100% this. Couldn't have said it better. This is exactly the sort of proactive approach we should be making in the run up to the start of 21/22 season. From what I've heard from them over the last couple of years I have faith that our president and committee agree and remain confident that we can make every success of this.
For that game against Clyde with the letter/Christmas card drop in the local area, there’s no harm in employing a similar tactic. Letter dropping the immediate area and letting people know you’re there. Why not some sort of mission statement, explain the clubs change in circumstances, the change to professionalism and the move to lesser Hampden. Advertise themselves as a club that really is for everyone in Glasgow. People do (I think so anyway) want a real alternative to Celtic and Rangers. I think local people would get behind an ambitious club that wants to have strong ties with the community.
Similarly I think the move to Lesser will also help. When Glasgow Warriors moved to Scotstoun from Firhill it felt like a big positive step, coupled with an emerging group of very good players and improving results it lead to a surge in attendance, then theneed for additional stands behind the posts and the culmination was the club being on the crest of a wave that carried them to its first championship title and making 2 other pro 12/14 finals in a 5 year period. There’s no reason why Queens Park can’t make similar positive strides.0 -

My son who's a season ticket holder with no email address got a letter through last week, and I'm a Member on the email list, but I got my details in the post yesterday.Has anyone else who is a member or season ticket holder not got their letter about accessing the streamed games?
I'm hoping that members will have access to cup games included too, but don't know if that will be extended to Season ticket holders.0 -
My understanding was that we only got as much as £5m because we gave them the option of paying in instalments. The SFA didn't have/couldnt afford/weren't willing to pay the full amount of their share in a lump sum so if we hadn't agreed to annual payments then we would have got a lower offer. I dont know what the difference would have been, but I'm taking it that we went for whichever option gave us the highest total in the long run.It’s not really £5m in real terms. There’s 8 annual payments of £250kpa due to start after the first two years of the deal. At an average 2% inflation over those ten years there’s about £400k in real terms lost due to inflation. I recollect the reason for this protracted payment plan was it would “help our cash flow”. Putting it in our bank and letting it attract interest would have helped the cash flow. Allowing the SFA 10 years to settle their already paltry offer wasn’t great negotiations.
But we were just Amateurs then, right? And the 5-6 years before that when the Negotiators should have been positionIng themselves with a strong hand, rather than a fistful of hope. Everything’s changed significantly now. Not least the introduction of a so-called benefactor with a dubious past, now with a bought and paid for heritage and landowner for another Glasgow football club. No conflict of interest there. The gentlemen who met at 3 Eglinton Terrace must be spinning in their graves.
One thing I never quite picked up was whether Haughy and Hunter gave their contribution direct to us, or gave it to the SFA who will in turn use it to make their payments to us.
If it's the latter, it's possible that they are paying the SFA in instalments, which could be another reason why we didn't get it all in a lump sum.
All in all, the SFA got it for a song, but we are where we are and now have an opportunity to create a new ground far better suited to our needs.3 -

Ha ha, yes I once had that same email too.I've heard of others that have same issue. I was sent an e-mail asking for my e-mail adress once.

The SFA only paid about half of that, the other half was made up by 2 generous benefactors. If it wasnt for them we might not have come to an agreement at all.That seems really low, is there a reason for it?
Long story, but they were able to get it so cheap as there were a number of historical debts from the refurb years ago (Lottery grants and debentures). Those debts will never need repaid if it remains the National Stadium, but if the SFA decided not to renew their lease and go elsewhere, then we would suddenly be about £20m in the hole, which would obviously cripple us. Basically the SFA had us over a barrel knowing we'd almost no option but to sell for far less than its value.
You could argue that as the SFA now take on those debts then the value of the deal was much higher, but unless they sell Hampden they'll never have to repay them.3 -
JUST a paltry £5m I'm afraid.Its being paid in instalments over a number of years (10?), so it's not like we're sitting with all that in the bank to play with. The initial payment is funding the redevelopment of Lesser, and the ongoing yearly instalments will be part of our income each year similar, but lower than, the rent we used to get from the SFA.Just out of interest, how much did you sell Hampden for? Was it just five million, or are you still entitled to some revenue from concerts, etc?
The SFA now own Hampden and we have no stake in it, so we get no revenue from anything taking place on the stadium.
I think that's all right, but I'm sure others will correct anything I've got wrong.1 -
Good first half for Queens (Park). Stream quality has been pretty good and the commentary sounds quite professional, though they could do with some sort of noise gate to ballance out the audio spikes when they get excited. All went to pot when they switched camera at half time though and now can't hear anything.

Also, do you plan to do a separate weekly video for each league once (if?) they all restart, or will you combine them all into one video? If the latter, and depending on how in depth you plan to go, then there's a lot to squeeze in to 40 mins.
I should say that I did enjoy the two videos I watched, so please consider my comments as feedback on how to improve rather than criticism of the podcast.

I agree (not just because there wasn't much time spent on QP). I also watched the league 1 preview and felt it too was pretty rushed towards the end. Assuming it's not streamed live and that the issue is down to time limits on zoom, are you able to edit together two calls into one video.Really good pod but I’d perhaps look at increasing your time limit as you barely spoke about Queen‘s. I think this is due to a zoom call only being 40 mins.0 -

At Lesser just now as son is training, so got a chance to have a close up look. Each season is marked on the top.
Even seeing it in person I think it'll take me a bit of getting used to.
The wee man however already wants it yesterday.

With the exception of a few office staff that may still be furloughed and obviously the playing/coaching staff, the whole club is run by volunteers.
I’m sure you are but this should not be down to the VOLUNTEERS from the media team to sort out. This should be a top priority for the club to sort out. Otherwise the club will piss off a lot of members and season ticket holder and risk becoming a laughing stock.
And as I said if you’re looking for help from supporters to cover games you only need to ask.
I expect it's the committee that will be responsible for looking into streaming options and as far as I know none of the committee are paid and so are doing their duties in their own time.
This is new territory for everyone and we need to be patient and give them a chance to explore all the options.
I doubt it's as simple as just asking for volunteers to point cameras at the pitch. There may be plenty of willing volunteers (especially as it's an excuse to be at the games in person) but we can't just take the first folk to put their hand up, we need people that know what they're doing and that can commit the time to do it regularly. I dont think it's a stretch to expect that if our first stream doesn't go well due to volunteers not being competent with the technology, then this forum will be full of posts complaining about it.
To be clear, I'm not for a minute suggesting that we don't have any competent people that could volunteer, just that it may take time to identify and train them.
We're a few weeks away from the first home game, and it sounds like work has been going on behind the scenes for a while already, so I'm hopefull we'll have something in place by then.0 -
New kit ordered on Monday and arrived today. Can't ask for better than that.
Looks great in person (was a bit undecided on it in some of the pictures) Quality is great, very similar to the under armour kit, but costs less than the UA ones did.
Plus, given that we'll likely be watching the Queens on our screens rather than in person over the winter, you can sport it at home and not need to cover it up with 'the big jaiket fir the ftba'
(Scarf sales may be down this season however)0 -
I was sorry we couldn't hold on to him (though very happy with who we've brought in to replace him) He'll do well with Thistle and wish him all the best. He works hard, helps out with effectively defending at corners, and most importantly scores goals. Seems to be a good guy too, always had time to chat to fans at the end of games etc. (that might not be allowed for a while).
I think he’ll do well. Scored against you last year in Betfred Cup. One of many headers he scored.
I was hoping we would get Livi in one of the cups as we never got the chance to give him a send off, so I hope we're allowed to be at the Bedford group game (though not holding out much hope)

We've been using the Nether Pollok playing fields for things like youth traing etc while Lesser is under renovation. Probably why you saw so many hooped shirts about.Cycling through Pollok Park this morning I saw a lot of your youngsters about, wearing the distinctive, and rather dapper, thin black and white hoops. It occurred to me you probably spend quite a lot of money on the youth set up, and perhaps the Strollers. Hopefully in the future that will pay off.
Queens Park is a club I've always liked, and I genuinely hope this works out and look forward to some away days in the future.
Glad to see some of the locals have noticed them, anything to raise awareness that we exist in the community is a good thing.2 -

My hope is that part of the strategy will be to form stronger links between the club/ committe/decision making processes and the members/supporters.
Two common themes on this forum for a while have been frustrations about the clubs communication with members/supporters and the need for more people to get involved and buy into the vision of the club going forward.
If she can tie these things together, along with continued improvement of our community interaction and success of our various playing squads, then she could indeed prove to be our most important 'full time professional' signing.
Time will tell, but at this point I'm very excited about where things are heading.
