Im genuinely not sure what you’re seeing, but Johnstone clearly swipes and makes contact with Silva’s knee before he goes down.

Any contact is minimal and happens after Silva is already going to ground. Certainly not enough to warrant a foul.

Also worth highlighting that Johnston clearly withdraws his foot in an attempt to avoid contact (he still does make contact despite that though).

Of course. The foul for our penalty and the one that disallowed Dessers goal were very similar. Both fouls.

Just because Johnstone got a touch on the ball doesn’t mean it’s not a foul if Silva is going to get the ball after his challenge.

Silva was never ever getting to that ball.

Why? Because he wasn't interested in getting to it. He was interested in simulating contact.

You know that and I know that. So let's call it for what it was. Pure deception on Silva's part.

If Beaton hadn't been so quick with the card for diving, and given a goal-kick, this discussion would not be happening and the incident would have been forgotten about.

Beaton was the ref at Firhill last weekend Jags v Fake Jags, which I attended. He booked ICT's Kerr for a perceived dive which was rescinded on appeal following a later second yellow that saw him red-carded.

I'll let you draw your own conclusion.

I’m not sure there can be many complaints about any decisions. Clear Goldson handball and foul in the build up to Dessers scoring.

Johnstone one also a foul. Got a touch on the ball but never really changed the direction of it in any meaningful way and caught Silva on his knee before he would’ve got to the byline.

    Jeezus. What a pathetic take.

Have you ever actually played any football? Even 5-a-sides?

A thought occurred watching that today - can you name a Portuguese footballer that ISN’T a cheating c**t?  Let’s say other than Eusebio.

Rui Manuel Costa, one of the finest midfield players ever to grace a football field.

Absolutely schooled Beckham and his pals from 0-2 down at Euro 2000.

No dives ever necessary in his toolkit.

I don't really like JJ Bull. I think anyone looking to justify Nathan Patterson's decision to try and make that pass isn't being realistic. It's a risk and you might not always get caught out, but eventually you will. We actually played a fair amount of similarly risky passes in our own box that  weren't punished so it's a balance between risk/reward - just looking at the picture it's a huge risk for such little reward.

I think he could have achieved the same by using either Gunn or even Hendry, both unmarked, rather than threading an eye of the needle pass to a marked Gilmour. Just a bad decision in my view.

Holy Moly. That nis a shocker and then some.

What the f**k was going Patterson's mind to even consider attempting that pass??

  6. A small crumb of positivity from tonight that hasn't been highlighted is that Liam Cooper looks a far steadier and assured option for the Euro 24 squad than John Souttar did last Friday.

Nathan Patterson sadly will need the Webb telescope to locate Everton's first team this season never mind the Euro 24 squad on the basis of that showing tonight.

Don't think we have played them this century!

Leichtenstein we played in 2010-11, famously winning 2-1 at Hampden with a goal in the 147th minute of added time by Stephen McManus, and 1-0 away through the wonderfully named Craig Mackail-Smith. It was during Craig Levein's tenure, so anyone would be forgiven for having erased those games from their cognitive hard-drive.

This is beginning to feel like when Thistle made it into the top six, then lost all their games and got relegated the next season.

Pedant alert - Thistle didn't lose all their top 6 games allyo.

They drew 2-2 at Tynecastle in the first game after the split.

The relegation the next season was without question a minter, though.

Aye I was thinking this too. My cousin thinks Patterson is a better player than Hickey, which I think is nonsense tbf, but I do think Hickey made the better decision regarding his move away from Scotland.

Patterson would be absolutely flying if he was in Serie A.

The only way Patterson sees Serie A is when he reads about it in the paper.

There's a reason he never displaced Tavernier, and there's a reason why he's behind Coleman and Godfrey at Everton.

Sadly, he's not yet found a club coach who can develop his skills into being a crack defender as well as an asset going forward. We all know he could be that Nathan Patterson with the proper level of nurturing. On Friday we saw a Nathan Patterson devoid of any confidence who is well out of his current depth.

At the risk of being ridiculed, Anthony Ralston is probably a better option at RB right now because he is steady and confident. Nathan Patterson is neither of those at the moment.

Matches v NI and Finland live on BBC. Been a while since a Scotland friendly was shown on council telly, outside the occasional England match.  Can count on one hand the Scotland matches shown for free in last 20 years

Surely heads will roll at the SFA for allowing this to happen.

Pedant alert. Your post got me thinking.

Off the top of my head, in recent times the three Euro 21 games, the Serbia play-off and both qualifiers v England for WC 2018 were on council telly. As for friendlies, the Hungary-Scotland game in March 2018 (1-0, Scott Brown, penalty missed by Charlie Mulgrew) was on council telly. Fellow posters may be able to confirm any other rare Scotland appearances on council channels.

You can still use twitter for free, and put Musk on block which annoys the f**k out of him. Just saying...

Many of us are not interested in using Twitter, Facebook or any other of that shite, so you can get that attitude fired right into the bin Welshbairn. The SFA have a duty to keep the membership informed, and frankly their communications to their clients have been lacking for quite a while now. The lack of attention to detail is becoming a more regular feature (including getting the date of the Netherlands game totally wrong last Friday).

It would not surprise me if they are delegating these responsibilities to younger people who have no significant record in effective customer communication. The evidence certainly points in that direction.

Whoever is in charge of the communication strategy, and on signing off on what is sent to the membership needs their backside kicked up and down Carmunnock Road. The information we are receiving at the moment does not fully meet the service we pay for.

And that is not acceptable under any serious analysis.

Again, I think this is a bad take.

If the situation is that with 79 minutes on the clock, you need a score to win the match, and you build an attack to the point where one of your players crosses the line and grounds the ball, then you have, very literally done what it required of you to win the match. That an utterly wild sequence of events from the referees denied you that doesn't necessitate this hindsight "should have/could have" nonsense. There's no should or could. We did, and were somehow denied.

With every respect to you Bairnardo, you've missed the point of my post.

Inability of an Irishman to see the bottom of the ball for the grass cost us the victory versus France.

That decision/non-decision would likely never have been an issue had the penalty decisions been better managed, so I'm not accepting that decision/non-decision as an excuse.

Similar thing happened in the Ireland v Wales game today when it was likely that Wales scored a second try at 17-7, but there was no angle that conclusively proved the ball had been grounded.

Looks like Finn Russell has been told to take every opportunity to score points

    Thank f**k for that.

Not taking points on offer cost us the victory v France.

  15. What is this obsession that Finn Russell has for gambling for 7 points when 3 points are being offered on a plate?

The appropriate time to gamble on 7 is in the last quarter of the game if you are behind.

It's certainly not when you are in the first half with a free opportunity to add to your lead. Those three points before half time were a criminally wasted gift.

That decision came back to bite us.

  16. Well done to the Thistle lassies, reaching the final is a fantastic achievement for a part-time club.

Speaks volumes for Brian Graham's coaching and motivational skills too.

As things stand, the final is due to be played on Saturday 23rd March at the same time as the Jags mens team is playing at Arbroath. Hopefully common sense might prevail and the final is moved 24 hours to Sunday 24th March, otherwise BBG will have to earn himself another red card v Morton on the 16th to be able to lead the ladies out on the 23rd.

I couldn’t tell you. He may have spat at them, and as I said before, you expect him to get a ban if he has and can have no complaints about it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just think that video I’d seen that I posted looked as though he spat sideways rather than upwards where the fans would be sitting which would’ve been my only thoughts as to why it hasn’t been plastered in the media. I could be wrong though.

It’ll come out in the wash

I see what you did there - well done!!

    🤣👍

  18. 17 minutes ago, AJF said:

You don’t think the video I posted clearly shows him spitting sideways rather than upwards?

Again, no complaints if he has indeed spat on a Celtic fan, I just think it seems like there is reasonable doubt as to where he is spitting. Add in the fact there seems to be no reaction from any Celtic official.

Jesus Christ man, get a grip. You're failing miserably in your attempts to defend the indefensible.

Why is he even spitting at all at that moment, when he's had every opportunity to clear his mouth in the long walk beforehand?

Or was he seriously incapable of holding it in until he got to the dressing room?

  19. The ability of the Sevco loyal on here to deflect from the fact that they lost today's game for any reason other than because their players are utterly substandard in comparison is astonishing to behold.

You have Dessers as your point of attack with McAusland and Cantwell in support.

They have Kyogo with Maeda and Palma in support.

There's a reason a frankly rank Celtic overcame you today - they still have better players in most positions than anyone you have available.

That's the root of it, and convincing yourselves that people like Tavernier and Goldson are some kind of talismen for your future is delusional in the extreme.
