  1. I know people over here who went to the same school as him too (no surprise seeing as he grew up a few streets away from where I live), they all basically said he was already a weirdo back then.
  2. A day full of goals across the league, 59 in total, nearly 6 a game on average! Convincing wins for Lochee United, Broughty Athletic & North End, Downfield were 0-0 at HT but got the expected 3 points as well. St. James took another big scalp, a few days after beating Broughty, they now beat Carnoustie, who seem to be out of it now. It's still close at the top, Saturday looks promising with Lochee United visiting Tayport while second meets third with Broughty hosting Downfield.
  3. Lochee United 9-1 Forfar United Well, another game with lots of goals. We started poorly though, a mix-up in defence was punished by the visitors, a well taken goal to be honest. Within 2 minutes we equalised and not long after we were 2-1 up. After about 40 minutes we said to each other that this was our poorest game so far this season, which was right at the time but the players must have heard us because after 2 quick fire goals it was 4-1 at half-time. The second half was excellent. Some players were taken off at 5-1 to save them for Tayport on Saturday. A few good goals resulted in a 9-1 win. Some excellent stuff in the second half. Finishing was excellent.
  4. I haven't made my mind up just yet, but I wouldn't rule it out. It depends on a few things, I don't agree with him on everything (but then again, I can say the same about all others), so I'll wait for his manifesto to see if the things I disagree with are not too difficult for me to hold my nose and vote to get the reforms I believe are needed. Also, it depends on the others that will join his party, most specifically who the candidate for PM will be. But the first impression is that a vote for him is at least an option I'll seriously look at. Edit: worth adding that while some international media labelled him as "conservative", he is only slightly socially conservative for Dutch standards, meaning that for UK standards he is already not really conservative but basically moderately progressive and for US conservative standards he'd probably already be some crazy liberal heretic.
  5. There could be major change at the Dutch General Election on 22nd November (after the coalition collapsed last month). Pieter Omtzigt, who rebelled against his own party CDA (Christian Democrats) after exposing corruption in Dutch politics and questioning actions of the main parties (inluding his own), got kicked out of CDA and continued as an independent MP. He has since been arguing for political reforms that are imo badly needed. On Saturday he announced he'll run in the election with his own party. He has been very popular for some time and immediately took the lead in the polls, his party is now expected to become the largest party. He won't become PM himself as he stated he is not interested in that, he is building a team around him and will announce his party's PM candidate in the near future. https://www.dutchnews.nl/2023/08/pieter-omtzigt-what-does-he-stand-for-politically/
  6. The Tay Road Bridge got opened, I find it interesting how England seem to constantly go on about a bridge between Dundee and Fife. Then again, it does have footballing importance as the original Highland/Lowland League boundary was in the middle of that bridge.
  7. It's very early on obviously but I agree Ajax are poor for their standards. Based on what I've seen so far I'd make PSV title favourites.
  8. Feyenoord also drew their second game, their derby away against Sparta, they were 2-0 down but ultimately equalised in stoppage time. PSV & AZ won 3-1 away at Vitesse & RKC respectively, they are together with FC Twente (3-1 at home against Zwolle) & Heerenveen (2-0 away at Utrecht) the 4 remaining teams on 100%. Two of the promoted teams (Almere & PEC Zwolle) are still on 0, but Heracles picked up their first points of the season at home against NEC.
  9. The seethe about Spain's timewasting/shithousery is something else. England did it worse in their European championship final against Germany. I was at that game (bought tickets & booked a trip well in advance in the hope the Dutch would make it but thinking a final as a neutral is always good). And for that matter, I didn't once blame England for it because had The Netherlands reached the final I'd have wanted the same if we were winning.
  10. In fairness, both stoppages were quite lengthy. Also at some point there was a Spanish player down who needed some treatment. I'm not really surprised with 13 minutes.
  11. Excelsior 2-2 Ajax, I believe only the third time in history we got any points off Ajax, brilliant!
  12. Broughty dropped points for the first time this season with St. James beating them 4-3 in what was clearly the shock of the day. Downfield & Lochee United both had surprisingly convincing wins. Arbroath Vics recovered from what was a very poor set of results for them. As a result, Lochee United have taken over the top position from Broughty as the only remaining unbeaten side in the league.
  13. Kirriemuir Thistle 1-5 Lochee United Another excellent performance. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, Kirrie were tough to beat last season but their results so far suggested they aren't as strong now. Some clinical finishing from our side got us a 3-0 lead at half time. Some key players like Bobby Linn were taken off to give them some rest and the second half was less attractive with the game basically already wrapped off. We scored a fourth, they scored a screamer to get on the scoresheet and we scored another one late on. Again a great team performance with it being difficult to single one single player out for MoM.
  14. I enjoyed my trip there last season (other than the last 60 minutes of the actual game)!
  15. The one thing that let you guys down this episode is the heavy arguing against Linlithgow's red cards. Both were stonewallers. And then the old myth that "denying a goal scoring opportunity" is somehow new and replaced the "last man rule". There literally has never been a "last man rule", it's always been denying a goal scoring opportunity and those fouls have always been reds according to the laws of the game.
  16. German media is reporting that Saudi Arabia have asked UEFA to have teams from their league being allowed into the UEFA Champions League...
  17. I loved my visit to Cumbernauld United when I went there in the 2nd half of last season. As you say, very friendly people there. Lovely ground/surrounding, nice bar, definitely worth a visit.
  18. A surprisingly big win for Lochee United at Scone sees them staying on Broughty's heels, who won again. North End, Tayport and East Craigie all drew and lost some ground, meaning for the first time this season a real top 3 has formed. Carnoustie are definitely on the way back after losing their first 2 games.
  19. He definitely has. It probably sounds strange coming from someone who has just seen his team win 0-7 there while we lost there last season, but they are much better now. Tonight was one of those nights that everything worked out for us, by far our best performance of the season (while last season's defeat was the exact opposite). Obviously I'm delighted with what I saw from us and definitely won't complain, but Scone are much stronger than that scoreline suggests and they will pick up a decent amount of points from the "lesser" teams in the division.
  20. Scone Thistle 0-7 Lochee United Due to being busy at work I was slightly late for kick-off. I was just on time to see the first goal though. The performance was probably the best I've seen all season so far. It was 2-0 at half time and could have been more. The second half was even better and we scored another 5 goals. Kerr Hay scored another hattrick, but the Man of the Match for me was Bobby Linn with 2 goals, 2 assists and playing an important part in the build up to the other goals.
  21. Many of these Putin admirers tick many/all of the "conspiracy nutter" boxes. I remember having a "debate" on the war with one of those on Twitter. I checked his profile and he ticked all these boxes: Believes all pro-Putin/Russia propaganda, even the craziest stuff the Russians themselves wouldn't even put out Anti-vax (not just Covid, just antivax in general) Covid denier Climate change denier Believes Trump won the 2020 election Believes the WEF wants to abolish all countries and form one single world government Believes "15 minute cities" are a conspiracy to lock people in their area forever And a few more I can't immediately think of. About the only thing I didn't see him tweet about (by checking his account for only a few minutes!!) was "flat earth", but I wouldn't be surprised if he was a flat earther too.
  22. This whole war proves the "horseshoe theory" once again. It's the far-left and far-right that are parroting Putin's propaganda.
  23. What I mean is that they can be blamed for not making alternative arrangements. That their park wouldn't be available that date was known well enough in advance.
  24. In this case, I don't think Fort can be blamed for the ground being unavailable. They can be blamed of still having no plan in place less 3 weeks before the tie being played.
  25. Changed? It has never changed, it has always been denying a goal scoring opportunity. The "last man" rule never existed.
