thought it would have been better to reflect that in any new name rather than the painfully vanilla one they've chosen.

Btw, do Broomhill still claim to be a Glasgow team?

  13. 2 hours ago, Hillonearth said:

I can see why they've done it - there's a lot of teams whose names don't really reflect their catchment area and are a wee bit limiting. We're one of them...going by where most of our support comes from, our catchment is a huge chunk of the north west of the city from the centre out to maybe Milngavie that includes the whole west end of Glasgow, but the name of the club only reflects part of that area.

In this case though they've chosen such a bland, generic name it could ultimately work against them...IMO they'd have been better rebranding to something with a bit of soul that reflects their place in the community of the east end of the city where there always historically has been a lot of local pride.

Something as simple as Glasgow East End would have sufficed.

Doubt it would any loss to the average ex Junior team to rebrand.

A crowd to most of them was/is on a good day a 100 punters.

Less family and friends it's a loss making exercise regarding gate money.

Rebrand/don't rebrand, doubt it would make any difference unless a sugar daddy appeared.

As for the catchment area gig, only thing i can think of one thing to get noticed would be a winning team.

For example, Maryhill would need to reach the Lowland League to get any serious recognition.

And oh into the Big Scottish.

    Maryhill v Partick Thistle anyone.

I was reading a paper from the day after the 2nd replay and it mentioned that there was a murder on a Glasgow to London train on the Friday before the 1979 match with the Auld Enemy at Wembley on the Saturday. A 20 year old from Cumnock was killed on an overcrowded BR football special...Any recollection of a febrile atmosphere on the way down to London in 79? Has there been a P&B thread on Auld Enemy recollections? I think that would be great thread...

By 1979 those football special trains leaving Glasgow were ned central.

I'm talking gangs here. Every pavement pirate/pickpocket in Glasgow was aboard those trains. Might seems a bit odd now but other than the British Rail special trains the bigger supporters groups in Scotland ran their own trains. And quite rightly too. I think the Rangers Supporters Association at one point had six special trains going to Wembley . Celtic had four and Hearts and Hibs one each. Sure Aberdeen ran a train. Remember that was on top of anything British Rail put on. You were risking life and limb on a British Rail train to Wembley unless of course you  were a paid member of the Bridgeton Derry/Cumbie/Maryhill Fleet/Shamrock gang. Think there was a number of stabbing/slashing incidents in 75/77/79. Add in 300/400 buses departing from various pubs across Scotland all meeting up in those motorway service stations. Certainly wasn't for the faint hearted.

I personally never went back after 1979.
