  1. A bit early for my birthday, but Faz has signed for another two years. If you wish hard enough...!
  2. Stenny v Stranraer

We must have been watching different teams. There have been some real fights to the wire in some away games this season, with no heads down even when going behind. I don't think we see the best of the team at home and wonder if the negativity that's prevalent (especially in the gate size) has something to do with morale. At least the team know that the 30-odd people who've travelled to Brechin, say, are well behind them.
  3. I hope we can persuade Faz to stay at the end of the season cause I don't know who else of any calibre would agree to manage a team on such a small budget in front of such a low attendance.
  4. Stranraer v Raith Rovers

It's scheduled for the whole weekend. http://www.scotlandtranserv.co.uk/rescheduled-resurfacing-for-a77-maybole-north-gateway/?platform=hootsuite&fbclid=IwAR1ezkXnikeVABZ0kiwEa7YkbSbk8G7dtO5HmnVBa7nj5E9skUcXwCG__T0
  5. Stranraer v Stenny

The call-off on Saturday was due to a frozen pitch. The forecast milder weather did, as expected, thaw it out and tonight should have been ok, but the volume of rain over several hours was far more than forecast. Well done to the club, getting pitch inspections as early as they were able, but they'll never get it right for some folk! Hope no-one had travelled too far before getting the news it was off. I remember driving from Portpatrick to Inverness for a cup replay. As we arrived we were told there was a pitch inspection!! Fortunately the ref was happy with the snow being swept to the side of the pitch , and pitchforks being wielded at half-time. If it had been called off I'd have pitched a tent on the spot!
  6. Stranraer v Stenny

It's been steady stair-rods but is supposed to slacken off in about an hour.
  7. Airdrie V Stranraer

Any chance you could move this onto a dedicated Airdrionians supporters thread now? Cheers.
  8. Montrose v Stinlar

I think it was started by a poor chinless Ayr supporter who couldn't pronounce Stranraer properly. We patted him on the head and tolerated him. If Ivo has the same problem, he'll find the travelling supporters are kind on the whole.
  9. Stranraer vs Arbroath

At least you only have that journey twice this season...we're in Angus more than anywhere else this year, and would have to draw you away in the cup too! A bit of sympathy, please.
  10. Stranraer -vs- Dumbarton

This route is ok for cars but very narrow, and could be blocked if some of the HGV's decide to venture along it and get stuck. It's the route I'd take, over Newton Stewart but not much in it time-wise. An alternative is to use the replacement bus-service for the trains as the buses are being convoyed through the roadworks instead of having to use the diversion. Do check the timings though as they have been hit and miss at times. Welcome to life in the forgotten south-west corner of Scotland...we have these diversions for most episodes of resurfacing or major RTC's, and sometimes both the A77 and A75 can be closed. To lose the minimal train service too has been a blow. Just don't get ill while you're here!!
  11. Wow! So far we've played 2 out of 6 friendlies, tried out some triallists, the team have more or less all met each other...and the negativity has started already. How about giving them a chance (quarter of a season maybe) before expressing doubts? Or even wait till March, as that's when the season starts to pan out? We have this every year and, even after all the upheaval in January, we still were knocking at the door of the play-offs, out-performing our budget and our gate! It counts for nothing (for all the same reasons...too early to tell) but I've watched both friendlies. There is a fair bit of experience, a lot of passion, a lot of youth and energy...and Faz! I'm quite excited for what is going to be an interesting season ahead. I asked some of the players if they read P&B. They said no, it can be soul-destroying! Chin up, Beefy...it's not like you!
  12. Friendly? After we spoilt their party at Somerset?!
  13. ...and Max Currie and Lyle Avci. Great signings! http://www.stranraerfc.org/
  14. Probably not too much more than that, to be fair! Our gates at the end of the season were around half the gate away at Airdrie or Arbroath, and we're not going to get the Black and White £, or many visiting supporters from all the Angus clubs. It's going to be a lean season, unless we get a good Cup run, and will take similar inspirational work from Faz and Stuart and staff to achieve similar results to what they managed on a drastically reduced budget and team in the second half of the last season. It was a tough season to be a Stranraer supporter but it certainly wasn't boring, and the highs of the Golden Goose, the away win at Arbroath and the ensuing run of wins, and of course, spoiling Ayr's party at Somerset Park, were all the sweeter coming on the back of a tough winter. I'm happier the club are cutting their cloth accordingly, and would be delighted to achieve 5th place again, against all the odds, and maybe a scrape into the play-offs. On top of that, we are developing good young players that are attracting the interest of clubs like Motherwell, West Brom and Aberdeen. If anyone has ideas how to improve the gate, sell more season tickets, or attract more investment then we might be able to afford the strikers, the Willie Gibsons and Malkys that people expect us to sign, and push for promotion.
