What a crock of horseshit, to be blunt. 1 - Everyone here wants McCabe to succeed. 2 - It's not unreasonable for fans to hope for their club to improve their playing squad. Like everyone else, we aspire to forward momentum, not to step backwards. 3 - It's also not unreasonable to expect a team to have sufficient numbers of competent players in their squad, something the other 41 teams, with one or two possible exceptions, appear to have accomplished. So the real question is not on the intangibles that we can't measure as we don't have sight of them (transfer targets, effort expended etc), it's the objective fact that we are now into competitive fixtures and at best running with 2 senior player subs, one of whom is a goalkeeper, as well as having to field kids as successful recruitment has been minimal. No hand waving or blaming fans changes the fact that this squad needs strengthened in order to have a chance of maintaining last seasons momentum.

Didn't manage to make the game due to work commitments, however good to see one of the academy players getting a start already, despite the fact that we really shouldn't be in this position. I note the absence of Gallagher from the team sheet (is he injured?) and cant help but wonder if his finishing would have made the difference given the match stats being discussed.

2.5 weeks until first league game. Surely we don't have to wait till xmas to get some signings

Have occasionally wondered if it might be financially beneficial for scottish clubs to go play in the english pyramid. Has to be more interesting than playing the same team 4-10 times per season at least.

My hot take is this - no need to panic over a closed door game with a bunch of randoms being fielded. The Hamilton closed door game literally didnt matter. however, the club/mccabe need to get their finger out and get the first 11 sorted, as well as some players for the bench and necessary coach before the first competitive fixture, and time is running out for that, particularly concerning given that we shouldnt be signing any old dross but are in a climate where the odd manager here and there are complaining that there's a smaller pool to draw from.

They need to find some ink for the pen I presume at this point we are going to be treated to a 20 minute exposé about reinstalling the goalposts, and then going by this thread, some sort of article about the youth set-up before any signing news. Would like to be wrong though!

When we released the makeweights from the squad (Jordan Allan etc) I had a bit of positivity that this meant we were looking at bringing in a better calibre of player. Unfortunately, the list of available players who would improve the squad seem to be rapidly evaporating, and we are now starting to discuss players who aren't any better than we had on the bench last year, which is not a good place to be. Would like to see some signing news soon rather than telling raith rovers fans etc about last seasons squad.
