You wouldn’t live in Miami? A family member stays in south beach and it is fantastic

Didnt feel safe in Miami, low murder rate but rated more unsafe than New York etc. plus Miami beach etc, very tacky, $25 to park your car just to walk about. The hurricanes and flood risk just aint worth it, i know the sunshine etc is a big draw but its not for me. Id maybe look at West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale/jupiter if i was a multi millionaire but if i was moving anywhere in Florida id look at Winter Park or Winter Garden near Orlando. Tbh if money was no object (and it would have to be for me to move to the states) id hypothetically have a house in the Outskirts of Nashville, incredible city.

We have neighbours from the US (renting, she is doing a Masters degree here) and their son just applied to be a Chicago cop.

My neighbour said even he was a bit surprised at just how good the money was.

I suppose there are other things to consider in the USA though, top line cash is fantastic, and if you have health care it feels golden when you are working.

But health care once you retire? No sure how that works, I do know that pay as you go is prohibitively expensive.

Also (again, the neighbours chat) the cost of University Education if you have kids is stratospheric, thats why there are so many yanks here (and in Glasgow where my son is studying) and happy to pay for it.

I think some jobs or unions allow you to continue to be attached to healthcare plans even after you retire though, mate who’s a contractor electrician for Ford through a union has healthcare til he dies basically, which is good cos as much as i love him hes aint a healthy guy. I think if you go to a state college then tuition isnt as wild as others. But agree our tuition is a steal for foreign students, in Glasgow there’s very little goes back into the local economy from this.
Yeh chicago cops get paid a fortune (actually one of the few that would hire with a green card and not citizenship), but tbf they have it hard. The townships in New York state near to the city on long island etc where they are raking in over $250k a year easily.
But even engineering jobs, electricians etc make a fcuking fortune. When you consider the tories are talking about a delay and decrease in the UK state pension despite paying record levels of taxation and actually nothing getting any better you have to wonder where the money is going? Something isnt right.

A few months ago, this advert got a lot of attention. It’s for staff at a car wash in Texas.

An assistant general manager of a car wash paid about the same as an NHS consultant. I mean, I’m sure those salaries might not be typical for working in a car wash in the US but damn.

I think a manager at In-n-out burger also gets a six figure salary too. There are jobbing police officers in New York state making more than a very high ranking police officer here makes (circa £110k for a cop in New York and circa £85k for a Chief Superintendent/110k for assistant chief constable). Doctors make about 3/4 times the money too.

This is something I've been looking into quite a lot recently, as we're currently in the process of getting me a green card so we can move to my wife's hometown. The cost of living, particularly in major cities, is frighteningly high, but for us it looks like moving over and doing the same jobs at the same level of experience we'd end up with a lot more disposable income than we do in the UK. The flip side is that means retirement/saving a deposit for a home is more or less starting again for us in our early 30s, which is a bit of a worry.

The difference in purchasing power has been quite eye opening when her relatives have visited here or we've been over there. Obviously there's a lot more to standard of living, much of which (cost of healthcare and access to public transport being big ones) are poorer there. As those things are getting worse and worse in the UK, as you point out, it doesn't feel like as much of an issue as it maybe would have been previously.

What city you talking? There are some in the states id happily live in, Nashville, Savannah, Austin, San Clemente or Utah as a whole. But some like Miami, Tampa, DC, San Diego, Memphis, Houston, Atlanta and St Louis etc you couldnt pay me enough to live in.

Ach it's fine. Personally I have mixed feelings about these sort of things as they can tend to be a bit self indulgent (me, me, me) but find it hard to knock the guys who take time to do them. If nothing else, this one was topical.

That was definitely how it came across. PG and Dak had a good product that came across a lot better. The talking to a camera whilst driving on a motor way bothered me. Dont think the guy maybe gets that when Corden did it he wasnt actually driving?

Because the article specifically says it won't be funded with public money. Glasgow makes a lot of money from hosting events and conferences, they support a lot of jobs. If the CGF and commercial income cover the cost then there's only upside.

Aye im sure there wont be a single penny of public money. These games tend to never go over budget and the security contracts never evaporate at the last minute leading to tens of thousands of police hours being used to fill in. They dont even have housing for athletes.
Are they going to pay the nhs overtime bills too for having more doctors and nursing staff due to increased demand? Will they be covering the police mutual aid bill? Will they be paying the money glasgow has to spend to make its streets useable for a marathon or cycle race? From ‘£126million’? Aye right.

  6. How can a city that cuts 26 million from its social services budget, cant empty the bins and hasnt enough hospital beds for the people who live there host a major sporting event? Ffs they cant even fix the potholes.
Given the reliance last time on police officers being used to lower the security budget (ie standing at fence lines) i cant see how it works with the massively reduced numbers. This is going to be a farce.

  7. I suffer quite badly from imposter syndrome (please no impersonator jokes) too, i think it stems from caring about what you do. I cant say it gets easier but as you go through your career you’ll get moves, promotions or develop evidence that helps the idea of believing in yourself/abilities a little bit. Sometimes it can be a good thing strangely, i know my limitations and dont worry about asking for help.

I'm lucky enough to have done the Masters trip with my dad and brother.  We were there on the Thursday from dawn till dusk; it was the best spectator experience I have ever had at any sporting event, by a long way.  I think all the silly rules work well when you are actually there, especially no cameras (except on practice days - I think they had to be real cameras?), and it's not hugely crowded either because the numbers are very controlled. When you compare the atmosphere at Augusta to, say, the Open last year at Liverpool or most US Opens where half the crowd is annoyingly p1shed and you have folk shouting "mashed potato" or whatever, there is a lot to be said for the quieter experience.  Even the catering is brilliant and certainly highlights what utter rip-off merchants the R&A are.  Still have my pile of Masters plastic cups and green folding chair kicking around somewhere.

We flew into Charlotte NC, stayed at Pinehurst for a couple of nights and played #2 (badly) and Pine Needles, then moved base to Columbia SC which was quite a nice town (about 1h 15 drive to the Masters).  Not only is Augusta the town a dump (mainly a featureless, dusty long main strip with crappy restaurants and petrol stations) but ofc you won't find accomodation there in Masters week except at very silly prices.  You may know this already but you can usually get tix on the streets just over a mile (or whatever the exclusion zone limit is) from the gates of the course.

Tobacco Road does look fantastic - maybe next time...

What did you think of playing number 2? Did you get a caddy for it? I think its probably one of the only places in the world id splurge.

Every single thing ive ever read about getting to the masters and the spectator experience is overwhelmingly positive. I think if food and drinks were priced fairly for customers people would spend more. If i get to go im certainly gonna try a wee bit of most things and ill be honest i plan to spend a fucking fortune on merch. We’re going to the open practice on monday of the open week just to let my wee boy see what its all about etc, i remember my last experience it cost a fortune. What do you pay off the guys on the strip for tickets? Id be really worried id get bumped.

Brilliant wee city highly recommend it .Harbour Town  isn't that far away from there ( next event after the masters,) if you fancy a round there and also Sawgrass

I love the look of harbourtown, but shes daft on One Tree Hill etc and has this whole Carolina's roadtrip idea in her head, perfectly ties in with those two courses (TR is my absolute must play thats remotely affordable and id stretch to a splurge for pinehurst 2&4).  If i could get a tournament or even practice day at the masters to end that off id die a happy man.

Aye they pretty much have the final say on everything including how much coverage is shown. Then there’s the nonsense like no cameras, no running and calling the fans “patrons”. Get in the bin

I dislike the political views most of these auld duffers have, but i like the no cameras rule, i go to a lot of concerts and stuff and really dislike the phones out all the time, in America going to concerts and sporting events is a very trying experience, they simply cannot behave like normal people, so maybe they feel the need to go to this extreme. Im all for the no running and no cameras.

It is ,the actual course is about 20 mins outside of town,on the bright side because of the security and the town being a dump I ended up discovering Savannah as I was on a road trip from New Orleans to Orlando via Atalanta so apart from the cities I was just staying in random towns for overnighters but Savannah was tremendous ended up 3 days there during a German beer festival that they have every year

Was going to say my wife and I were talking about doing a couple of trips over the years we both turn 40, she wants to go back to Alaska and I mentioned Augusta etc she really fancies going, if i could tie it in with a game at Tobacco road and maybe pinehurst i totally would but id try and stay maybe an hour or two outside of Augusta because ive heard its pretty shitty. How did you like Savannah?

Not going to lie, if entering the junior cup was made mandatory it would be funny as f**k purely for the tantrums on here.

Not prayer of it actually happening and neither should there be.

We’re raffling off places in the team for a charity match, id have us do the same for the junior cup if it was made mandatory, there’d be some excellent tantrums from the folks giving us grief.

Honestly though, the SNP have squandered our chance, they have absolutely fucked it and really i think there are some of the MP’s sitting in Westminster actually happy about that.

Where did I say that? I said it's a repeating theme. The moan has been made umpteen times and has lost its effect. You were coming across as a moan, one has a duty to tell you so and hold a mirror up.

    And ignoring is for wimps.

I’ve not got you on ignore, besides yer talbot shite i actually like you. I was only explaining why there are in particular a lot of clydebank fans (amongst others) who are against this. It was only repeated because there are about 10 folks asking similar things or makjng it out that they’re the first person to ask.

One thing that screams "pathetic child-like inability to deal with difference of opinion" more than red dots is the ignore function.

Maybe the echo chamber of the Bankies forum is the best place for some of you?

Im happy to have a difference of opinion, yer man from Milan was the one giving it ‘i dont want to read…’. If he doesnt want to read or is bored of reading its really not my responsibility to post something he wants to read.

Of course I care. Your club got what they wanted, they got out of the junior set up. It's just been unfortunate that the other big lads came too and essentially spoiled your party. The only thing wrong with the pyramid for me is that champions have to play in a play off rather than get straight promotion. Well, that and the B teams stink.

From the outside it looks like there are two options available to Clydebank. Win the league or apply to the SoS.

Oh and smashing out the same tired response telling clubs to eff off back to the juniors is hardly discussing it.

We’ll need to agree to disagree. There is an ignore function btw.

Change the record man. There will be no clubs who want to go back, fans maybe but not clubs.

Surely you can see how this thread looks. Started by a bankie with plenty of other bankies coming out with the trope you just have. It's boring now.

Well maybe because Talbot didnt have people within the sjfa conspiring to have them kicked out the league for having the audacity to want to get licensed? Agree that not every fan base has the negative opinion of it, but we do, and ill be honest i worry that if the sjfa stealth takeover happens then that ill feeling will return. These other fan groups might not care and thats fine, but we care, so if you dont then i mean just dont come on the thread where it’s being discussed?

I do have sympathy for the clubs who were left with no option but to join the new west league and are not satisfied with the new setup. Again they do appear to have no option on to them being honest.

What is annoying, is the as yet unsubstantiated reports of unnamed and unknown members potentially working clandestinely to resurrect a previous association.

No one forced any club to join any new west league. If they are dissatisfied with the current set up they should start their junior league back up.

If a post on here is reported as a hate crime will @Div and the mods have to supply Johnny Law with the poster's email address and IP ?

That was already the case anyway. A party holding information which can assist authorities identify a person who has committed a crime has a legal responsibility to comply with a lawful request made under the Data Protection Act or via a RIPSA/RIPA application. There isnt any new power or ability with this or any legislation which has been brought in.

We were forced to play Benburb in October to use a Saturday. No need as both clubs were up on games and Bens had hospitality booked for original date. Game later in April - Arthurlie - brought forward to March due to Junior semis. If you were 4 weeks idle before playing final 2 league games, you'd not be pleased. He needs to do better

Bill you’ll need to stop coming on here and being all reasonable.

Would that be Mr bamford who on a few occasions has got Clydebank games moved to odd kick off times so he can get wined and dined at Scotland games at hampden?

All the beith fans would want kick offs moved if it was team gb would they not?
Bankies have massive numbers of tartan army members in the support, given football at this level should be run for the fans then surely supporting the national team is a good thing? If both clubs agree then no issue.

Exactly. The SJC is an attractive cup to play in as it is steeped in history. Of course, it has been diminished due to many clubs not taking part but it was an integral part of the club/fan experience of Junior football for over a century. It's optional but those who opt out (or don't opt in) want to be petty by accusing those who do of being "dinosaurs" or some such. Just let them play.

Let them play in the junior cup, whats backwards about it is the wosl panders to another competing associations cup. Its a backdoors takeover to let the dinosaurs get what they wanted in the first instance. Hopefully this debacle pushes more sensible football administrators to press for a Lowland League 2.
