  1. Bit of context called for here; we're now up to 134 pages in this thread which catalogues incidents of mass gun crime in a country that steadfastly refuses to do anything to ameliorate the problem it seems everybody in the world who doesn't live there can clearly see it has, instead offering meaningless "thoughts and prayers" for the victims and their families as verbal sticking plasters like they're going to help.
Then it happens again. And again. And no c**t ever does anything about it but dish out more facile "thoughts and prayers"
I doubt anyone's taking the piss out of anyone affected - the real target is the country and the people who live there who as long as they're allowed to own guns seem content for something similar to happen every couple of weeks ad infinitum.

    Oooooh ameliorate.
    Good point though.
  2. John McCain dead.  No fan of the guy but it’s a pity one of Trump’s main Republican critics is no longer around.

I always thought he was very respectful of Obama, especially at Republican events where people would be saying things like ‘he’s an arab’ or ‘i’m scared of Obama’ basically said in response, Obama is a decent man who I disagree with on a fundamental political level but nether the less is a good person. I’ve got a lot of respect for him taking the high ground.
  3. story from Mrs H this week - she works in the payroll dept of the local council
there's a bloke who applied for, was offered, and accepted a job as a classroom assistant at one of the local junior schools
he has insisted on "being able to work from home" as it does not say - specifically - in his contract of work that his work as a classroom assistant has to be done in a classroom - clearly this renders him completely fucking useless
they will end up paying him just to f**k off, rather than going through the courts to fight him, as it will work out cheaper; all the time his is "in situ" there is no budget to replace him (to employ two people to fill the same position) , so the school is short-handed, the kids suffer and the workload spread amongst fewer staff than it should be; the payout will come - obviously - straight out of the public purse, thus diminishing the available funds for other services
what a complete, utter and absolute fucking c**t of the highest order he must be - i have offered to simply go round and kick the b*****d up and down the road which has thus far, unfortunately, been declined...

Surely they created a job description? Mad.
  4. I’m not surprised but somewhat disappointed with the reaction to this especially on twitter. Im a seriously big supporter of Indy, but f**k me suggesting that this is an MI5 conspiracy etc is mental behaviour, maybe just sometimes people in public life can be c***s without tin foil hat stuff. Nicola Sturgeon is to be commended with her balanced statement. What we need is for the investigations to be allowed to reach a conclusion and act like adults who don’t throw toys out the pram everytime something they don’t like happens. Is it possible Alec is a sex pest, yes, is it possible hes been subject of a malicious complaint, yes, but how anyone can reach any conclusion just now is fucking mental behaviour.

  5. a new stand as well then, for just £2 million less than what Cardiff got the millennium stadium for at around the same time , when you see that compared to what we got it doesn't reflect that well on them.
Also separate national stadiums for fitbaw & rugby? seems silly nowadays , unlike club grounds these will sit empty most of the time , why not have one for both and have it in use more often , share the costs etc

Great idea, bring rugby to Glasgow.
  6. Hugely favours the rural voter though, here as well as the US, who for some reason tend to be right wing nutjobs.

We do a relatively ok job with council boundaries though so if it was along those lines i’d be alright with that, less chance for gerrymandering etc. Theres no way to really reflect the electorate other than PR and if that’s the case what do you do? Appoint a PR candidate to a constituency or region? Its a difficult one to get entirely spot on.
  7. You have missed the problem with the US Senate where Alaska gets the same number of Senators as California.

Yes but in terms of electoral college votes and congressional districts it has significantly less. This is the balance of it, give every state (in the US)/county(uk) the same number of senators and continue to base the main larger house on population as is done in the commons/house of representatives. Pretty basic stuff but ensures places like London dont just overrule everywhere because of population density, which imo is only one factor in political representation.
  8. The glory days of the Liberal party are well in the past, well over 100 years ago and now they survive on west country, north scotland and protest votes.
What does annoy me is that they have only 12 MP'S and yet 98 peer's in that unelected archaic House of Lords, the UK must be the only country in the world that has a second voting house populated by political appointees, hereditary peers and bishops, a ridiculous state of affairs in every sense.
I did like Charlie Kennedy though, problem was for him personally was that he would never have been out of place in the Fluke on a Friday Karaoke night.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there re the Liberals.
The point about the house of Lords too, i think its a great idea to have a second chamber, but filling it with political donors, landed gentry and sky fairy botherers is unacceptable. Each constituency should elect an MP and a member of the second chamber, maybe a senator or whatever it should be titled. It should be encouraged that the candidate for this seat is someone say over the age of 45 with experience in business, academia, legal profession etc but not compulsory (I believe the academia/legal aspect would be beneficial for scrutiny of legislation) as perhaps they could instruct the services of these professions for advice etc also. Regardless there is scope for an effective second chamber which in line with the numbers in the Commons could be a good thing.
  9. Today Glasgow University announced a way to give instant charging to vehicles, essentially revolutionising the way vehicles can be fuelled with amazing potential. Wee snippet at the bottom, research funded by the European Research Council, money from the EU has funded what has potential to be one of the most important technological breakthroughs in transport in decades. On the other hand, blue passports.

  10. As much as Selkirk imo should have made some type of contact with Kelty, out of good manners, kelty should have kept this   in house and not went public, but then they always seem to want to give you the far end of a fart

So they shouldnt explain what happened to the people spending thousands on hospitality (or most importantly folks considering booking it for later on in the season) or their fans who come week in/out? If the LL is keen to attract people every week as an alternative to spfl clubs then when someone makes an arse of it the clubs have to distance themselves from farce or suffer guilt by association.
  11. That's a bit shitty from Kelty to release that. 100% contradiction and playing the victim here.

Is it hell, its directly hurting kelty to a sum of several thousand pounds, they are well within their rights to assure their support and sponsors that they did everything they could to fulfil the fixture as it might be the difference between these sponsors bothering to rebook. I trust the entire content of the statement is accurate? If so then whats the issue?
  12. this. i mind setting the ancient VCR i had in my bedroom to record Emmanuele. a whole weeks worth of chugging guaranteed!

My dad borrowed my 3d glasses for the pish poor live tv emmanuel in 3d.
