Doc season could be over. Been excellent when he plays but this injury record is a worry if we go up to premiership.

He's a really good player, evidenced by our points gained with / without him in the team, so he'll clearly be missed.

He hurt his back doing the strenuous task of putting a Morton corner behind for another corner on Friday. His back seems to cause him a lot grief. Was surprised he managed to continue on Friday - maybe he got by on adrenaline?

Shame, cause he's very decent, but would I be right in thinking, come the end of the season, he'll have missed more games than he's played? However good he is, a team with the finances of Dundee United, can't really afford a player to be as absent as often as that. May have to, reluctantly, look to offload in the summer?

Feels churlish to complain after a 4-0 win but that really should have been double figures.

Pleased for Greive for his contribution and nice to see Watt and Fotheringham back amongst the goals. Another solid performance from Thomson and good to be able to rest Moult, Docherty and Sibbald for all/most of the second half.

Thought Middleton did okay for the most part and put some decent balls into the box. Could and should have had at least a couple of goals though. Midfield of Tillson and Grimshaw for the last 20 minutes is quite a thing.  Not in a good way.

    Agreed on all of that.

Second half subs did weaken us, but was sensible decisions from Goodwin.

Of the two you mention Tillson, who certainly isn't a world beater, was a lot better than his compatriot.

  3. Possibly been covered already in the thread ..... I had a quick look and reckon at this stage no tickets have been made available for the top tier of the South stand for any of these five games?? Am I right in thinking that?

Bit strapped for cash just now so not looking buy tickets right now, but hoping they'll release South stand top tickets nearer the time (as they did for Norway game).

  4. Fortheringham and Newman in Scotland u21 squad, so (will probably) miss the ICT game on 23rd.

Could a badly timed Walton injury lead to a re-appearance of 'you-know-who'?

Kai would be a miss too, although not been firing on all cylinders lately.

(Side note, could we ask for a postponement at all?)

We're at the stage where questions do have to be asked about Jim Goodwin, and he needs to reflect on his own tactical performance. I had heard - admittedly second hand - that the long and the short of his tactical instructions is "get it wide and cross it" (and yet we seem to rarely manage that at the moment).

As much as we all want products of our youth system to do well, Meekison and Mochrie looked absolutely miles off it last night. In part that's down to a lack of game time, but also it's down to team selection, tactics and their own drive and determination (you'd think Miller Thomson had played dozens of games for us compared to them). I think we might have got away with picking one of them, but not both. Instead, both now would be nowhere near the starting XI again for the remainder of the season.

It's not fair to blame them specifically though; the whole team - with the exception of Thomson and maybe the centre backs, although I don't know if one of them cost us the first goal - played like they were in a training game. They sauntered around like it was a foregone conclusion that we'd win somehow. Chief culprits for this were Watt and Middleton.

Middleton in particular just hides, yet he stayed on for the entire 90 mins.

I don't think we have the money - or a chairman who cares enough - to sack Goodwin, so we just have to hope Raith drop more points than us.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Was really disappointed in Meekison and Mochrie. Meekison looked a real prospect under Courts, but that was a couple of years ago now and he's done very little since (granted had injuries) and (correct me if I'm wrong) is still to register a goal. Maybe it's the level of coaching he's had right enough.

  6. Anyone know / care to guess if our match v Raith at Tannadice will be moved to the Friday night? I know there's limitations on how many matches the BBC can show and each team has to be shown at home a certain amount of times. Also Scotland are playing on the Friday night I believe.

But obviously it's an attractive fixture so you'd think there would be a fair chance of it getting moved.

(My Easter holiday plans hinge on when the game is, hence the query)

Freeman has joined St Patrick’s in Ireland on a permanent deal.

I know Grimshaw had been playing (badly) at RB but he's considered primarily a midfield I believe. Doesn't this leave us without a right back in the first team squad?

Wish Freeman well - a move will probably do him good. Personally I think there's little to pick between him and Grimshaw

  8. There seems to be a bit of disparity between our home form and our away from, and whilst it's not the complete answer I can't help but think that we the fans are part of the issue. Tannadice is either like a fucking morgue, or seething cesspit of ire towards our own players. It must get through to the players and have some kind of impact. I overheard someone, after a series of simple sideway passes at the back, say "it's like they're scared to make a mistake" - They most probably are.

It was interesting to hear the Falkirk fan on the radio yesterday crediting their 'Ultras' with a hand in their successful season. If Tannadice was a somewhat happier place to play your football, I still think Liam Grimshaw would pass the ball back the way, but it would surely have some kind of positive impact.

Not sure if the Dom Thomas story has any truth in it, but if it were to, why on earth (wages aside) would he want to come here.

And that's not a football manager's responsibility - how, exactly?

Louis Moult and Tony Watt will be earning multiples more per week than O'Connor (promising but not regularly playing this season, and always good for a brain fart error without Baird partnering him) and Kirk Broadfoot (89, playing for a Lowland League side last season). Not exploiting that sufficiently to win a home league game is a failure of management.

A good manager - with comfortably the largest budget available to develop his team - should not even be relying on a couple of individual mismatches of quality to determine a game. That's not how you reliably win a league title over 36 games.

You're making the mistake of thinking because of the salaries they're on Moult and Watt are good players.

Neither of those are capable of scoring those three goals that Oakley did

Clearly wasn't fit enough! Shouldn't have been risked IMO.

Worrying McMann has picked up a knock too, could really do with not having to rely on Duffy to fill in for him.

    Agreed on both fronts.

Middleton being employed at LB was an interesting one. Was Duffy not on the bench today (possibly making room for MacLeod)

**Just seen Duffy was on the bench, so Middleton at LB all the more peculiar**
